Akron: University of Akron: Development and News
Tom, Unless you have some actual news to share, your speculation is a good as anybody else's. What "retail" is around the stadium? The jewelery / pawn shop? You say it's not a big deal to walk to Hunan or Bricco, so in retort, it's not a big deal to walk to Pints from downtown. In fact, there are more restaurants downtown than around the stadium, so you really have no argument there. The U of A is renovating part of the JAR now to the tune of $300K+, so I don't think they have plans to relocate anytime soon. Bottom line is an arena belongs where anybody is willing to pay for it, whether that be the City of U of A. Also, Cleveland State has come a long way in a short amount of time, much like U of A, so I don't know why you're slamming it. Unless someone comes up with some actual news we need to drop the arena talk, again.

Cleveland: Food Trucks/Carts News & Discussion
hell on wheels: why food truck owners are feeling the heat Douglas Trattner | Thursday, April 14, 2011 t was one of those deceivingly sunny late March days that we have here in Cleveland -- unseasonably cold, yet still more hopeful than February. Nevertheless, Tremont's Lincoln Park was bustling. As many as 2,000 people flooded the square, lured from their cozy nests by the promise of Polish boys, tater tots, and pad Thai in a paper box. Lines some 50 deep formed in front of the dozen or so food trucks that participated in the inaugural C-Town Chow Down. Crowds were so large that eventually everyone ran out of food and the party dispersed. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/features/foodtrucklaws041411.aspx

Cuyahoga Valley National Park will close without new federal budget Published on Thursday, Apr 07, 2011 Without a new federal budget, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park will be closed to the public starting Saturday. The closure, announced Wednesday by the National Park Service in Washington, D.C., would affect visitors centers, programs and even park trails and facilities. Parking lots would be locked. Such a sweeping closure is necessary and warranted, said Park Service spokesman David Barna. In addition, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad would cease to run until federal budget issues are resolved, said train spokesman Steven Wait. The railroad runs Saturdays and Sundays for tourists and Thursdays and Fridays for school groups. http://www.ohio.com/news/119384704.html

Umm, I would stay away from "P Spot" if I was him. Yes, very good. Had the Mushrooms, pecorino, arugula and truffle oil Cleveland considers restaurant trans fats ban By Associated Press POSTED: 07:40 a.m. EDT, Apr 06, 2011 CLEVELAND: Proposals before Cleveland's city council would outlaw artery-clogging trans fats in restaurant food and ban smoking at public parks and within 150 feet of city buildings. Councilman Joe Cimperman tells the Plain Dealer newspaper the measures he introduced Monday would back up a health campaign launched by four Cleveland hospitals and Mayor Frank Jackson. "Healthy Cleveland" began in February toward making the city the healthiest in the country. A spokeswoman for the mayor says the proposed ordinances would boost the campaign. Cimperman says some critics who'd call the legislation too intrusive said the same thing about laws requiring seat belt use in cars. Violations of the smoking restrictions would bring fines of up to $250. The trans fats ban would be similar to one enacted in New York. PARTA breaks ground on transit center: Kent facility cited as an example of the region "roaring back' By Thomas Gallick | Staff Writer Heavy rain drenched Kent on Monday, but couldn’t dampen the spirits of the officials gathered at the groundbreaking for the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority’s new downtown-Kent transit center. “It may be a little gloomy outside, but the sun is shining on Kent, Ohio today and with good reason,” said Max Blachman, regional representative for Sen. Sherrod Brown’s office. Blachman said the project was one example of the region “roaring back...despite what others might say.” http://www.recordpub.com/news/article/5010986 Court site options debated: Forum draws 150, but no agreement on idea of moving new facility out of Kent By MIKE SEVER | STAFF WRITER Speakers at a special public meeting of Portage County commissioners held Monday generally conceded that the county municipal court in Kent is inadequate and needs to be replaced. But there is still no agreement on where the new facility should be. State law requires that a branch of the county municipal court be located in Kent. County commissioners have not been able to agree on a site that meets the location, size and cost criteria. http://www.recordpub.com/news/article/5010984

Agreed, but if they are only to get across a busy street/highway they are not as bad. When they start connecting buildings, that's when trouble starts. I don't feel that a ped bridge is necessary in this instance.

Akron: Highland Square: Development and News
yanni_gogolak replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAs uastudent said, most comments on Ohio.com say that every part of Akron is bad and the Mayor is horrible and he wastes all of the taxpayer money flying around the world on trips. That being said, HS around Market St. and North is great, especially North when you get into the single-family homes. A lot of people take pride in living there. There are outskirts that are considered HS, East and South that have some problems, but nothing on a daily basis, that I'm aware of. Some people will say that the Sparkle Market that was formerly in HS went out of business b/c of theft. I don't know how true that is. Audid, I never saw that part of the article about going downtown with another grocer. I would think that would be a good model for Stansi who put in a proposal.

Akron: Highland Square: Development and News
yanni_gogolak replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionProposals could turn Highland Square site into store Four companies submit plans to Akron officials for long-awaited grocery By Stephanie Warsmith Beacon Journal staff writer Akron's want ad for a grocery store for Highland Square netted proposals from four established grocers. Three are familiar names to the Akron area — Freshway, IGA and Mustard Seed. The fourth, Santisi, isn't well-known here but is in Youngstown. http://www.ohio.com/news/118636539.html This is great news. Out of the four proposals: 1 wants City to pay for new building, 1 wants to lease a new building with option to buy, 1 wants financing guaranteed by the City, and 1 "offered to buy the property and buildings — and agreed to operate a store there for ''a minimum of five years'' — or to lease the property and buildings from the city, with an option to buy at a later date." I think it's pretty obvious what the choice should be, although I would love to see a Mustard Seed store in HS.
