  1. As an aside, then I'll drop it, the racetrack has thrived there all along across from Randall Park. Look what it's done for the surrounding community! I'm sure a casino will reinvent the area....
  2. I can actually vouch for Buffalo--due to its size I think in some ways it's a LOT better off than Cleveland or Detroit.
  3. I personally like the flurry of buses and traffic on the square. Cleveland needs some "hustle and bustle!" Look above to the photos posted of the square in the day of streetcars. That's what we should all hope Cleveland returns to! Moving buses underground makes no sense unless it somehow helps them achieve better service. I don't see how Public Square hinders the operation of buses at all....
  4. Buffalo is a hidden gem. I especially like the fact that most of their "Millionare's Row" on Delaware Ave was saved. Most of the mansions are now headquarters for non profits, law offices, etc. A beautiful couple miles of city scenery!
  5. Give ODOT credit--their funding goals do well to make sure that new build homes near freeways have adequate sound protection. Have to please the constituency. Grrr.... :whip:
  6. Am I Cleveland.com negative?? Heck no! I do not work in the casino business directly, but do work in an allied field. The casino business has been suffering for years--and the expansion into every state in the union is just further segmenting the market for new gamblers and their wallets. So those of us who support the project, the construction, the architecture and it's contribution to Cleveland have every right to question the business model, the website and execution. This is not Cleveland.com negativity. It is reality in a city that is struggling to find itself again.
  7. At the risk of sounding negative (sorry MTS), this website seems amateurish. Check out "meet the general manager." It brings up his picture. Really?

What if we trick Mr Kasich and tell him it is not actually for pedestrians and bikes? We could tell him it is a white- only full-sized SUV lane?
  9. I share your concern Midwest--the gambling market has been in steady decline and it won't help when every major city in the region has a casino. But, Dan Gilbert is definitely no financial slouch. He must be confident after dropping the $85M for the additional property.
  10. I hope they have a good automated cleaning process! The design drawings look like a window washer's nightmare!

Sadly I don't think we'd get that lucky. If anything ODOT would direct funding would be put towards more concrete sound barrier walls in Medina.
  12. Have you read anything about our Casino, the idea is to design the casino to become an intergrated part of the street scape/urban fabric, not suck life off the street. Yeah I remember reading that about the MGM and Motor City in Detroit as well. Have you been?
  13. More great news for Clifton. I get the sense that local entrepreneurs are feeling the shift that will come when the enhancement program is finally underway. Clifton with medians, brick crosswalks and shiny new bus shelters will definitely return it to some former glory!
  14. I personally don't blame FCE on this one. The location makes a heck of a lot more sense for a casino than it did for a convention center! While not a fan of casinos, I do wish the best for Dan Gilberts enterprise and hope it helps more development downtown. Sadly I cannot envision the casino as Tower City's savior though--they are by nature designed to keep their customers inside the casino and not in the mall next door.
  15. So if anyone doubted the casino would be physically connected to Tower City, that kinda answers it. How could anyone doubt it would be connected? Forest City has thrown their weight behind multiple public/private projects--each one designed to be connected to Tower City as it's future savior!
  16. My only question is what do the RTA police use to verify the home address of a juvenile? I bet many of them ride without ID on them. And those that do, would the ID include their current home address? Are they going to rely on the honor system?
  17. If we are talking "showrooms" in the convention business lingo, you would not want windows. Unless you're going to throw a bunch of money into window treaments that block out the light. If this is the "showroom" where the medical devices will be permanently on display for sale, then perhaps windows would be in order....
  18. I don't compare our casino to East Coast ones, where trains are a way of life (and there are some might large parking structures at AC casinos like Borgata). I compare it to midwestern variants, like Detroit and Niagara Falls. Better have plenty of handicapped spaces!
  19. 1996 here 8shades...I'm REALLY not recognizing the place. Which is a good thing...
  20. Sadly I don't think the target demo for Gilbert's casino would set foot on a train. They want to park within 500' of the front door in a multi-story parking structure, where they can feel safe within the city....
  21. Whoa, 30,000? I mean, sure, I agree with your statement but that's a TON. 5,000 would be amazing. CSU only has 17,000 students. You have to factor in those ones that never graduate, but also never leave.... ;) Wishful thinking perhaps, but the concept would definitely change this town. If you look at any larger market with a residential campus in it's core there is definitely a different energy. It also helps sell the city to the graduates, who come out after four years of college wanting to keep their surroundings familiar. So yes, we'd take 5,000 for now....with the ultimate goal being something more.
  22. There is also contact info for public comment on the ODOT TRAC website: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/TRAC/Pages/Default.aspx I will start writing today. As I look at the list of projects I fear Clifton will lose out to the countless requests for third lanes and interchanges in Franklin County that I see on the list!
  23. Uh oh....TRAC funds. Should we be worried that ODOT will see this as "wasteful spending?" Would it be helpful if area residents started emailing them now?
  24. OK can see that now--view is North on E22nd. It is indeed a shame that the Holiday Inn took the place of that magnificent building!
  25. What is the building going up in the background of the last pic?
