  1. NewPage sheds 660 jobs; area could benefit By Tim Tresslar and John Nolan Staff Writer Wednesday, January 16, 2008 MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — NewPage Corp. said Wednesday it will cut 660 jobs and close facilities or curtail some operations in Ohio, Maine and Wisconsin as it absorbs another papermaker. NewPage is making the moves to help combine its operations with those of Stora Enso North America, acquired by NewPage in December. In Ohio, NewPage in November will shutter a Chillicothe facility that converts rolled paper to sheets and ships them, the company said. The move will eliminate 160 jobs. NewPage plans to move some of the converting machinery and the work to facilities in Luke, Md., and Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Moving the converting operation closer to where the company makes paper will help it cut shipping and other expenses, NewPage spokeswoman Amber Garwood said. 2. ^---Somehow, I just don't fully trust ODOT when they state this, after all it's ODOT. Look at the disrepair of some of our roadways. Are they any gusset's of this type on Brent Spence?
  3. ^Columbus is doing that (one-way to two-way conversion? Good! That means Dayton is not the only screwball in Ohio! Those renderings look pretty good. I actually thought they were existing garages at first glance!
  4. Yes, I agree Great American Ballpark actually sounds pretty good. Kinda gives a hint of American pastime to it. Too bad it is still a branded name, albeit a good one.
  5. Well, when Riverfront was named to Cinergy Field, I continued to call it Riverfront along with most people I knew. Some names are just dumb. :-D
  6. Man! What's going on here Dayton?? I mean seriously, these are major CHAINS closing, not ma and pa operations! 7. Flyers reaching rare air in polls UD men move up to 14th in AP poll, 18th in coaches' poll and fourth in the RPI standings. Tuesday, January 15, 2008 By Doug Harris, Staff Writer DAYTON — The University of Dayton on Monday jumped from 17th to 14th in The Associated Press Top 25 men's basketball poll — UD's highest ranking in 40 years. And while coach Brian Gregory talked more about upcoming foe Massachusetts than his team's lofty status, he did acknowledge it's a proud day for the program. And he's even more pleased by UD's position in the Ratings Percentage Index standings. After finishing 76th (out of 336 schools) in the computer ratings last season, UD has climbed to fourth — two spots ahead of UCLA and three in front of Kansas. No UD team has finished higher than 20th. "Fourth in the RPI is pretty impressive to look at — more so when you look at the teams lower," Gregory said. "We tried to organize our schedule to beat some quality teams if we were good." The Flyers (14-1, 2-0 A-10) have gotten a bump with four road wins and three victories over ranked teams. 8. Gregory delighted to be at Dayton Brian Gregory has been around those wandering-eye types, the coaches whose dream jobs are never the ones they have. He sees them bouncing from school to school, uprooting their families, keeping a realtor on speed dial, searching for something greater. More money? Fame? Superior players? Maybe a better fit, whatever that means? "Coaches sometimes make that mistake and then realize how good they had it," Gregory said. "I do realize it." Gregory has it pretty good at Dayton right now. Led by underrated senior guard Brian Roberts, the Flyers entered the week ranked No. 17 in the AP poll after posting a 12-1 preconference record that included wins against Louisville and Pitt. They are ranked in January for the first time since 1969. Dayton opened Atlantic 10 play Wednesday night with a 92-83 win at home over No. 22 Rhode Island, giving the Flyers 12 straight victories. I can't help but wonder how some of the construction crew must feel working at the site?

Cute pics. Check your thread title spelling Grassy ;-)
  13. Not really sure how anyone would know that. The 2007 park attendance reports have not been released yet. My statement was based on the fact that Six Flags lost a lot of ridership last year due to ride mishaps including the incident in Louisville, and the New Orleans park still has not opened. Other parks that estimated a loss of attendance were Holiday World, Disney California, Busch Gardens Virginia (don't know about Florida). Don't know about other parks as I have not read anything yet, but Six Flags loss constitutes a large chunk of parks across the country. But on a side note, CF is claiming that last year was a success as reported WHIO and WCPO last week. "SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) - The Sandusky company that owns Cedar Point and Kings Island in Ohio says all of its amusement parks in the U.S. and Canada had a good ride in 2007. Cedar Fair says its properties welcomed 22.1 million visitors, up from 19.3 million in 2006. Also, the average park-goer spent about five percent more last year. To keep the good times rolling, Cedar Fair plans to introduce new promotions this year and spend 88 million dollars to put new stuff in its parks. That includes 21 million to build the Behemoth at Canada's Wonderland in Toronto, which will be Canada's tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster." http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=e535942a-dc5a-4173-993d-388bc52b063f So according to CF, attendance was actually up from 2006.
  14. I didn't know the Fujitec tower was an elevator testing structure. I learn something everyday. ;-)
  15. Here's a quick hack job I did just to give an idea of QCS from that angle.
  16. Also, by my guess, QCS should be about as high as the flag over Carew from hat view :-)
  17. I'm not so sure it will (destroy the view). It will occupy the same exact spot from that angle, but be taller. and even though I like Scripps, i like the QCS better, plus that angle will provide the side view of the tiara which will be much different than the front view. I think it will be very interesting!
  18. eh, it's all good!
  19. ^---I really doubt this had anything to do with CF purchasing the parks. The truth is most of the general public really had no clue that CF had bought out the parks (unless they caught it in the news). Attendance was down across the country, not just at CF parks. As far as amusement park die-hards, the vast majority will tell you that Paramount ran their parks into the ground and CF has been cleaning up a lot of the damage that Paramount caused since they acquired the parks, especially Kings Island.
  20. i do not think so. They will be going up to the left of the hotel, almost off the left side of this picture. BTW, this is a good pic! Did u take it?

  23. Either way, what happened to freedom of religion in this country? I sure hope this wasn't really why the zoning board rejected the approval.
