The Martin University Center, a 40,000-square-foot former private club that opened in 1918 and has been vacant since 2013, is being redeveloped into a 73-room boutique hotel by an investor group led by Tom Chema, who is probably best known for spearheading the development of sports venues in downtown Cleveland. "We expect to spend something north of $14 million in hard dollars on the project. That does not include the acquisition, so we'll invest a total of about $19 million," he said. Looking at the site plan, there are apartment buildings on the back of the site. How would one access those?

Thanks! This has been up for a couple weeks at least but I have not had a chance to grab a photo. Northside is not a technically an area defined by the city. It is considered part of Cascade Valley. This proposed development is across the street from the newer Cascade Lofts. The developer of that is calling the area NoHo for the street it sits on, North Howard. And, as you can see, they are calling this project the NoHo Commons.

Progress on the College of Business addition.

Need to see what the numbers are that total to that $1.2 billion. The business school is $72 million. The parking deck is $23 million and is not using any state funding. So you have $100 million right there.

City Councilwoman Sarita Cunningham, R-Ward 1, said she’s not sold on the Imagine initiative, and would rather see the city invest more in filling vacant downtown-area homes with young families seeking their first home purchases. “If we get these homes filled, we won’t need to fix downtown,” said Cunningham, the longtime owner of Massillon Quickprint at 131 First St. NE. They have two grant sources mentioned, ODOT and Ohio Public Works. Would they give money to fixing housing? City Approves Campus Lofts Design By George Nelson | May 7, 2019 YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Youngstown Design Review Committee this morning approved a proposal to build a $12 million student housing complex near Youngstown State University. Campus Lofts LLC already has started demolition of the former St. Vincent DePaul thrift store building on Wick Avenue and the adjacent Penguin Place building, where it plans to build the proposed four-story development.
