  2. The cat does kinda have the QCS look going, LOL
  3. Where's the one outside of Cincinnati??
  4. I was trying to find stuff on the tiara, did a google search on "cincinnati tiara" and came up with this horrifying pic! LMAO! How he heck do these come up in searches is beyobd me!
  5. ahh yes, there it is. I do remember something about QCS being inspired by Chrysler (which is my number 1 building). I wonder if they will change the color of the tiara lighting at night like they do with PNC during the holidays?
  6. ^---The pbase link is coming up forbidden.

When I was in Cincinnati yesterday, I grabbed a couple close up shots of the yellow lights. I'll post them later (and yes they are bulbs and not gas as I was asking on another thread).

^--- LOL, I'm glad I wasn't going to be the first one to say something about the shirt! ;-)
  9. I see where you guys are coming from. I myself like it simply because that's what most people would expect...an enclosed pyramid at top...similar to Key in Cleveland. But that's why I love it, because it's different. It does look really cool at night when it is lit up. Remember, QCS's tiara is also a mesh. So I hope that this isn't going to be the perception that it looks like it's not finished.
  10. Columbus Zoo pays $35,000 to keep big snake COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 24-foot python at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, billed as the largest snake in captivity, is staying put. The zoo paid $35,000 to the snake's breeder in Oklahoma to keep the snake on permanent display. While on loan last year, the python helped draw 1.53 million visitors, just under the zoo's attendance record of 1.56 million set in 2006, said zoo Associate Director Pete Fingerhut. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?action=post;topic=7953.90;num_replies=103
  11. 'Dream girl' says she's in dream spot downtown Suney's Beauty and More will open with expanded business in McCrory's building. By Joanne Huist Smith Staff Writer Friday, January 11, 2008 DAYTON — Dream girl, that's what downtown business owner Suney England calls herself. Though there have been lean years operating a business downtown, she never wavered in her belief in the city's core as the location for Suney's Wigs and More. 12. I cannot say I've actually know of any office building today that doesn't have central air. that's pretty funny! Other than that, some great pics! Nice looking town.
  13. I do like LandMark in Yokohoma. dmbfanatpsu, Your really think Bank of America is ugly? The building looks much better in person I suppose. The building is modern art deco style and the pyramid at top is actually 23 karat gold leaf plated. It was completed in just 14 months. Pretty freakin fast for a 1,000 footer! Built in 1992, I'm pretty sure this building provided a lot of inspiration for QCSII. Here's a better pic...
  14. Dayton is really doing well this year! Championship bound? What is the current rank?
  15. Hundreds attend job fair at Butler Tech for new IKEA store At least 400 positions still need to be filled before the store's March 12 opening. By Meagan Engle, Staff Writer Sunday, January 13, 2008 HAMILTON — Nearly 300 people had already come to see what Swedish retailer IKEA had to offer, and there were three hours still left in its Saturday job fair. The popular home-furnishings store is set to hire 400 local people before its grand opening March 12 in West Chester Twp., along Interstate 75. Located just south of the Union Centre Boulevard exit at Allen and Muhlhauser roads, the site will be the company's first store in Ohio. It will include a 350-seat restaurant and bistro, said store manager Lonnie Rodgers II. "We're looking for people for our part-time positions in the store," Rodgers said. The positions include sales, logistics and service. Anyone interested in applying can visit IKEA's Web site, at IKEA.com. http://www.daytondailynews.com/b/content/oh/story/business/2008/01/13/ddn011308ikea.html
  16. ^---I myself like it. But then again, one of my favorite buildings is Bank of America Plaza in Atlanta. If a mesh can work for Atlanta's tallest, it can work for Cincinnati.
  17. Good news indeed! I'm sure Cedar Fair park attendance will be better for 2008 than 2007. Last year was a big year for transition. This year will be better.

  19. True that the height is padded, but in a day and age that most new tallest buildings (outside of Burj Dubai) are only taller because of crappy spires, I'd prefer the tiara any day. At least it took a little design work versus Indy's tallest. No offense Indy, but spires are cheesy.
  20. When I was driving down I-71 today, I noticed the tower crane and was wondering what was going on there. Here is a rendering of the Kenwood Town Place complex.
  21. I'll be in downtown Cinci/Newport today taking some random pics (mostly around the purple people bridge). If anyone else is around, introduce yourself. I'll be wearing blue jeans/green corduroy coat and a white Ron Jon Surf Shop hat. :-D

  23. So much for preservation...way to go UD. UD begins tearing down NCR Building 26 By Anthony Gottschlich Staff Writer Friday, January 11, 2008 DAYTON — The University of Dayton on Friday began demolition of Building 26, the site of NCR's top-secret codebreaking operation during World War II. The city of Dayton issued a demolition permit Friday and workers began dismantling the building at the corner of South Patterson Boulevard and Stewart Street around 3 p.m., UD spokeswoman Teri Rizvi said. "It will take about a month for the entire building to be down," Rizvi said. Read More...

Kroger, Meijer exits called unusual By Joanne Huist Smith Staff Writer Saturday, January 12, 2008 The city of Dayton's efforts to keep existing businesses and help them expand focuses largely on high and living wage jobs in growth industries such as health care and technology. The Kroger on Gettysburg Avenue that closed on Jan. 5 didn't fit that mold. Neither did the Meijer at 2744 Harshman Road. Meijer, on Wednesday, sent the city a fax that it planned to close the store. City Manager Rashad Young said the notice was the first indication he received of the store's slumping sales. ... http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2008/01/11/ddn011208meijer.html Thoughts anyone?
