  1. That is a good point. Didn't think about that, not too mention they probably would have a height restriction nonetheless. Rando's idea would be much better. A 2 or 3 20-25 story complex would look fantastic for Dayton,
  2. ^--- I guess it really wouldn't be any more outlandish looking as say the Signature Tower in Nashville, which would be almost twice as tall than anything they currently have. Or maybe the Jenga building in Louisville which is just....ugly. But heck, I'm a skyscraper nut, if they think they can do it, I say bring it! :weird:

No apologies needed. I've done that before ;-) The original plans called for the rail system to run between points of interest along aviation trail which I guess is viewed as Dayton's heritage, hence the name. However, if this is now going to run from UD to downtown then the name does need reworked. Suggestions?

  5. Oh that would an awesome reuse of the Arcade Square, but I just can't see a hotel this size in downtown. The existing hotels would definitely lobby against it I'm sure, especially Doubletree.
  6. ^---Yea, but wouldn't that be freakin awesome!!! :-D This is actually an idea that's been around for quite sometime. A friend of mine showed me this plan about 3 years ago from someone that had inside eyes. I actually posted something about it here in the forums to see if anyone else knew or heard of it. Not many responses. But anyway, the original plan was to use a vacant warehouse somewhere in Dayton, but I can't remember which one or where. The hotel was not part of it at the time. Ever since, I thought this was a dead project. Maybe not? As for the hotel tower, I would imagine this will not be anywhere near downtown...most likely by the museum? Hotel rooms are in short supply in that area and something of this magnitude could really bring in some more tourism I would think. So maybe it is doable without stepping on the backs of others?

RTA takes leadership in rail plan By James Cummings Staff Writer Friday, November 30, 2007 DAYTON — The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority will take a leadership role in implementing a plan to create a streetcar system that would connect the University of Dayton area to downtown, transit authority board chairman Bryan Bucklew said Thursday. And though the RTA probably will be the agency through which federal funds for such a project would be funneled, Bucklew and other officials said the transit authority can't afford to put any of its budget into building or running the rail system. About 75 supporters of a Heritage Streetcar system met Thursday at the Dayton Convention Center to discuss the benefits and costs of such a project. Streetcars, which would run on rails with overhead electrical lines, have been proposed as a way to link the scattered sites associated with Dayton's aviation history — from West Dayton through downtown to the Museum of the U.S. Air Force. http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2007/11/30/ddn113007rail.html

  9. LOL, I noticed that horizontal scrollbar is even scrolling my text. I'm just using the IMG command.
  10. I noticed when I post 2 or more pics that are wider than the webpage, It will only give me one horizontal scrollbar for all the pics. Is there a way to make it show a scrollbar for each individual pic instead? I noticed it in both Firefox and IE. An example is at http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=8280.msg238428#msg238428 Thanks.
  11. Miamisburg becomes latest community to sign on for regional dispatch center Mayor says city will save up to $150,000 a year by using county's planned $2.1 million dispatch center. By Ryan Justin Fox Staff Writer Wednesday, November 28, 2007 MIAMISBURG — The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to become the latest Montgomery County community to formally sign up as a client of the county's regional dispatch center. Last week, the City of Dayton announced its participation in the planned $2.1 million dispatch center to be directed by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at the former Mound site in Miamisburg. "It would be expensive for a smaller town like Miamisburg to try to keep up with that kind of technology" planned for the regional dispatch center, Miamisburg Mayor Dick Church Jr. said Tuesday. Church said joining the regional dispatch center would save the city as much as $150,000 a year and would bring more customers to businesses near the Mound site. Miamisburg and Dayton join the cities of Trotwood and Clayton as well as Washington Twp. as the area communities on board for the dispatch center. Oakwood, Kettering, Huber Heights, Vandalia, Englewood, Union, Centerville, West Carrollton and Moraine have decided to stick with their own dispatch operations. 13. 16. Just a quick cellphone pic from the 8th floor of Key Bank. I wish I had my good camera. But didn't turn out too bad for a cellphone. :|
  17. Looks like work on the first phase of Tech Town has finally begun! The area is fully fenced off, with bulldozers moving dirt and new signs in place. New Sign... Site Prep...

  20. CarMax has plans to build car superstore By Thomas Gnau Staff Writer Thursday, November 22, 2007 WEST CARROLLTON — Think of it as one of the largest auto lots you've ever seen. Now think of it as clearly visible from Interstate 75. CarMax has submitted plans to West Carrollton to build a "car superstore" on 15 acres on Miamisburg-Centerville Road. The $19 million development will have up to 120 employees earning an average salary of $44,000, the city said. CarMax plans to start building in the second quarter of 2008. The site west of I-75 was once occupied by a Ramada Inn, which has been demolished. The land is owned today by Chuck George Interstate Ford. George abandoned plans for a dealership there in late 2006. He bought the property for $4.4 million in February 2005. 21. I stopped by and looked at the spot where this would be built and I have to say it is one heck of a view downtown! Not too mention what it would do for this section of town. If the zoning doesn't get approved for this project, I wiould be very upset! :argue:
  22. I haven't been down to Newport much lately, but when I do go, I love to stop by and look at the construction of this project. Newport and the entire riverfront is really on the move. This along with the Edge across the river, the Ascent, the Banks, Ovation and whatever else that's going up along the river is going to make the CBD look pretty darn impressive. Now only if they'd just get QCSII going...
  23. LOL, I noticed that as soon as I posted it. Figured u would catch it fast!
  24. This is really awesome! I think this is one area that Dayton seriously lacks...condo's with great river views. Yea, so maybe it's not the Ohio River, but great views nonetheless. This could be a boon for future condo development for Dayton. I can't help wonder if this has anything to do with the new I-75 alignment project downtown? Easier access? Possible sign of future things to come?
  25. From the November 19th issue of the Dayton Daily News... Firm seeks to build luxury condos downtown By Joanne Huist Smith Staff Writer Monday, November 19, 2007 DAYTON— A local architectural firm wants to build a luxury condominium tower that takes advantage of Dayton's great river views. Dayton-based Pinnacle Architects met with the land use committee of the Fair River Oaks Council Priority Board Monday evening asking for their positive nod for three zoning variances for construction of a 15-story condominium tower at 15 Central Avenue overlooking the Great Miami River. http://www.daytondailynews.com/b/content/oh/story/business/2007/11/19/35238619_ddn112007condo.html
