It looks like they just did away with some of the trim detailing. I agree, it does make a difference. It looks more just like a "black box" stage. Just the basics to put on a nice show.

August 07, 2021 04:00 AM Akron's BLU-tique hotel puts off opening Dan Shingler The reopening of downtown Akron's BLU-tique Hotel has been put off until October. Developer Tony Troppe had planned to open the hotel for the Pro Football Hall of Fame events in Canton this past week, he said. In fact, Troppe said he had the entire hotel booked with visitors coming in for the Canton events, for several nights. But guests canceled because of ongoing construction on Main Street downtown, including right in front of the hotel, until that part of the street reopened on Tuesday, Aug. 3. https://www.crainscleveland.com/akron-news/akrons-blu-tique-hotel-puts-opening

I hadn't seen all of these renderings. Check out the redesign plans for Lock 3 coming next year April 12, 2021 “This is not just a good parks project; this is an economic development project,” city officials say of the upcoming Downtown revitalization project. Reporting and writing by Abbey Marshall Lock 3 wasn’t meant to be Akron’s central park. Eighteen years ago, the downtown patch of grass where dilapidated buildings once stood was simply that. But hundreds of concerts and scores of festivals later, Lock 3’s 300,000-some annual visitors have turned it into a beloved site for summer entertainment, lunchtime walks, winter ice skating and more. “I refer to Lock 3 as the city’s most successful pop-up,” says James Hardy, the Deputy Mayor for Integrated Development. “The city acquired and demolished the buildings and parking structure there and erected a temporary entertainment venue as a way to draw people downtown. It was never meant to be a permanent park or venue. It ended up being wildly successful.” https://thedevilstrip.com/2021/04/12/check-out-the-redesign-plans-for-lock-3-coming-next-year/

I'm not sure if this is a building or a parking deck but it will replace in location an older building they took down last year on the Summa campus. https://goo.gl/maps/9E35SoaWaRzdXmaf8

Akron Dish: Totally Baked pizza joint features adventurous options Katie Byard Special to Akron Beacon Journal A new downtown Akron pizza joint is in a bit of a time warp — with its colorful psychedelic wall murals that would have fit right in during the late 1960s. But this place isn’t stuck in a rut. Far from it. Totally Baked Pizza — at 18 N. High St., next to the High St. Hop House bar — features adventurous pizzas such as the Shaggy & Scooby (PBJ, shredded short rib, red onion and Italian cheeses) and the Tony Montana (whole grain mustard, shredded short rib, ham, Italian cheeses and pickles). https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/lifestyle/columns/2021/07/21/akron-dish-total-baked-pizza-akron/8009940002/

So the public is going to be able to wander around the tower? Or will there be public space in the tower? I highly doubt they are going park in their deck and walk business guests to public square in January to enter through the pavilion.

Demolition of downtown building moves forward, historians hail building's architecture Diane Smith Record-Courier As Ravenna officials move forward with plans to raze a downtown building to provide parking for nearby businesses, local historians are calling attention to the building's significance in the city's downtown. City Council's Committee of the Whole moved forward with an ordinance authorizing demolition to make way for more parking and landscaping for nearby businesses, such as Guido's and Riddle Block 9. Neighborhood Development Services, which approached council last week about the demolition, could not be reached to answer questions about the cost of the building. https://www.record-courier.com/story/news/2021/07/21/historians-hail-architectural-history-building-slated-demolition-downtown-ravenna/8024854002/

Mayflower is pretty well along. It's remaining with the same tenants from what I was last told. FirstEnergy lost a number of employees when they were forced to split into two companies between generation and transmission. One company took the old post office building on E. Market St. that Akron Children's was last in. Also, they are not yet required to come back to work. Will they be at some point? Probably, but it's an unknown. Less employees, more office hotelling spaces and recent legal issues doesn't scream like a new for a new office tower to me. Having been involved with many I can state that is not true. If you are stating a new construction with state LIHTC, sure then that could be the case, but I've been involved with new construction that accept HUD vouchers as well.

Developer shares plans for new, affordable housing units at Routes 43, 261 in Kent Kaitlyn McGarvey Record-Courier More affordable housing could be in store for the south side of Kent near the intersection of Route 43 and Route 261. Pete Schwiegeraht of MVAH Partners, a real estate developer working with the property owner, told city council that plans are still being conceptualized. However, they currently envision the property being host to two multi-story buildings with their own entrances and amenities. Each building would house about 75 units. One building would be for senior housing and the other affordable housing for lower-income families. https://www.record-courier.com/story/news/2021/07/10/developer-shares-conceptual-plans-new-affordable-housing-kent-portage-ohio-zoning/7900156002/
