  1. Sorry Ethan--not sure of your age but I found incredibly funny as someone who spent a good chunk of my 20's partying in "blighted looking" buildings on Old River Rd in the Flats!
  2. Arenas and/or stadiums tend to be built adjacent to convention centers not due to the need for the additional space, rather that the country or local convention bureau already owns the land and it makes sense to have a "complex." I've been in just about every one of these in the country and believe it or not, they tend to be in the smaller, regional cities (Peoria, Augusta, Binghamton, etc). Seemingly every one of these tertiary markets seems to have one! Arenas and stadiums do not make for useful convention space, unless a large gathering is necessary. For example a national political convention, some large religious gatherings, or even an evening entertainment event as a part of a larger convention. 10 years ago I would have told Cincinnati to definitely build an arena to get the GOP there, back when Ohio was still a swing state. I'm not so sure it would pay off the same way now.
  3. Would love a near west location. I currently drive by 3-4 Giant Eagles on my way to Meijer in Avon because it is that much better than Giant Eagle. I hope they move into this market in masse.
  4. Quick read for those following the 737 Max 9 drama. Like many American companies, letting Wall Street dictate your corporate culture is not always the best idea. Boeing’s Shift from Engineering Excellence to Profit-Driven Culture: Tracing the Impact of the McDonnell Douglas Merger on the 737 Max Crisis Boeing’s journey, particularly with its 737 Max, reflects a dramatic shift in the company’s core values and operational philosophy, a change significantly influenced by its late-1990s merger with McDonnell Douglas. This pivotal event marked a departure from Boeing’s storied commitment to engineering superiority and a safety-first mindset, pivoting towards a business model heavily emphasizing cost efficiency and rapid production, often at the expense of product quality and safety. Historically celebrated for its engineering-driven ethos, Boeing’s success was rooted in innovative design, meticulous attention to detail, and a culture deeply respectful of its engineers’ expertise and contributions. This approach not only built a strong reputation for quality and reliability but also ensured unwavering attention to safety in both design and manufacturing. https://www.airguide.info/boeings-shift-from-engineering-excellence-to-profit-driven-culture-tracing-the-impact-of-the-mcdonnell-douglas-merger-on-the-737-max-crisis/
  5. In Cleveland they'd probably have to beg Norfolk Southern to open the bridge to get to any lakefront scene.
  6. Another reason these departments all need to get rid of their blacked-out SUVs and go to traditional coloring (blue/white, black/white etc). You can't tell who is who any more.
  7. How bout dem Cowboys? 😜 Will Jerry be delivering a pink slip to McCarthy downstairs? Maybe Belichek flying in tomorrow? Stay tuned....
  8. Is it safe to call this location an "Urban Meijer?" 😜
  9. I would have grabbed a photo of his hack license and refused to leave the car, with my phone in my hand about to dial 911. It usually makes these kind of taxi drivers reconsider. Of course I've done this without a wife and 6 year old in tow....
  10. I'm sure converting to single family has the full support of otherwise NIMBYs. They like to keep the riff-raff out 🙄

If you're going to force 11 year old rape victims to carry a baby to term, they might as well smoke and drink as well. Thanks Ohio GOP!
  12. It would definitely cut down on the airline clusterf*&ks if connections were made by rail rather than short flights.
  13. It helped that the Browns handed win number 9 on a silver platter due to the game having no bearing. But yes I would say a successful season in retrospect. And all hail the AFC North!

That's right folks...Ohio is #6 on the list of outflow to other states. People are leaving and the Legislature is tackling these important issues facing NO ONE today.
  15. It's been there as long as I remember, going back to the 80's.
  16. I don't think it looks awful. Might be brighter during the day, but if they turn the lights down in the evening could still pull off the cozy, classic vibe that we all loved in the old hotel lobby/bar area.
  17. Oh no have they left Brother Jimmy's on the east side? When I was living there that was my Browns Backers spot.
  18. Sad news from Japan as 5 Coast Guard crew members were killed when an airliner landed on top of them, but incredibly all passengers and crew aboard the JAL A350 were successfully evacuated. If you've ever traveled in Japan you would understand this--they take the safety seriously and as a culture are respectful of these processes. I have witnessed the flight attendants stop a video and "shush" Americans who would not stop talking during the briefing. Sadly in the US, if this were to happen there would be a large amount of fatalities as no one would know what to do and would also be fighting to save their designer luggage from the overheads.

The MAGA side is the only ones putting these crazy policies into practice. I'm not aware of any super progressive states actively forcing kids to change genders to play on different sports teams. These kinds of things are extremely rare, unless you hang out in the MAGA echo chamber, where they will try to convince you that every other high school kid is trying to get into your bathroom. But MAGA legislatures are 100% forcing 11 year old rape victims to carry babies to term, or women to risk their lives to deliver a stillborn, unviable fetus. The vast majority of Americans are right in the middle and don't want any of this $hit. But the gerrymandering and primary races force us to have to deal with it.

Here are the numbers, based on a WKYC story I just read: "For reference, the bill passed 24-8 in the Senate and 62-27 in the House, both more than enough to override the governor's veto. However, a second vote will now have to be taken in each chamber, so it's possible some lawmakers could change their minds." https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/local/ohio/house-bill-68-opponents-gov-mike-dewine-veto-override-effort/95-4f2a97d3-475d-4f64-a904-6369da5979fa
  21. I am not surprised by the lack of public response. The news dropped around the holiday and the City of Cleveland staff are mainly checked-out. I would hope that Justin Bibb would pop up the first week of the new year and try to get Great Lakes to have a discussion at least.
  22. Well almost half of them are living in a disinformation echo chamber to start. They also think America exists in a bubble and isn't part of the world economy. Our inflation rate is much lower than most of the industrialized world, but somehow Biden doesn't get credit for this.
  23. Opportunity corridor would make the most sense, and be a hot destination for U Circle happy hours and dinners. If not there, I'd love to see them on the bluffs overlooking the lake, somewhere between E 30th and E 65th in the old Lakeside industrial area. Would make for a great rooftop beer garden location destination.
  24. I couldn't see anything obvious. It looked as though it had been maintained, though was quite outdated.
  25. Well technically the Ravens are the old Browns...complete with division titles and Super Bowls
