Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
I share your view. IMO if we increase frequency in this day and age of social media, you'll get many more users on high quality service. This will lead to lots of clicks and good reviews vs a small amount of passengers sitting on a broken down train on a long-distance route. As a side note I was surprised to learn Buffalo actually has more daily trains than Cleveland. I'd love to see them pull all the service into a restored Central Terminal someday!

It is a big deal! The Bibb administration should be working the phones trying to figure out a place for them in Cleveland. IMO the Opportunity Corridor makes the most sense and gives them an east side brewpub location near the exploding UC/Clinic populations.

I don't often act on tips I receive on internet forums. But in this case I did--so thank you!

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
An excellent point. If there is time to plan, certainly major renovation to CBS could be carried out over the course of a couple seasons. But this would take finding a consensus early and not waiting to the last minute to scramble and make it happen.

Using the FAA VFR chart for Cleveland, there is only about 67' in elevation difference between the field at Burke Lakefront and the base of Key Tower. So I think you're estimate of 5-10' is definitely more accurate.

Mandarin Oriental? Montage? I can already hear the rap lyrics about Cleveland hotels!

Cleveland Parking Discussion
Amen! And winters aren't even that bad! Everyone needs to take a trip up to Buffalo, where there is a Christmas market, pond hockey tournaments, and 5k races all winter long. The common theme: they all involve drinking on the streets! I've never understood why Cleveland can't handle ourselves in this way. I suppose it goes back to Riverfest....

I had heard this as a rumor several years ago, long before the midtown site was ever mentioned.

Airline Industry News and Discussion
I'm not surprised this could happen. It always bothers me when the flight attendant or gate agent comes on when parked and announces on the PA "If John Smith is on the aircraft, please ring your call button!" Shouldn't they know this???? 🤷♂️ INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED AFTER BRITISH MAN SNEAKS ONTO NEW YORK-BOUND FLIGHT WITHOUT PASSPORT OR TICKET On December 23, Craig Sturt reached Britain's busiest airport, London Heathrow, with no passport or confirmed ticket. The 46-year-old jobless man bypassed the check-in desks and headed straight for the security gates in Heathrow's Terminal 5. These security gates are automated, meaning passengers scan their boarding passes at the machines before being allowed to undergo security screening. the rest -> https://aeroxplorer.com/articles/investigation-launched-after-british-man-sneaks-onto-new-york-bound-flight-without-passport-or-ticket.php

Suddenly NS is concerned with safety? But they have no problem cutting corners leading to toxic spills...

This would be my choice. And an east-side brewpup close to the Clinic would be huge. Probably a bigger opportunity than next to a freeway in Avon.

The circuitous route to E 55th allows both E9th and W3rd to be closed for pedestrians only on the Shoreway overpasses, which is ideal. I give the Browns props the system they came up with is actually pretty smooth for moving the "high rollers" in and out of those lots that immediately surround the stadium. IIRC the stadium Director of Operations told me once that they can clear out those lots on a sold out game in under 45 minutes. Pretty impressive!

Most of the suburban stadiums are in far larger markets than Cleveland. There is much more money to go around, and the land is more valuable in the CBD. In the smaller markets, a stadium in the CBD makes much more sense (Pittsburgh, Cinci, Indianapolis). Of course there are some exceptions to this. In our case, we have much more to lose. The lakefront stadium and Haslam partnership is our best opportunity to get a dense, walkable district on the lakefront. If the Browns move to Brookpark, the entire scope of the project will end up on a far lesser scale.

LOL I have been to many meetings where I've had the same thought.

I think you may be a unduly cautious when it comes to crash landings. The FAA would however inevitably want to be involved due to the proximity however. They will want to study things like stadium lighting set that close to a Class B airport, etc.

And if Trump is elected much of this will probably go away. So please everyone get out and vote!

I understand your line of thinking, but in these examples there was no loss for the central business district (never mind the vast market size differences). LA was playing in the Colisuem in a neighborhood not known for it's sports bars. And Dallas was up the street in Irving. It's not like they left a district that depended on them. This move would be CRUSHING to downtown Cleveland. I know the naysayers like to talk about 12 games a year, but for many of these weekends the hotels are sold out from Friday through Monday. People come into town to party and attend other events in downtown Cleveland, then hit the game on Sunday. It's a key component of downtown restaurant, bar and hotel revenue. So Haslam will have his real estate and a little football "village" in Brookpark, but who the hell is going there other than those 12 days a year? That math doesn't work either.

Sadly this has been attempted a few times before over the previous decades, so I'm not holding my breath. I still think the Bills should have put their new stadium next to this. Would have made an impressive "ballpark village".

Seems like lose-lose. Unless the plan is to populate the bluff with 3 story buildings then high rises further inland?

Makes you wonder who the "elitist chodes" actually are? I own an investment property in Highland Square in Akron where these kinds of comments pop up all the time in neighborhood groups. I would expect that there, in a neighborhood filled with people who went to college for 17 years and never left...
