  1. Many CPD officers leave for the suburbs only to regret it. I'm sure @KFM44107can expound on this.
  2. Doubtful. The economics of wide bodies have as much, if not more to do with the freight riding on pallets below than the passengers above. CLE would have to position it's self as a freight hub for these jets. Right now besides over at Fedex and UPS, there isn't even equipment to deal with this.
  3. Well she did used to work at the department store a couple blocks away 😜
  4. More voting against your interest GOP supporters! Amtrak can service small town America. Don't shoot yourselves in the foot!
  5. I get the sentiment but I 90 already floods there during storms with winds out of the north. Not sure a tunnel would be a great idea. Maybe they could build up a green cap over it to protect the roadway and provide the same access?
  6. $22.5 million against their $400 million for the new place? 🤷‍♂️
  7. I don't disagree male vs female. I'm 6'4" 255 lbs and don't have as many people mess with me. However, a mass shooting on W 6th at 3 am when the bars are letting out and the young kids park on W 6th and block the streets is different than walking to your car from E&Y at 5 pm on a Friday afternoon.
  8. As a "streaky earner" I can sympathize with them in this regard. I can make more than enough to qualify for a house in Cleveland in one summer, and show it for 10 years, but still I have a hard time getting a mortgage. The underwriters are spreadsheet people that have to see that income spread over 12 months consistently, otherwise they just push it to the side. It's so bad that my wife and I bought a couple investment properties and decided to leave me off the process because she could qualify by herself and including me could very well lead to a rate increase while we fight with the mortgage people. If there was one law I could sympathize with it would allow 1099 earners to lock in a rate while they wait for the banks to do their thing...

I thought the same that the menu was confusing. You have to go to the home page to find out it's South American tapas. Pretty poor web design IMO.
  10. Looks like the person in the car is in serious condition at Metro. I believe there are crossing gates on 40th there. I wonder if they were working or if the car went around them? https://www.cleveland.com/metro/2023/07/person-hospitalized-after-car-vs-amtrak-train-crash-cleveland-police-say.html
  11. Agree 100%. I do hope the city of Cleveland adds to this investment with improving the streetscape around the Rock Hall. Something needs to be done about that intersection with the stop signs, which on busy days becomes super hazardous for pedestrians and vehicles alike.
  12. Since this is the county is there any chance of a public-private partnership on this? Give the building to a private developer for $1 instead of paying for demolition? Country retains the land? Something creative like the new HQ worked out?
  13. Maybe the lady was working at the Hustler club?
  14. Its relevant in that if we have 1/3 the population that we had in 1950, then it would stand to reason there should be 1/3 of the city workforce, roughly.
  15. The city of Cleveland is still the 7th largest employer in the county with 6757 (according to wikipedia). I'd still like to know what it was in 1950.
  16. Except patronage and union jobs because popular rallying points for voters, which is why government never tends to shrink. I have yet to find the figures, but I'd love to find out exactly how many people the City of Cleveland employed in 1950 at peak population vs today. I'm sure it's a way bigger number today with 1/3 the population.
  17. It might be a bit tight for the Goodtime to get out of the harbor, but I think the Mather would make a killer cruise ship terminal. Tie off to it and visitors can start their entrance to Cleveland aboard a real lake freighter. All it would take is some additional mooring points and cutting a handicap access route through the Mather.
  18. Wow that's pretty brutal. I guess it could affect a player, like the left fielder charging center field to make a play on a ball?
  19. I'm not blaming any victim. It's just common sense.
  20. Years ago they used to shut the entire Shoreway down to allow room for more people . Hopefully it gets back to those levels!
  21. Broken car windows are not some sort of larger societal problem with the "system," other than we don't provide mental health and substance abuse treatment in this country they way we should. 99.9% of all car break ins are linked to some local addict rooting around for change or something else of value to sell for drugs/alcohol. It amazes me when I walk by these parked cars downtown on game nights and people have all kinds of stuff laying out in their car, like an electronics warehouse! When I park downtown I even hide my phone charging cable and leave nothing visible outside the parked car.
  22. This takes me to my decade long complaint with Cleveland (through three council members now, Westbrook, Zone and Spencer) which is the stretch of West Blvd between Detroit and just south of Madison. They redid all of West Blvd reducing it to one travel lane each direction, with a center turn lane, bike lane and street parking. But for some reason this section was left 2 lanes both directions, leading to hazards for cars, bikes and pedestrians. If you ask the city, their reasoning is they would have to scrape the pavement to change the markings. So that's the though process we're up against here. BTW the markings are getting pretty faded in this stretch, so if everyone would join me in pointing this out to the city and reminding them that it should be one travel lane each direction, please do!

Allen should be his gym partner!
  24. Most cities are going with the automatic loading trucks, which are better for worker productivity and workers comp claims.
  25. I would count this as another perk to putting Amtrak back into Tower City. Covered, somewhat secure parking for Amtrak travelers who are obviously away from their cars for days on end. Please let us know how you fare upon return.
