  1. I agree with an earlier poster--the 4 story setback should be on the mall side to fit with the surroundings. Otherwise I don't mind this so much.

To be fair they played mostly stadiums in Europe, which of course is an entirely different animal. Only a handful of big market shows here.
  3. Sounds like fairly diluted journalism to me. I'm sure they are cranking out the content.
  4. Or, the story was written and run by some sort of freelance police-scanner monitoring service. Who is Northeast Ohio Media Group, as depicted in the byline?
  5. UPDATE: Man fatally shot on Cleveland's West Side identified Adam Ferrise, Northeast Ohio Media Group By Adam Ferrise, Northeast Ohio Media Group CLEVELAND, Ohio— Police are investigating the suspected fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man on the city's West Side. Police said the man was shot in the abdomen at about 8 p.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of West 112th Street. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/11/man_19_fatally_shot_on_clevela.html
  6. I wonder if Constantino's was in play for the new location at all? I'd love to see their current location replaced with a more upscale version.

When I lived there 15 years ago it was almost exclusively word-of-mouth or signs in the front window. And even then, you often needed a word-of-mouth reference from a neighborhood guy. No landlord there wanted to field calls from the surrounding areas. But times have probably changed somewhat.

Agreed, but $40 million for a bike path with an extensive ramp system to make up for the elevation changes was a cost that couldn't be compensated. Instead, they installed the Lorain-Carnegie cyclepath, which is a better alternative as it actually connects to populated centers and is just as a direct route as the proposed ramp system would have been for the Innerbelt Bridge. I think the study was that the Lorain-Carnegie - Abbey route only added 20 seconds to the trip. My only disappointment was that a dedicated cyclepath wasn't put on Abbey - it's just bike lanes. I still feel that $40 million figure comes from the same foggy math of RTA Joe C's estimates of per-mile rail construction costs. How can it cost $40 million to ad an 8' extension and some fencing on the west facade of the bridge? $40 million sounds like a good number from a bunch of ODOT guys trying to figure out how to keep money out of Cleveland in in sound walls....
  9. Couldn't they install awning windows, like they have at the Chesterfield? They open just enough to let in some fresh air.
  10. That's going to be a great location. I wish the windows opened!
  11. The problem in Cleveland is not always start up funding. We need to look at this long-term. My fear is they build it, then the economy nose dives and it's a shuttered eyesore after 10 years. I'm thinking of the Flats bridge lighting and how that didn't last very long. Maybe I'm off-base there, but lighting bridges seems to be a far-less daunting task than maintaining an active aerial tram system.

Too bad there is no pedestrian/bike path on there permanently. Would have made a nice feature for Tremont commuters.
  13. Nice work! Would still love to see 10 stories of luxury condos on top! :)
  14. I thought Pittsburgh considered the Westin to be it's Convention Center hotel? I'm not sure if it's attached, but it's directly across the street. Attaching it wouldn't take much. And it has to be 500+ rooms?
  15. If you're right Dean great news. And in regards to residential/retail, this is where our politicians can do some good. Maybe the owners don't want to do it, but if given the opportunity with the financing working for them, maybe they would change their minds.
  16. Carolina, New England and Arizona?

  18. Things getting rough in KJP's hood! Clifton Boulevard pharmacy robbed by a man with a short revolver: Pick of the Blotter LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- A man with a silver or black short revolver robbed a Clifton Boulevard pharmacy in the early morning hours on Monday, police said. http://www.cleveland.com/lakewood/index.ssf/2013/10/clifton_boulevard_pharmacy_rob.html
  19. I saw the suburban trend happening since 9/11 through the 2008 Financial crisis. People want to stay closer to home during times of strife. This coincides with the rise of places like Downtown Willoughby and Lakewood as entertainment destinations.

By the book it appears Jim Joyce got the call right, but then again, the runner fell back down and pushed off the back of the 3rd baseman, who had just made a play on the ball. Since he was not "in possession" of the ball I guess technically the call was right. But at the end of the day, it should have went to inning 10. The Cardinals may have still won, but MLB would save itself the controversy. As I saw a friend post on Facebook last night, if MLB needs to wonder why they get beat in the ratings by a meaningless Monday night game (Vikings-Giants), here is a reason. Americans like clear cut and final decisions. This is one that was purely the judgement of the ump that no replay could even help.

  22. It's not undeveloped. It is a revenue-producing parking lot, no? If the State Constitution dictated you had to pay $85 million for something with the chance to recoup HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS from a slightly different site, wouldn't you plunk down the $85 million just to get it done? I think everyone is too hung up on that. Gilbert had to fork over the $85 million to get it going. He will recoup that eventually from the "temporary" site, even if he keeps the $85 million parking lot going.

What about the Red Sox Nation?????? There are legions of frat boys wearing the hat!
  24. Why would you want to? Other than weather, that is. Unless things have changed dramatically, it's easier at E. 34th. Well, yes, weather is a factor. And prestige. It is Cleveland's former Union Terminal. The center of it all.
  25. I still don't understand the inability to transfer from Green/Blue to Red or vice versa at Tower City. Someone mentioned it was for historical reasons? Couldn't this be solved with a walkway between the two platform lobbies?
