  2. This is totally off topic, but I've been meaning to ask for quite a while now: What are those? What are they for? I have never seen them in ANY other city I have ever been in. could someone post a picture? I do believe these are what everyone is referring to (pic provided by ColDayMan). If I am not mistaken, these are some of the few remaining gas powered lamps in the U.S. are they not?? I think he means thetype discussed (and shown) in this thread. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=2817.0 Yes! That's the ones. It's been so long since I seen them, couldn't exactly remember what they look like. Are they gas burning??
  3. they've been opening in early January the past couple of years now. Not really sure why. I can't see them really busy and a cute girl wearing an eskimo jacket serving my food is not going to make me stop in. ;-)
  4. The streets are lined with government buildings? We have the courts building, the federal building, Montgomery County offices and jail, the new juvenile detention center and Dayton city offices. That's no more here than any other midsize city should have. That accounts for about 3% of downtown. And no mention of Dayton's performing arts culture or mention that downtown Dayton is home to one of the top community colleges in the country? That's almost insulting. I can't stand when someone comes in from out of town, spends an hour here and automatically thinks they know everything. Yea, Dayton has some issues, but give us a little credit. It was the electric starter that was invented here, not the electric ignition. They are two different and separate components. Outside of those, the article is dead on about the manufactoring loss and the region not being prepared.

^---:lol::lol::lol: I did have a neighbor that was trying to cook a t-bone in the oven and it caught on fire! Panic happened as we tried to put it out! It was hilarious!

I had a similar problem when a friend of mine fell into hard times and I let him and his girlfriend stay at my place (a 1 bedroom) for a while. I offered them my bed since it was a King. I stayed on the couch. They seriously took advantage of the situation and it got to the point that they were keeping my bedroom door shut 24/7, bitching if I went in there, not letting my cats sleep on the bed, eating my food, not paying for any rent and everytime I came home from work, there they were laying on my couch with a mess all over the pace. This went on for about a month and a half before I finally said something about it. They tried to justify what they did by saying, "Hey, we are living here too". Oh really?! I asked them if their name was on the lease, they said no and I said "Well then, get the f*** out of my apartment!". I don't tolerate being used and neither should anyone else.
  11. Yes, I was going to say that ugly complex off I-71 was there well before 5/3 moved in. Also what building were you (Lanskieth17) referring to in Lexington that just got built? If you are talking about the Lexington Financial Center (Lexington's tallest), that was completed in 1987. I wouldn't expect 5/3 to build something over Macy's as far as a headquarters. But I do expect them to consolidate sometime or another. It's not cost effective to run offices in several different buildings and 5/3 is growing fast.
  12. I service the dell computers at this company. Pretty cool to see them in the spotlight...
  13. Mound Laser & Photonics wants Dayton to be major laser manufacturing center By Thomas Gnau Staff Writer Tuesday, January 08, 2008 Larry Dosser steps off an elevator and turns a corner, gesturing and talking all the while. "It's as exciting and dynamic a time as it's ever been," said the president and chief executive of Mound Laser & Photonics Center Inc. in Miamisburg. Dosser talks about the laser welding system his company bought in 2007, the 1,500 square feet in floor space by which his company expanded and the 600-watt fiber laser welding system he expects to be shipped to him Jan. 14. ... 14. Hey Jake, if you win, I've been a good guy to ya, right? :-D
  15. I think Sonic is talking a 4 county area, Montgomery, Miami, Greene and Warren. So I think 30 will be fine. I think there primary target is direct competition with the burger joints. The root beer stand on Woodman used to be an A&W. I just continue to call it that since I grew up around it.
  16. That's what what I was wondering :bang:
  17. ^---You know Billy, that's a GREAT choice! Especially after the renovation! Have you been inside that sucker yet? It's incredible! Maybe that should be added to the voting list. Does anyone have any pics of the Kuhns Building renovation?

Yea, I watched the whole thing wondering when someone was gonna finally bite it! LOL
  19. I'm sorry Dan, I was not trying to be insulting to you. But these are your words from a few pages back... To me that implies an "I don't care what happens to inner city problems" attitude. I'm proud that your payroll taxes support the city of Cincinnati, but my guess is that it's not by choice. As for me, yes I do live in Kettering, but I claim my taxes for the city of Dayton. That is by choice. I also vote in the city of Dayton, shop and dine downtown when I can and visit downtown when I have nothing to do instead of going to the Greene which is only 1 mile from where I live and Dayton's hottest destination right now. I'm a suburbanite that supports Dayton as much as I can because I know how important it is to keep the core healthy. Why I live here is the same reason jmeck states, in that I simply have not made a decision to where I would like to wind up. But if I could afford it, I would be living in a downtown loft. I do not ride public transit for reasons which I stated before, but I do support rail and would vote for it. I do not like sitting in a parking lot on I-75 on the way home from work. I know how I-71 and I-75 gets in Cincinnati during rush hour. I put up with it for 5 years while I lived there. Why does everyone else cry about that and then not support a rail solution which would've helped? So spend 2 hours everyday of your life everyday instead of paying a few bucks more per year for rail? That's 2 dimensional thinking.
  20. well that just sucks

    ^---Sure did!
  22. Gotta get to my BCS Party, Bo Bucks!!!!
  23. The Cincinnati-Dayton region as you say as "fictional" is not growing except in Warren and Butler Counties. This is fact anywhere you read.
  24. Thomas, the loss you state in the Dayton MSA was largely due to split of Springfield from the Dayton MSA in 2003 which resulted in almost 100,000 decrease fom the Dayton MSA. not because more people moved from Dayton than Cincinnati. Also consider the Cincinnati MSA mainly increased in Butler and Warren Counties which in large part comes from Dayton to Warren County which again is the Cincinnati MSA. Hamilton county LOST population during those years mentioned. Care to recalculate? ;-)
  25. Thank you for illustrating my point perfectly! You think the neighborhood you live in now will stay new and beautiful? Think again. Sprawl will make sure it doesn't! As for me, I live in a suburb (Kettering), but I know that I need to support the City of Dayton as well as I can. The thing with you is, you just simply don't give a damn which is EXACTLY why I stated "I don't live there, so it's not my problem". Well, I don't live in Washington D.C. But it is my problem who is in office there which is why I vote. You should care for more than just the neighborhood you live in. Whether you like Cincinnati or not, it is the center of the region and needs EVERYONE'S support.
