Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
This has been discussed countless times on this thread....while I am a supporter of BKL but also agree with your statement. We live in a non-dense city with acres of open land for development, including on the lakeshore. If this was all developed like Chicago, then I would be all for developing Burke. But even if the city gave away the 450 acres to a developer, they would have to remediate the landfill and build in a market that struggles to recover construction costs. IMO this would yield a suburban like development much like on the waterfront in Buffalo NY. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/7-Harbour-Pointe-Cmn-Buffalo-NY-14202/30199122_zpid/ I'm sure none of the Urban Ohio crew would approve of this! ? Per the FAA website https://www.faa.gov/airports/planning_capacity/passenger_allcargo_stats/categories/ RelieverAn airport designated by the Secretary of Transportation to relieve congestion at a commercial service airport and to provide more general aviation access to the overall community (§47102(23)).Nonprimary If you ever sit down to read the Federal Aviation Regulations, there are many guidelines left purposely vague by the FAA. This definitely fits that category. IMO the designation of Burke ties into CLEs Class B operations from better times as a small hub. This being said, anyone who deals with government agencies can testify that REDUCING levels once a capacity has been established is a very hard thing to do.

AKR also doesn't have an ILS precision approach like BKL and CAK. All the approaches at AKR are non-precision, with higher visibility minimums.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Hi Expat--I remember quite a few in Germany and at least one in Denmark. I work in the music business and there are lots of clubs and entertainment districts with these sort of outdoor porta-cabin/sea container/nissen hut spaces (Backstage Werk in Munich comes to mind). None are located in the center cities, rather in the post-industrial first ring, not unlike Cleveland. From what I've seen of this design in Hingetown, the huts will be situated off the sidestreet behind the main building on Detroit, so I personally have no issue with them, especially since they will be unique to Cleveland.

I took a walking tour of Rocinha several years ago. Was one of the coolest travel experiences I've ever been a part of.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
I've owned home variants of these type of devices and the reviews are mixed as to their effectiveness. Humans chasing off birds with cars and noise is very effective, until they come back.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
Burke has airport employees drive routinely around the perimeter on the runways and fire a starter pistol, which is a common mitigation strategy at airports with large bird populations near by. It's not 100% effective as this just scares birds from the immediate vicinity. There still may be issues on the departure and arrival paths, as the "Miracle on the Hudson" US Airways flight showed us at LGA.

I've seen these kind of structures in Europe quite a bit. The color comes from the other buildings and landscape around them. I think they will be fine in the end product.

Thanks Yabo. This only reinforces my point. If you look at their map, the risk factor is the same here as it is in southern Ontario, with a much smaller footprint.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
While I'm sympathetic to migratory birds, I call BS! There are more "progressive" states and countries that we share borders with putting up these renewable energy windmills. I flew to Buffalo a couple weeks ago and witnessed dozens of windmills on the southern shore of Ontario. There is a group of windmills to the south of downtown Buffalo on the shore for years. How is it that libtard Canada and NYS are getting these done, but Ohio is not? I would put my money on utility lobbies, and not bird migration!

On this note, has anyone noticed the windows opening up on the top of the Westinghouse building in Detroit Shoreway? It may be that I just noticed it, but I was hoping it might be a developer poking around....

I saw this on the Detroit Shoreway Facebook page a fews ago--apparently it is gaining steam as Cleveland.com picked it up today. Cleveland: Hotels, Conventions, and Tourism News & Info
Coronavirus causes a record number of hotels to default on their loans: report Almost a quarter of hotels were delinquent on their mortgage payments in July, the highest rate on record, according to a new report. Some 23.4% of commercial mortgage-backed security (CMBS) loans, which finance many hotels, were more than 30 days late in July, totaling $20.6 billion. Only 1.34% of hotel CMBS loans were in default in July 2019, according to Trepp, a New York City-based data, analytics and technology company. https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/a-record-number-of-hotels-are-defaulting-on-their-loans-report-162800156.html

I've been there before, only early morning to catch an Ultimate back to Cleveland after a Bills/Bengals game. I am also a private pilot, so will add KLUK to my list for a "hundred dollar hamburger" visit.

I did not know about the Lunken levees. So what elevation is downtown Cincinnati?

Much of the breakwalls are taxpayer supported as rich people enlist the Army Corps of Engineers to help save their property. You know, "welfare"....

I was today years old when I realized that Cincinnati is at a lower elevation than Cleveland. For instance, Burke Lakefront is 584 above sea level, while Lunken is 483'. It makes sense after thinking bout it and the hydrology of Ohio, but it just seems strange.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Since 1990. In my current location since 2008. I've seen a street sweeper 1x this year. I don't find sweeping the streets as a bar we should measure by. 3-4 times a year should be standard, and is in other similar-sized cities. We also have to pester them to empty the public trash cans and mow city owned lots. Neighbors complain that calls to the waste department to get replacement carts go unanswered. And for months the city has been sending the blue recycling contents to the landfill without informing residents.

I'm not sure services could get any worse in Cleveland. I never really saw any uptick from the .5% income increase that Mayor Jackson promised. I'd hate to see what it's like if they have to trim the many layers of fat.
