Ohio: General Business & Economic News
This is true anywhere you go. Most Trumpublicans point to Germany as an example of what you pay when you live in a "socialist country." The tax burden is somewhere around 50% for top earners. But if you add up Federal, state, local and other taxes, depending on where you live this number starts to creep up to 40-50% of your income. I'd personally pay just a bit more in taxes to get the healthcare, schools, roads, bridges, airports and other fine examples of infrastructure that Germans enjoy.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
This kind of development could lead Burke to be profitable however. Somewhere way up in this thread I suggested developing the lot and terminal complex into condos and offices. Maybe Zach Reed is stealing my idea. In other SIM city news, I was flying a simulator the other day and landed at Burke. The graphics showed a large development on the north east corner of the field, where the current sediment processing facility is operating. Maybe the manufacturer knows something that we (and Zach Reed) don't know.

Cleveland: Fairfax: Development and News
I just read his story after reading this. Awful accident! It made me think back to my childhood crawling around trains parked out in Eastlake and Willoughby walking to my after school job. Glad he is turning lemons into lemonade, and this center will be great for the neighborhood.

Cleveland: Cudell / West Boulevard / Edgewater: Development and News
It has been designated historical correct? My fear is NS would just build some modern concrete monstrosity in it's place...

Cleveland: Downtown: New Police Headquarters
I could see a big group of cops all running out the front door to a cheesy soundtrack song, jumping up and freezing mid-air!

If you keep chasing away residents with flyover-country policies, it's easier to win the "per capita" game.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
I played golf out in LaGrange OH this weekend at a course called Grey Hawk. It's a newish course with a housing development included of course. I was surprised how close together the homes were, really even closer than homes in the city of Cleveland since there are no driveways running between them. I was not surprised that almost every house had a pickup truck in the driveway that wouldn't fit in the garage. And one could gauge the socioeconomic strata by the level of build-out of their rear patios. But the strangest thing was there was no one outside. I think I saw one guy in his back yard with his dog. No signs of life otherwise.

The Great USA / World Photo Thread
If you ever travel to Moscow, you can see this building from miles around as it sits up on a hill by itself. A very imposing structure in this way (and how I'm sure Stalin imagined it).

You guys are focused on Bibbs' resume, in a city where the COO in charge of all city departments is an ex water department meter-reader.... 🤦♂️

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
I was there today for lunch and no signs of what you speak of yet. Crowded restaurants and stores. No street parking available. I asked my colleague who invited me to lunch out there about this incident, and he hadn't even heard about it (he lives up the street).

Pet Peeves!
By "everyone" coming to the US you mean the ultra wealthy citizens (think of the Kingdom of Saud 747s parked at CLE Hopkins), and some moderately well-to-do Canadians who buy private insurance here for specialties (and pay higher rates than US citizens--so our US healthcare companies love them). You are correct that much of the burden of research falls on the US, but that is not unlike other industries. The military hardware specialty comes to mind. If we had a national healthcare system, the government would negotiate lower prices (as they do in other countries), and probably also have to contribute more research dollars. The net results for citizens would be better health.

Pet Peeves!
I've been to an emergency room in major cities in Germany, Canada and Australia. In all three instances, there was little wait time (especially when compared to the wait time in most US metro ER depts. I have not seen a private practice in these countries, but I can't imagine booking one is any more difficult than doctors and specialists in the USA these days. Much of the "it takes longer to see a doctor" narrative is manufactured by the for profit US medical and insurance industries. But this is probably much better discussed in the Health Care forum.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
When he was a Congressman, his GOP colleague Steven LaTourette was famously more efficient in bringing home the pork to his district. Dennis couldn't be bothered since he was only obsessed with his name on the national stage running for President. If he manages to get elected, we can be assured his administration will be a continuation of Frank Jackson's long nap.....Dennis will keep all the same players in top positions and phone it in.
