Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait to see those windows lit up at night! I've been driving by that bricked-up building for decades!

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
At the time of the planned expansion, Hopkins was still a mini hub for Continental. The new runway would have allowed for simultaneous operations in IFR conditions (instrument flight rules--low visibility). Could Burke's functions be transferred to CLE? If by "functions" you mean take off and landings, sure. There is more than enough capacity at Hopkins in it's current state. But in reality, Burke serves a different purpose. There are multiple flight schools operating there, as well as the Clinic's air ambulance operations (both fixed and rotary wing). University Hospitals helicopter is also there, along with multiple for news media the Cleveland Police. None of these operations would would want be based at a major commercial aviation airport where taxi wait times and distances to the central business district would be impacted.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Correct. The current newer 24R/6L would have remained in use. They would have converted the older 24L/6R to a taxiway. Then built a new 10,000 24L/6R over the IX property. File under "old and not going to happen in our lifetime", so back to the regularly scheduled topic 😀

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
None of it seems all that serious. For the life of me--does RTA not trust their train operators in single-track situations? Or just shut down a couple hours early for overnight maintenance.

A football program might help. Make it so!

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I was downtown yesterday evening for the Soldiers & Sailors tunnel tours followed by dinner and drinks. The streets were packed despite the lack of any games or events at Gateway. Some kind of dance competition was at the Convention center, sold out show at HOB, and a general suprising level of activity not touched by the Cavs, Guardians or Browns.

Owning Rental Property in Ohio's Cities
I used Zillow rentals to advertise and show my place in Highland Square in Akron, but not for payments. Overall it was a good experience, other than I think it attracted a lot of "tourists" who had no intention of paying what I was asking for rent and just wanted to kill a few hours on a Saturday.

I have 2 rental properties. One pays via Venmo, the other via Zelle. Greatest things ever.

Owning Rental Property in Ohio's Cities
Sure this can happen with a "high-quality" tenant like the one she managed to find. I actually had the ID theft thing happen when I was renting downtown in a building years ago. The management had hired an unscrupulous lady in the leasing office, who was stealing mail from tenants. Thanks to the lease files, she had access to everything including SSN, mothers maiden name, etc, making it very easy for her to open credit cards in everyone's name and steal them when they showed up in the mail weeks later. A few of us took all this information to the police, who showed zero interest in doing anything about her. I've been renting out 1/2 my owner-occupied duplex for years. I do exhaustive tenant screening, including calling references. In addition, I make sure when showing the property to remind prospective tenants that they would be living right next door to their landlord, who will see and hear everything they do. This alone seems to chase away the riff raff. Thankfully I haven't had to do this in about 7 years as I've had the same wonderful tenant, who is also my neighbor and friend (and has a key to my house if the need arises while I'm away).

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Last night I went to the game, and noticed that during every time out, Bickerstaff and his coaches would meet under the basket and let the players be by themselves at the bench. They would draw something up then go over to the bench at the last second to talk to them. Maybe it's me, but most of the NBA coaches I've watched are there with a clipboard in hand, shouting instructions and huddling up the next 5 on the floor as soon as the players reach the bench. I don't watch a ton of basketball on TV until the playoffs and I do realize that we probably don't see it on TV if other coaches are doing this as this would be right when they cut to commercials. Clearly Bickerstaff has had his share of success and must have reasoning for this, but in the playoff-level of intensity I found this very odd.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
Haha he stores at Riverfront. We just got stuck behind little Sam Laud. The bonus was the bridges were all open as we followed her through! It was a nice way to spend a couple hours watching her back out of the crooked river!

Took a friends boat out of storage yesterday, following the Sam Laud downriver. Here are some "before" photos of Irishtown Bend as it stands now.

Interesting that the landfill process was still underway at Burke and only one runway!

Apparently the personalized pavers around the Feller statue have finally reached the end of their useful life. From a Guardians email just now:

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Yeah at least yesterday's game got interesting in the third/early 4th quarter. But everyone needs to step up in the playoffs all four quarters. The Knicks are playing with a chip on their shoulder because the media all said they shouldn't be in. Unfortunately the young Cavs don't know how to counter. Makes you wonder if we would see better results if "grandpa" Kevin Love was still on the bench?

The city of Cleveland probably needs at least another 10 years before they venture into QR codes... 😝

MLB: General News & Discussion
One benefit a Nashville expansion team would see is the same as Vegas--people will travel there to see their home team. Or, they live in Nashville but they are from somewhere else and will go see their home town team. This would be good for early attendance numbers for an unproven expansion team.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
That game was one of the sloppiest, playground-ball games I've ever seen in the NBA. Hopefully the Cavs can bring that same energy to Game 3 at MSG!

GO BROWNS!

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I live about 1000' from the lake myself. I'm sure the Browns move many practices indoors this time of year anyway. Maybe the football village investment on the lakefront can include sidewalks heated by steam to enhance the year around usefulness?

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Definitely one of the most fiercely loyal fan bases in the country. It's astounding after the last 25 years of mediocrity actually.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I prefer the glass half full. Look at it as a the headquarters of a multi-billion dollar corporation, which is used year-round BTW. The employees and trainers would immediately become a part of the fabric of this new community, dining in restaurants, shopping at retail, or perhaps even renting apartments (many coaching staff etc live here temporarily). Would Tito Francona still ride his scooter to work if the Guardians had a training facility in Berea? In addition, there could be some public recreation component opportunities. For instance the Browns renting their practice field for a youth football or soccer championships etc.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I hate to keep harping on it, but yet another reason to move the practice facilities downtown. There could be practice fields on top of parking (and even use the stadium field itself when they need extra space). The Browns offices could be attached to mixed-use buildings helping anchor the complex. No offense to Berea as it is a lovely little bedroom/college town, but I just don't see a mixed-use "football village" amounting to much there. This all needs to go on the lakefront as a part of the large-scale vision with significant public investment needed here.

I wonder if the Bengals would have anything to say about this...
