I don't disagree--except that the powers that be and investors will probably try to keep it separate, just like when they moved up the hill from the east bank back in the day. There is a value to them in "distinguishing" themselves from a less-than-desirable crowd.

I travel nationally and internationally and Lebron is #1 on my list, ahead of the weather. Thinking more about what people asking me about Cleveland when traveling: 1. LeBron James "The Decision" 2. "How are the Flats?" (boy if they only knew).... 3. Weather, snow etc.... 4. Drew Carey.

6-7 months of WHAT revenue? Here's some facts: 1. The convention business is dying and few conventions use stadium space. 2. In the Northern Hemisphere, the few remaining musical acts who can sell stadiums tour these venues in the SUMMER, because many stadiums DO NOT have roofs. Take a look at the website calendar of events for Ford Field in Detroit or Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Those are the kinds of events and the volume of events we might attract here. Question is, how many events and what size/revenue that are in addition to football plus a concert or two are needed to justify a roof? Exactly--if you look at their calendars, they are small functions, and many do not necessarily even use the seating bowl and field space. The Browns Stadium already does a considerable rentals business in their restaurant spaces on off nights. So the net gain would be negligible. Combine this with the fact that the stadium is not directly attached to the convention center, and there are two competitive venues right next door (GLSC and RRHOF), and suddenly the additional cost of construction and upkeep are not worth the investment.

Great news! Hopefully something good will follow for the 117th/Clifton site plan!

Detroit is a bad comparison for a Super Bowl because: A. The metro is much bigger than Cleveland with more overall hotel rooms, bigger TV market, etc etc. B. The American auto industry is based there. They buy a lot of ads. Especially during NFL games. And especially on Super Bowl telecasts. Don't discount that in the selection process. If you remember Detroit in 1984 (I think) was the last northern Superbowl for quite a few years after the game in the old Silverdome. The weather caused a traffic nightmare and the NFL stayed away from the north for a couple decades!

This was debated thoroughly upthread, but perhaps most of it has disappeared. The stadium as it stands is definitely a waste. But adding a dome will only add to it. The $200 million isn't worth the couple of events we might get to justify it. Not when this town needs more convention hotel rooms, etc.

Seats in the gaps! Yes!~ Dome? Heck no! Put the money into the convention center hotel and more residential downtown.

I am an ex-smoker myself. It astounds me how many smokers do not consider butts litter. I was always very conscientious of butts and disposed of them accordingly, including keeping an empty soda can in my car for disposal while driving (it drives me nuts when people just throw their butts out on the street).

I liked them too--but they look tacky with the regular batting helmets!

I was driving by this morning and saw uniformed park employees walking around with clipboards pointing at things (that's gotta be good!). This is a big step forward from the state employees, who I seldom saw!

The biz-jet quotient was very high today at BKL. Anyone know what was going on in town? Maybe Bynum and friends? Also nice to see the Air Canada A320 there, as well as a US Coast Guard G5!

Thirty people. Not all of whom are downtown. Many of whom can Cough cough, Eaton, cough cough Somewhat different from an office of thirty people. Progressive is more like a small continent, and Eaton seems to be going for the same thing. But in terms of attracting and retaining hot young prospects, I see KJPs point here. I wonder how many of Progressive's young employees would jump to a downtown office if given the chance?

That is a great photo--it looks as though they are narrowing the channel and adding a new retaining wall? Or was that the old location? I am new to this developement so wasn't sure of the details.

ESPN News was already showing photo mash ups of Lebron and Bynum in Cleveland this morning. Bynum hasn't signed anywhere and they already have LeBron moving home to join him (not that I would mind).

Just drove by Edgewater a minute ago and it was looking freaking AMAZING. This is the greatest thing that's happened to Cleveland since the '95 Tribe!
