  1. We all better start writing our elected officials then. I fear the worst!
  2. I did and incorporated my findings into my article I wrote last September. Did you see my article? I did and still don't believe those events, save for something like the NCAA championships, are actually using the stadium in a fashion that would warrant spending the millions and millions of dollars on adding a roof. Much of it is convention business fluffing--they quote 35,000 in attendance, but it's over 7 days. Note also they have a direct connection to the convention facility, which is crucial for using the stadium as a sellable space with "breakout rooms" for attendees. We would not have a direct connection. They also benefit, as I have pointed out in other threads, from being the state capitol. Many of the events they attract are the "State Association of X, Y or Z" These would always naturally gravitate towards Columbus. I'm not trying to be a negative here, but based on my experience in the convention business this is not something Cleveland should do.
  3. I disagree. Check out their calendar. http://www.lucasoilstadium.com/upcoming-events.aspx It's not worth the investment, especially at the expense of Browns football indoors. When you view the calendar, consider that the vast majority of the events are using restaurant spaces and function rooms for their show, not the actual stadium field itself. CBS Stadium is already very active as a venue for both corporate and charitable events. If you drive the Shoreway at night you'll often see the events in full swing. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/private-events/index.html
  4. Without a guarantee of a Superbowl, (as Detroit was granted) I cannot see a dome ever recouping the cost of construction, even with naming rights. There just aren't enough stadium scale events to go around. And even if you built it for a marquee event, we would face the problem of hotel room shortages as discussed in many other threads here.
  5. Wasn't sure if this would be the most appropriate thread, but for our aviation buffs check out this website on the 787. http://www.newairplane.com/787/dreampass/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Post&utm_campaign=DreamPass
  6. Does anyone actually know any residents out there? I just wonder what it's like to give your friends directions to your place: "Yeah like just park behind the Cheesecake Factory so you don't have to pay a meter then I'm across the street, right above the Gap. Apartment 214. We'll totally have a great time!"
  7. Great news. Hopefully we'll get more on the 117th/Clifton development here soon.
  8. Same here. I don't think county employees crossing into their place of employment will hurt street traffic all that much. They will still head out on the sidewalk for coffee, lunch, and of course lots of smoke breaks!
  9. Ahh well, Burnham Plan be damned, we'll have to live with it for the next 30-40 years until the underused Convention center is deemed outmoded and a new one is built amidst controversy.
  10. I am not a fan due to the deviation from the mall's original sightlines and planning. But, with this being said I realize to keep the convention center there something had to be done. What is actually under that rise?
  11. Based on my travels, there are plenty of dissenters in Minneapolis on the subject of the skywalks. Many there feel it does affect downtown street traffic, especially for out-of-town visitors who are unfamiliar with the lay of the land. Just did a quick google and found lots on the subject, including this editorial from a few years back: http://www.minnpost.com/politics-policy/2007/11/urban-designers-minneapolis-should-dump-skyways
  12. Thats right, it is no longer there. C'mon. This is Cleveland we have plenty of vacant land to make this happen. Including near that intersection. There would have to be a way to fit it. Just think of the joy from all the casino patrons on their way to the innerbelt.

Hey Cleveland--what's everyone doing for internet access these days? I finally got rid of cable TV and just left my modem (using AppleTV, Roku and other internet devices for entertainment access). Watch local networks off an HD antenna (great for everything but Fox 8 and WOIO 19). My Time Warner cable modem started out under $40/month for the mid-level service, now it's pushing up around $50. Not horrendous given the amount I use it, yet I still like to shop around. Just wondering what everyone else in the city are doing for internet without access to U-verse, Fios and other forms of competition.
  14. I assume they will add windows on the eastern facade? Should be good views that way too!
  15. I have a solution: We all team up with Cimperman to convince this franchisee to move east on Lorain to a parcel at Ontario/Carnegie. On this site a "Rock N Roll" McDonalds is erected (like this original in Chicago: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_N_Roll_McDonald's). Here they can capitalize on downtown crowds with a partnership with the RHOF archives located nearby at CCC. Perhaps the "triangle parcel" there across from the Jake?
  16. I'm not a fan but respect them. They deserve this nod. They are one of a handful of legacy acts that sell tickets and records to newer generation fans.
  17. Fencing is up around the Malloys/Giant Eagle property and some demo equipment parked out back.
  18. I was just there last month and was blown away by the new development in "The Gulch". Still very "suburban trying to urban" in that Dallas sort of style, but yet impressive with all the condo hi-rises dotting the area.
  19. All the posts above are accurate, but most conventioneers aren't looking for an urban experience. Most of them live in the sprawl themselves and just want to have a good time in their three days away from the wife and kids. Vegas draws suspicion, but NashVegas is big on drinking and fun without the questioning later.
  20. NashVegas trying to live up to its name... I think they'll have a homerun when its said and done. Central location nationally, good level of accomodations, state capitol...it has all the ingredients.
  21. The most bizarre McDonald’s locations in the world (35 HQ Photos) Read more at http://thechive.com/2012/09/25/the-most-bizarre-mcdonalds-locations-in-the-world-35-hq-photos/#PltE3FfrMzWBcoLF.99 Ha the "colonial" Independence location made the list. Hardly cutting edge--but then again, for Independence it could have been much worse. A McDonalds is a gold mine. With the right pressure from the neighborhood leaders and politicians they will spend money to make it happen. If they are going to get it might as well make it a destination.

  23. President Obama decided to deploy another 50,000 troops to Afghanistan to fight that expensive war that Bush had botched. We were still fighting Bush's war in Iraq until one year ago. Those wars cost a lot of money. Income tax receipts to the federal treasury decreased and that added to the deficit. Millions of people were kept in their homes by unemployment insurance. Unemployment payments, Medicaid, and food stamps added to the deficit. The "prescription drug program" Bush launched was unfunded and added to the deficit. You Republicans like to act like none of that would have happened if your "MBA President" had still been running things for the last four years. If we had not been making support payments like unemployment insurance, families would not have been able to keep their homes and dumped them on the market or been foreclosed upon. The real estate market would have been in a deeper hole at a time when " banks weren't lending". The US GDP would have decreased annually instead of getting the modest growth that occurred. Something tells me that you have not been reading the same newspapers that I have. I will not engage in a political conversation on this thread. I am not a Republican or a Democrat and believe both parties are a mess and are owned by Wall Street and big business. Both groups continue to line Wall Street pockets and the banking groups. In my book, once you try and turn economics just into a political conversation you have already missed what is really going on. Amen Rage. The two parties continue their charade at the expense of this great nation. All the public rhetoric keeps us busy while they are sitting at bipartisan lobbyist meals at 5 star restaurants sharing cigars and celebrating their success.
  24. NFL does away with touchdowns and allows only field goals, thus making Phil Dawson the league MVP. ;)
  25. I may be asking for a little much (and I can't believe I'm tipping my hat to Dallas), but I'm a fan of the Uptown/West Village area there. One of these buildings would be perfect for the W117/th/Clifton Lot, and could easily incorporate the design of the church behind it. http://www.westvil.com/residences.html
