Kent companies eye downtown project Davey Tree, Ametek planning to anchor new development By Paula Schleis Beacon Journal staff writer KENT: The Davey Tree Expert Co. may move 70 employees back downtown, becoming a high-profile anchor for two new commercial/retail buildings about to rise from the demolished remains of a blighted block. Another longtime Kent employer — Ametek Lamb Electric Co. — has also signed a letter of intent to lease space in the development, moving about 80 employees from its current Lake Street home. http://www.ohio.com/news/93049814.html rendering there also

WOW, talk about salesman. Went on the consumer site to check out their portfolio, started scrolling around. Go to Owens Community College (Ohio) - The Enclave. No photo or plans of the building, but a stock photo of two girls in bikins! Who cares how it looks / functions, I want to live there!

Boardman/Youngstown, Ohio - A quick jog up Rt. 11
The campus of YSU really reminded me of CSU, in the fact of all of the older "brutalist" buildings. The newer buildings do/will make it feel a lot more comfortable.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
UC took a strong approach to progressive architecture two decades ago and have not looked back. They do have some great buildings by all the big names, but there isn't any cohesive feel. It's kind of like a hobby collection. Not that I'm saying that's bad, but there are two different ways to approach a campus master plan. I do think the Education and Human Services building is pretty nice.

Foster + Partners? They have done pretty much anything you can think of as far as building typology and condition.

Akron-Canton: Restaurant News & Info
Audidave mentioned that 22 Exchange might be getting one. I could see a Coldstone there as well, or over in that historic building that is being renovated, where the Pita Pit is going. I guess Ohio Brewing is not going to be moving in there.

Yea, its starting to deteriorate pretty badly. The parking garage is in bad shape as well and will probably get some work.

Drove up Rt. 11 from I-76 to I-80, some sights that caught my eye. Also, must say that downtown Youngstown looked nice and has a great density still. YSU Campus, Williams Hall - Strollo Architects This is down the street. Don't remember the name, but looks like a Fleischman design The Tod Homestead Cemetery Non-descript modernist office building

Ha, I'm pretty sure they have some lined up, just not releasing the names yet. I would think now that the Nashville one did they should follow suit. I'm sure companies were playing the two locations off each other for best pricing.

May the Trimmest Building Win By SINDYA N. BHANOO The Environmental Protection Agency has announced an energy efficiency contest to help buildings around the nation trim their consumption. Called the National Building Competition, it is patterned after “The Biggest Loser,” an NBC show that spotlights overweight contestants trying to lose weight. The competitors include an office building in Midtown Manhattan, a department store in Southern California, a medical center in Cleveland and elementary schools in Colorado and New Jersey. http://green.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/27/may-the-trimmest-building-win/?partner=rss&emc=rss

Have they already announced who the local Architect will be (Architect of Record)? or are they not having one? I'm surprised they would utilize all of those local firms for engineering, or was that part of the deal?
