Ok, I went and seen it for a second time today...lol. Sorry, but I've been following this for almost 5 months and I needed to answer some of my questions. First and foremost. I went to Taco Bell and got a Pizza Hut pizza combo. BIG mistake! I got a stomach ache and got pretty queezy on the second showing! So if you have not seen it yet, watch what you eat before you go! LOL MAJOR SPOILERS Unusualfire, I am starting to wonder as well if there is a second monster! I noticed something very different in the tail that smashed the Brooklyn bridge and another full shot of the monster's tail walking through Manhattan. The tail that hit the bridge was fully round and came to a point at the end. The monster walking the street had almost an eel type tail and was flat on the end. Could be more than one? Hmmm I seen the Easter egg and it was plain as day! I cannot believe I didn't see it before. It happens in the distance just behind the cruise ship to the right of the screen on the horizon. It is a white smoke streak traveling about the speed of a meteorite and has a pretty big splash down. I now think this thing came from space. So what attacked the oil platform in the viral marketing? Read up above to my response to Unusualfire. If you have been following Jamie and Teddy on the viral marketing, you get a shot of Jamie passed out at Rob's party on the couch. Jason (Rob's brother) is wearing a Slusho t-shirt which is a subsidiary of the Tagruato Corp. Interesting... The end sound clip distinctly says "Help Us" with static afterwards. I do not know how that would say "It's still alive" if played in reverse, but I think that may be fake. But it does say "Help us" for sure. Overall, I liked the movie even better on the second time around as it allowed me to focus more on the movie this time. I knew when to look for the monster this time and it was pretty badass! Can't wait to see how all the viral marketing ties in with this story!

^---that was part of the viral marketing. The Tagruato oil platform off the coast was destroyed and then a couple oil tankers. Also the oil tanker that was burning in the movie if you were quick enough to catch it had the Tagruato logo on the stack. I have no idea what Tagruato and Slusho have to do with this thing, especially after the easter egg in the movie. Guess we will have to wait and see ;-) There is also a new pic of something that was beached which apperas to have been eaten on 1-18-08.com. Kinda gross, but check it out. Another clue?
  4. I've been thinking a lot about the building 26 controversy. I have concluded even though the building may have played an important event in US history, the structure itself was a piece of s*** and was not really worth doing anything with. It was not all that old and no one really wanted to redevelop it anyway. I think what the UD wants to do will serve the area much better and I support higher education well more than a crappy office building with only 1 important event in it's lifetime. Thoughts?

This is what happens when you keep Tom Cruise or Will Smith out of a movie. Higher a bunch of no names that will do the film for nothing and you can spend most of the budget on the film :-)

A lot of news this morning already on Cloverfield. Cloverfield brought in over 18 million on Friday. Director Matt Reeves has pretty much stated a sequel is on the way and hinted that some filming may have already taken place for the sequel. This follows right in the shoes of Lord of the Rings in filming multiple sequels at once. And last but not least...and this confuses the hell outta me...is that the monster may not have anything to do with Tagruato at all! Matt Reeves stated that there is an easter egg in the movie of the monster's origin and Cincykidbc1s wife may have already discovered that ;-) Spoiler alert! If you did not stay to the end of the credits, the sound clip at the end which no one could really understand says "Help us, it's still alive"! Auuuuggggghhhh! The producers sure not what they are doing on this movie. Now I need to see the sequel!

Finally got to see it tonight and I have to say all my expectations were met. The monster is freakin awesome and the roar is creepy. For a movie that only had a $30 million budget, I cannot believe how great the effects shots are. I thought the character development was decent. I love the Cloverfield theme music score! There also is a key sound clip at the end of the credits so stick around to the very end, and you get a clue to the future of Cloverfield. (Spoiler alert!) There is no bigger monster in this movie. Abrams has already stated that there is only one. That is it, nothing else. The monster is 25 stories tall walking on all four's. When it stood, it was big enough to knock the helicopter out of the sky that was at least 400+ feet in the air. Any bigger would be totally ludicrous. As for the holes, this is just the start of a much bigger and far deeper story. Instead of explaining it all in a 1 hour 30 minute movie like Godzilla, this will span over sequels and we will learn a little more with each sequel which will probably be in 2 years. I wouldn't expect to see the home video footage anymore. This was just the start to get the story going. Be proud of America's new monster! He's p****d!
  8. ^---This is a sad reality. I have a few friends who resorted to staying with their parents for a short time until they got back on their feet. I almost had to do this myself when I lost my job in Kentucky and still was forced to move back to Dayton where I stayed with some friends for a few weeks until I found work again. This is a sick reality for our government to recognize. This country is so in debt now it's almost gross. China practically owns us in manufacturing and the oil-rich countries have this country at their feet. When is the government going to wake up to this and quit being blind-sighted?
  9. ^---Unfortunately sprawl has killed any chance in this state of walking or biking, and has almost killed off mass transit. I know it's what WE want, but we have to be realistic about this. Ohio's cities just aren't dense enough like Chicago or New York to be bikeable or walkable. Mass transit may take some rush hour traffic off the street, but most suburbanites are too vehicle dependent and will cite one-way streets and parking as 2 of the primary reasons for not going downtown. Columbus is working on the one-way streets (as is Dayton) and it's working on the parking, but you could never have too much parking since it's what the everyday non-city dweller simply wants (even if their is an abundance of it). Society is just getting extremely lazy and want to be able to park right at the front of the door if they could. Go watch people park at any mall. it's funny as hell watching them waste more time finding a close parking spot instead of walking an extra isle.

