Great news but OMG the posts on your Facebook page. I can't believe how negative people can be!

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
I don't think you're going to see any improvements in Mentor. They best you can do is convince her to move next door to the village in Willoughby, where there is some walkability.

Lake Erie
Just ran across this story about a guy who walked to Canada across frozen Lake Erie alone. Uhm... no thanks. I Walked Across Lake Erie — Alone "I felt like a penguin on a giant treadmill. The Canadian shoreline just did not seem to be getting any bigger." Editor's Note: This story was originally published in the December 1978 issue of Cleveland Magazine. We've republished it as part of our Historic Read of the Week series, in which we revive classic pieces from the magazine's archives. Read more about Dave Voelker's walk as part of our "30 Myths That Define Cleveland" December 2019 cover package. https://clevelandmagazine.com/in-the-cle/articles/i-walked-across-lake-erie-149-alone?fbclid=IwAR2cNMY251BVRpRf_O1hBPVzzI_GskZt1ujvMCPh1q3ejhcJ6hEz0xy3CgA

Airline Industry News and Discussion
This story is completely bewildering. How did we get to the 11th hour, with billions spent on implementation, and two industries and their aligned Federal agencies at odds with each other? Along with our crumbling roads, bridges and education system, I count this as another step to second-world status.

Ohio: Recycling News & Info
Wow I was skimming through the report referenced in the story (https://clecityhall.files.wordpress.com/2021/02/city-of-cleveland-final-report-2-22-2021.pdf) and this table was included highlight just how bad we are in Cleveland at recycling. I can see being worse, but 30, 40 or even 50% worse than other major cities? SMH....

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Since they name Cleveland and East Cleveland specifically, I assume the buses were not having issues in other service cities. Hopefully Bibb can figure out the snow plow issue...

Cleveland Relocation: need neighborhood, school recommendations
Make sure to read all the fine print and confirm 100% AT&T is offering you fiber. I learned the hard way when I thought I was getting it, and the tech installed copper DSL because the fiber, while in my area, couldn't be pulled to my address. Of course they never mentioned this and I didn't realize until my up/down speeds were like 2005. I ended up getting rid of that right away and getting Spectrum cable modem, and have been happy ever since (though I have to call and renegotiate a new promo rate every year).

Ohio Congressional Redistricting / Gerrymandering
It will also be interesting to see how many Dems ask for a GOP primary ballot to vote for Dewine. I remember in 2016 there was a movement to do this to vote for Trump in the primary, which of course backfired!

Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
I'm ok with it. After decades of awful aluminum siding and enclosed porches, does anything really "fit" the neighborhood? I just hope the Nimby's don't torpedo it, because its success will bring more.

Game is 3 pm on Monday. Plenty of recovery time for Tuesday morning! Bottoms up!

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
One correction--the Cavs host the Nets at 3 pm on Monday. From the marketing blitz I've been seeing, I gather there are still lots of seats available!

Thanks @KJP as always! We should all forward this to Destination Cleveland and it's Pittsburgh counterpart. Great ideas all around!

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway Megaproject
Christmas in January! Glad to hear Bedrock and Gilbert are behind this. With his track record in Detroit, we should definitely see this come to fruition!

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I wish this money would be spent in the city of Cleveland, where there are plenty of brownfields and much better access to transit for new jobs.

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway Megaproject
You are correct. But--he had lots of history in the casino biz. So as a developer, it would be a good fit with connections to anchor a mixed-use development.

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway Megaproject
Casino Phase 2? While I would hate the idea, it would fit the business model of capturing sports fans especially with sports books about to happen.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
I agree---this is a great idea. It's close enough that the trip wouldn't be too long and people could sober up on the way home. I think they are scheduled trains, but I know in NC they actively promote to Panthers fans in Raleigh. I have a buddy there who has season tickets and takes the train to and from Charlotte on game day. https://www.ncdot.gov/news/press-releases/Pages/2021/2021-08-24-train-panthers.aspx

2022 U.S. Senate Race
I proved nothing. I was just correcting the historic reference to Hitler's use of the Reichstag fire.
-
2022 U.S. Senate Race
Quite the opposite. In the time since January 6, the far-right media and the Trump GOP has claimed that leftist agitators from ANTIFA and BLM embedded in the ranks of Trump supporters were responsible for the damage. In this regard it would be more historically aligned with Hitler's use of the Reichstag fire to consolidate power.

Cleveland: Mayor Justin Bibb
This is some Cleveland.com style postulation. I do hope you don't make a rash decision based on something they may never happen.
-
Cleveland: Mayor Justin Bibb
What fake oath? The city charter states the mayor's term starts the first Monday in January after the election. So his official swearing in was a small affair at midnight last Monday, and today's was a public ceremony. This is not unusual.

Cleveland: Random Visualizations & Massings
I sometimes forget that you young whippersnappers weren't around for the Bicentennial and the 2 years or so after while the bridge lighting was still maintained... I will say that the technology has come a long way since 96. An investment in LED's would last a LOT longer than those old incandescent fixtures did 25 years ago.
