  1. Actually suburban sprawl is the number 1 reason reason why inner cities decline. The idea of moving further and further away from declining centers by building way too many strip malls and new housing that a region simply cannot support is a horrible economic scenario. Not too mention 80% of suburbanites prefer to stay out of the central cities and shop at every other new mall getting built every other year which exasperates the problem and in turn causes even more decline. If you or your neighbors lived in Cincinnati and moved to say West Chester and 1000 others followed. Who do you think moves into the vacant housing you are leaving behind? Certainly not residents from other states or other metropolitan areas. That fact is that the overall population in the Cincinnati-Dayton region is decreasing. You CANNOT have growth without population increase or the region is going to have problems. Non-Cincinnati residents residents REFUSE to work with Cincinnati because of this "I don't live there, why should I care" syndrome that I often here from way to many suburbanites. The region gets funding from Ohio on a "the bigger you are, the more money you get basis" and since the overall region population is declining, guess what that means? Less money for EVERYONE, not just the declining areas. What does it take for sprawlbanites to wake up to this fact and start trying to make the region grow as a whole and help stop the population loss?
  2. ^---Oh yeah, there's no doubt about that. But I do see some filling the gap between say Scripps and QCSII sometime or another. Maybe Fifth and Race finally getting off it's ass?
  3. I do believe search engines order their results by the number of hits (or popularity) websites receive. Do you agree Rich or is there another system they use to display results? I know I've done "Queen City Square" numerous times and UrbanOhio is usually near the top which is understandable.
  4. Dan, this is only the beginning of the system that would lay down the foundation for a much larger and greater streetcar system. Other lines will be built as well. You can't just put all your lego's together at the same time, you need to build your way up. Your Ohio taxes are already being funneled into wasteless billion dollar highway projects that are not doing anything to curb the congestion problem. At least this gives us an alternative. It works for everyone else that is much smaller than Cincinnati, so why do you think a 3.5 metro region cannot benefit from it?
  5. Well this is discouraging. Posted in the the Dayton Business Journal. Not looking good for Dayton. Sign in and vote! http://c.bizjournals.com/ct/c/23234318
  6. I would have said Convergys a couple of years ago, but that got ruined. But lately I have been wondering as to when 5/3 Bank in Dayton is going to consolidate since they have offices in 5 or more different locations downtown. How many locations are they spread out in Cincinnati? That might be a good indicator. Or maybe Chase since they have expanded into this area? What building(s) does Chase lease in Cincinnati?
  7. I am not sure what the Cincinnati costs totals are, but I am referring to the southern Ohio region from Brent Spence to I-70. The Brent Spence is estimated to surpass well over 900 million alone which already blows light rail costs out of the water. Also the I-75 widening will only be to 4 lanes I believe from 3 with a select few axillary lanes here and there. A lot of money just for 1 lane of asphalt. So anyone saying rail is too expensive or not worth the cost needs to take a second look and educate themselves.
  8. Beef O' Brady's opens today in Beavercreek By Kristin McAllister Staff Writer Monday, January 07, 2008 BEAVERCREEK— Beef O'Brady's restaurant opened today in the Beaver Valley Center. 9. Sonic is a MUCH larger and more unique food chain than Quizno's. Quizno's didn't have a chance in this area which is dominated by Penn Station and Subway. Sonic has no other drive up restaurants in this area to compete against except maybe an A&W on Woodman Dr and will succeed strictly on that alone. The ones they already built are packed during all business hours.
  10. And thank you for illustrating my point. Urban core rail without regional support is a waste of time and money. Millions of $$$ to bring the OTR criminals closer to their customers is a waste. Now that just makes no sense. OTR criminals are already getting to where they want to be because of buses and walking, They don't need a light rail to go where they are already going. Light rail will not increase criminal movement. It may provide another way, but the numbers will say about the same. Also, to oppose rail because of the cost is non-rational thinking. The cost of this is a mere drop in the bucket compared to what it takes to keep a functional highway system. The I-75 upgrade is expected to surpass 350 BILLION dollars! Just to widen I-75 which will then already obsolete before they even get the project finished. Then in 40 years from now, they will have to spend another 500 BILLION (inflation adjusted) just to upgrade it again. Then you have to factor in the cost of repaving every other year, damage control, rising cost of gasoline, pollution, vehicle wrecks, etc. etc. etc. The beauty of rail is once it is completed it rarely needs upgraded. Just maintained and new lines added to regions that require it. It is a very cost effective alternative to highway and bus transit.
  11. I would think if they ever wanted a tallest, they would have done that the first time. P&G's current headquarters are regarded as one of the best twin towers around. Yea, they are no Petronis Towers, but they still have their own elegance. I would actually be disappointed to see P&G leave their current home. Edit: Unless they built something far more spectacular.
  12. ^---The building's not all that big. Only 84 feet taller than Carew. If it was 700, then I would start wondering. But even then Cleveland would still rank #1 as far as out of proportion skyscrapers. Also, I would bet this is going to stretch the envelope for Cincinnati anyway. Will anyone break QCSII? Not anytime soon, but I would expect some more 500+ footers to get built in the near future.

