Dayton - Vacant real estate costing city millions
Dille is the property that was recently annexed to Centerville that resulted in a heated battle with Sugarcreek Twp. It is the wooded area with the big house on the corner of Wilmington Pike and Feedwire Rd.

Cincinnati-Dayton Megalopolis
There's still plenty of development between Dayton and Cincinnati to be done yet guys. Plus the simple truth is that both cities are getting overrun by suburbs and sprawl anyway. The two city limits will never get any closer than they already are. Suburban growth and Ohio Annexation regulations have pretty much made sure of that. I hereby declare the Cincinnati - Dayton region, Suburbannati.

Top 10 Worst States for Jobs
None of these suprise me except for Nevada. With Las Vegas being the number 1 growing city in the US, you would think that alone would drop the unemployment rate.

What laws would you change/create to improve your city?
My argument then would simply be that it is illegal, cigarettes and alcohol are not. The law has been written and there now has to be a change in that law. No change for cigarettes or alcohol law. I am saying that if you are going to change this law for the reasons of non chemical addiction, then legalize the steroid. Anyone with me? Doesn't kill, not chemically addictive, makes sports more entertaining but I guess weed does as well from the user/spectator perspective Regular steroid use does cause death, much more so than alcohol or tobacco. Lots of people who use regularly die young (usually before 40) of heart, kidney, or liver failure. Not to mention the whole roid rage, kill your family then yourself side of it... Not too mention it makes your genitals shrink. I think that is a fate worse than death itself for most men!

I think the only control the government has is how much tax they are making off alcohol sales. You can buy as much alcohol as you want during sales hours and consume it anytime you want afterwards. Drunk driving is rampant along with public intoxication and underage consumption. Alcohol is controlled legally and yet, people are doing what the can to bend those rules even more. There is no true government drug control.

You are kidding, right?? Marijuana is a mind altering drug. It does not need to be a hallucinogen to be illegal for use. Marijuana contains almost 5x's the amount of cancer causing chemicals that tobacco contains. The effects of smoking 2 or 3 joints are equivalent to a pack of cigarettes. The only reason we don't hear of people dying of lung cancer due to pot smoking is because people do not currently smoke a carton of joints per week. Legalize it and watch how much health costs and insurance rise because of the unhealthy effects of smoking marijuana will create. For a state that voted to ban cig smoking indoors, I am shocked so many people would support the legalization of smoking another far more potent plant. Effects of smoking marijuana are.... Loss of coordination Problems with memory Loss or distortion of perception Problems with vision Increased heart rate Anxiety And these are just the short term effects...

Agreed. Not just because I'm from Dayton, but because they accomplished what so many have tried, and what so many believed at the time was not possible...heavier than air flight.

Empty buildings cost millions Unused properties siphon off taxes and cost the city for maintenance and police and fire protection. Yea, you gotta watch it anymore. My job is onsite computer service and some of the areas I have had to go quite frankly scared the heck out of me to the point I needed to keep some protection on me.

Dayton - 5th cheapest place to rent in U.S.
^---I actually think I am seeing a rise in homeless lately. I have not looked anything up on it, but lately I have been seeing homeless individuals sleeping in the vacant lots of TechTown, under the rail bridge near Patterson and Stewart, just Southwest of Carillon Park and other areas I've never seen them before.

Cincinnati-Dayton Megalopolis
There's no argument that the 2 airports are competing with each other. But would a centrally located regional airport really work? Who would have control? Who would get the tax revenue? Who would provided policing, safety and services? I could just see Dayton and Cincinnati in a heated battle over control of a centrally located airport, and then Warren County would join in the fight. I mean let's face it. The three can't even work together to get a rail line along 75.

Dayton: Crime & Safety Discussion
Banning Rap would mean banning video games, violent shows and movies and what not. But let's get real here, music, games and shows have little effect on gang related activity. Gangs have been an American problem since the founding of our cities. It is nothing new in our culture. I think FTHLOD explained it perfectly. It is nothing more than a product of environment and individuals seeking to find an identity for themselves. As for the timeliness of the DDN articles, I have always known about Dayton's gangs. I grew up outside of Drexel not even a mile away from the Outlaws "hideout" that was located smack in the middle of Drexel. Every kid in Trotwood knew who they were. I have seen many gang markings including SUR-13, Crips, Latin Kings and even MS-13 (whom the FBI claim are not even in Dayton) on walls of buildings and in bathrooms of bars, fast food restaurants and such for years. For Dayton officials to think they could hide it from the public is just shortsightedness on their part. I'm glad they finally fessed up to something I think everyone already knew was a problem in the Dayton area.

ForTheLoveOfDayton, I actually have seen that commenter for a few years in the DDN comments section. When you first posted here on UO, I actually thought you were the same person until now. I don't think it is someone aping you, just maybe a coincidence that they picked the same alias? P.S. Painfultruth has got to get banned from posting on the DDN. I swear that guy drives me nuts! According to him it seems all of Dayton's problems stem back from the anti-smoking ban. Ugh!

Dayton - 5th cheapest place to rent in U.S.
My place in Kettering is a duplex with wood flooring and 2 car garage. $530/mo including pet fee. Water, trash, cable and internet included. During my 4 year stay in Florence (KY), I was paying $650/mo for a similar setup at a couple different places. ugh