  14. IKEA delivers minimalism to the masses The merchant, which is opening a store in the area, prides itself on simple products. By Shelley Emling, Cox News Service Friday, January 18, 2008 STOCKHOLM — When American shoppers hear that Swedish home-furnishings giant IKEA is opening a store nearby, they circle the opening date on their calendars and camp out in the parking lot the night before. How does a chain emphasizing simple design and quirkily named merchandise inspire such passion? "They have an astonishing array of products at reasonable prices," said Swedish shopper Ilze Filks. That simple mix has made IKEA a global leader in economical, assemble-it-yourself home furnishings, with 237 stores in 36 countries. The company has 33 stores in the United States and will open another 25 stores worldwide this year, including one in West Chester on March 12. It's the kind of place where intrepid shoppers can find a three-seater sofa for less than $100. IKEA by the numbers 522 million: Number of people who visited IKEA's stores last year. 450 million: Number of people who visited IKEA's Web sites last year. 9,500: Number of products IKEA offers. 3,000: Number of products to be launched this year. 25: Number of stores to open in 2008. 15. Big GM news day... General Motors CEO's plan doesn't include Moraine union By Thomas Gnau Staff Writer Friday, January 18, 2008 General Motors Corp. wants to cut its yearly American labor costs by another $5 billion in three years, GM's chief executive said Thursday. GM estimates that it spent $10.1 billion on U.S. hourly employees in 2007, according to a Web site chart GM CEO Rick Wagoner presented auto industry analysts in a conference call on GM's turnaround plans. The company's goal is to cut that amount to about $5 billion by 2010/2011 and beyond, the chart says. But that was not a reference to a union which represents workers at GM's only Dayton-area plant, the International Union of Electronic Workers-Communication Workers of America, GM spokesman Tom Wickham said after the call. ... http://www.daytondailynews.com/b/content/oh/story/business/2008/01/17/ddn011808gm.html

  18. Air Force Museum puts F-22A Raptor on public display By John Nolan Staff Writer Thursday, January 17, 2008 WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — The F-22A Raptor, the supersonic stealth fighter aircraft that the Air Force says is essential to maintaining the global superiority of American air power, went on public display Thursday. A crowd of Air Force officials, defense contractor representatives and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base employees turned out for a ceremony in the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. It was spotlighted as the world's first permanent static display of the Raptor, a $160 million plane that entered the Air Force's operational inventory in December 2005 and can fly at twice the speed of sound. An F-22A Raptor exhibit was unveiled on Thursday at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Assistant Vice Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Oh, btw, there is a anime Cloverfield online comicbook out. It dives in deeper to the Cloverfield mystery. It looks like they are really going to give Godzilla a run for the money with this thing. Can't wait to see more. Here's the English translated comics. http://merzmensch.blogspot.com/2008/01/cloverfield-manga.html

I haven't looked locally yet, but apparently midnight showings are selling out everywhere. Too bad I don't get paid till tomorrow! :whip:
  22. As for Don Pablo's, I did eat there a lot and the service SUCKED really bad! I only went because I love their chips n salsa. but their service was flat out lousy. Even so, that doesn't explain the mass exodus of restaurants closing here in Dayton. I'm sure someone eventually is going to say the Greene...lol

About 90% of the reviews thus far are really positive! There are the few select reviewers that just don't get movies and for some reason love to compare this to 9-11. C'mon people! it's a monster movie! Buildings will crumble and people will bite it! Anyway, the buzz is VERY good so far. If you have not yet read any reviews by now, then I suggest you wait 1 more day and don't read any reviews as they have unfortunately been spoiling the monster and there is an actually clip someone snuck out of the movie on their cell. I regret seeing the clip now and wish I would've waited. Oh well LOL
  24. Dayton approves rent-to-own housing construction Homes will be built in Edgemont and Miami Chapel neighborhoods. By Joanne Huist Smith Staff Writer Thursday, January 17, 2008 DAYTON — Renters who want to become homeowners will have 40 new opportunities in Dayton's Edgemont and Miami Chapel neighborhoods. On Wednesday, the Dayton City Commission approved $150,000 in federal HOME (Home Owning Made Easy) funds toward construction of the New Dayton Homes I project by the Cleveland-based NRP Group. The single-family homes will be available to lease purchase, with rents averaging $485 per month. Eligibility will be restricted to families earning 60 percent or less of the area median income.