I can only speak for us, but I pretty confident in saying the test markets (ex: Dallas, Raleigh & St. Lake) and first screening markets (Austin, Las Vegas, Tampa) usually offer contest to generate feed back. This movie is going to suck. Go out and see P.S I love you, The Golden Compans, I am Legend or The orphanage instead! Cincinnati is in the test screening contest. As I mentioned I signed up for it (Saturday) already. Already seen Golden Compass and I am Legend. Golden Compass was NOT better than Narnia or Harry Potter and I am Legend was good, but I can see getting bored of it after only a couple of showings. Cloverfield may or may not suck...actually it's already destined for failure due to the massive hype surrounding it. But I just love how they marketed the movie. That's what makes it worth it even if it doesn't fair that well on the big screen.

I know the one pictured is not Robot, that's Robby from Forbidden Planet. But Robby never said "Danger Danger", that was Robot from lost in space that said that. How do we get in these conversations anyway? LOL

I already signed up for the Cincinnati one.

Keeping up with this, there are new viral videos of an oil station owned by Tagruato (the company that has something to do with the Cloverfield monster) that are getting attacked. These videos can be found in Japanese, French, Italian and German. No English one yet, so I have no idea what the reporters are saying. Judging by the news report, this movie is going to be a ride! Here's the French version. Can anyone translate this? :-) " Edit: here's all a link to all 4 news video's with Spanish and German translations... http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/

That was Robot from Lost in Space that said "Danger Danger". I also don't think QCSII is in no way close to outrageous. And when is my Robby the Robot joke gonna phase out? LOL
  19. Windsor Park runs between Normandy Lane and Congress park Dr. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&addtohistory=&address=432%20Windsor%20Park%20Dr&city=Dayton&state=OH&zipcode=45459%2d4111&country=US&geodiff=1

    ugh....maybe in Dubai...and 200 stories taller. LOL
  21. QCS will be wider than 303 Broadway. Those renderings are approximate when it comes to height vs width. I simply resized the original renderings and kept the aspect ratio equal, so if I resized it by say 30% in height, then it is also 30% in width. QCSII is simply fat. Remember, it's only 40 floors, but yet has over 800,000 sqf! That's a lot space to fit in 600 feet, so it has to have a big footprint to fit all that space.
  22. ^---I don't think it will be quite as visible coming down 75. Even though it will be the tallest, that is the worse view of the CBD and I think you will probably see maybe 1 or 2 floors and the tiara at the most. I'll see if I can dish up an image from that angle.
  23. Well, I guess if it comes out of sci-fi, then Dubai would be the place to build it!
  24. ^---LOL! I thought of something like claws coiming out of the ground, but the seam monster tentacles are even better!
  25. ^---Formerly American Building.
