  1. I would take this one step further and add a walking/bike path around the outer edge of Burke along the water's edge.
  2. Unsolicited pitch--I encourage everyone to subscribe to NEOTrans! I finally did so a couple weeks ago with @KJP's write up on bringing Amtrak into Tower City. Ken is more than a local journalist and blogger--he provides a valuable service to this community, laying out visions that our leaders don't have the time, resources or wherewithal to put forth.
  3. Mayor Jackson argued for and received from voters a .5% tax increase back in 2017 ostensibly to improve city services. I don't think anyone has noticed a change. There is a terrible culture in the city employees of actively avoiding doing anything. I know it sounds like stereotyping city jobs (4 guys watching another dig a hole), but trust me in Cleveland this is the case. It's a toxic environment where the unions protect any and all.
  4. May be a dumb question...Do the railroads lobby hard for these grants? I would imagine they would love for Amtrak to improve their tracks on the taxpayer dime?
  5. Not to be confused with 1990's Cleveland/Akron alt rockers The Frans. They had a little buzz to them back in the day. The drummer Brett Lashua was one of the best in town during that period. Jump to 9:49 for a grainy performance at SXSW
  6. Great to hear. I'd personally rather see 2x 25 story buildings over one 50 story building, especially in this application. But either way will be exciting to see another project underway downtown!
  7. Yes I know this--what I meant was the clearance in the platform tunnels aren't not all that much higher than the single decker trains. Moving in and out of stations are at slow speeds, so I doubt all that much clearance is necessary physically. What regulations deem is an entire other matter. EDIT--come to think of it NJ Transit operates those double decker cars in and out of Penn . How do they compare in height to Amtrak superliners?
  8. I feel like all the times i've been in Penn and Grand Central it's not all that high. I suppose if someone wants to go down a rabbit hole on this subject, have at it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loading_gauge
  9. True, though too many of these and their premiums would go through the roof. Which is why companies test employees (and hopefully to keep other non-drunk employees safe!)
  10. I could see a sprawling site being more conducive to jail design than a smaller footprint with more floors. I used to be pro downtown for the jail, but now with video conferencing available for hearings, arraignments, etc I don't think the prisoner transport issue is quite what it used to be. With this being said though, it should be in a location accessible to public transit so employees and visitors can get their easily. Downtown fills that need much better.
  11. After 22 days without rain it was starting to feel like LA....with fresh water!
  12. Until they develop testing for RECENT marijuana use, it will continue to be a problem. It's unfortunate that a kid that smokes a joint 2 weeks earlier can lose his job because he's on a forklift and tests positive for weed. This is a huge issue with young African Americans, who tend to use weed more than alcohol.
  13. Good question. Probably yes, but they will point their fingers and say someone else should do it in order to drag their feet and not do anything for 10 years.
  14. If you talk to members of council, they have to beg and plead to get anything like this done from the city departments responsible. Even every day tasks that should be a part of their normal job routine often requires multiple calls to department heads to initiate any kind of action. It's a wonder anything gets done in this town. I'm sure DCA experiences the same, or has to go via their council rep. I have found, however, that many things like this go unreported. City workers will drive right by it hundreds of times. Until someone like a proactive Urban Ohio member actually points it out to the Council rep and gets the process started from the top, it will stay that way for years. So I would suggest contacting Kerry McCormick on this needed repair. Send a photo and ask why it's been that way for years. Hopefully the squeaky wheel will get the grease. [email protected]
  15. It's a government project and government is notoriously bad at maintaining things (seemingly even more so in Cleveland). It's also a much older building, and has issues with asbestos IIRC.
  16. I took a quick Google and the proposal calls for Duval county to fund the stadium, and the owner to fund the surrounding ballpark village. Maybe not a great deal, but at least the owner has some skin in the game.
  17. Seems like you have a lot of experience witnessing these movements! LOL Back to the topic--GO BROWNS!
  18. I think apples to oranges there Yabo.
  19. and the new Aer Lingus flight is an Airbus 321 single aisle. 🤷‍♂️
  20. These guys all need to be more cautious. They were probably sitting in the club all night with $50K of jewelry showing off. The perps just had to sit outside and wait.
  21. The Bills are THE ONLY team that plays in New York.
  22. I have friends living there working remote--be forewarned Mexico has been cracking down and requiring visas as Americans moving into Mex city specifically as it was driving up rents for everyone, causing a political outrage amongst the locals. https://www.expatinsurance.com/articles/yes-mexico-is-cracking-down-on-visas
  23. Congrats CVG! Up here in CLE I am jealous of that widebody also!
  24. I wonder what the tech is. Cellular hot spot out there powered by solar?
  25. It's another reason I wish US restaurants would go to the tableside EPOS machines like the rest of the civilized world! No way the server can fudge the tip when you enter it on the machine. I'm seeing more of them, but still the vast majority of bars and restaurants are still the paper, hand-written tips.
