Akron Zoo wrapping up construction on Wild Asia area for tigers, red pandas, white-cheeked gibbons Updated Oct 26, 2020; Posted Oct 26, 2020 By Robin Goist, cleveland.com AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zoo is nearing completion on its Wild Asia area, which is set to open in the spring as a home to Sumatran tigers, red pandas and white-cheeked gibbons. During a recent media tour of the ongoing construction, zoo officials told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer the area has been under construction since November 2018. Industrial Realty Group has begun construction of more than 60 new units at its East End development on East Market Street. IRG plans to lease the new apartments for about $1.80 to $1.95 per square foot. Family-owned Menard Inc. acquired the property, south of Maplewood Career Center and north of the Windmill Lakes Golf Club, last week, said Stephanie Savage of Jack Kohl Realty. Akron’s Main Street reopens to two-way traffic; outdoor drinking area opens near Lock 3 Updated Oct 02, 2020; Posted Oct 02, 2020 By Robin Goist, cleveland.com AKRON, Ohio – The repaved section of Main Street in downtown Akron, between Cedar and Mill streets, reopened to two-way traffic this week, and includes an outdoor area designated for drinking alcohol. The city announced the first phase of the Main Street reconstruction project is mostly finished, with the final touches scheduled to be completed in weeks, including reopening pedestrian access on the west side of Main Street and installing lighting, signs and landscaping. Akron City Council approves improvements to Akron Executive Airport, paving way for development on nearby land Updated Sep 15, 2020; Posted Sep 15, 2020 By Robin Goist, cleveland.com AKRON, Ohio – City Council on Monday approved plans for more than $6 million in work at Akron Executive Airport, including improved runway lights and reconstruction of a runway that would allow for development of nearby land.
