Hudson petition effort ‘insufficient’ for vote on downtown project By PHIL KEREN Reporter Posted Oct 29, 2018 at 12:01 AM Updated Oct 29, 2018 at 1:14 PM HUDSON — A referendum petition effort by residents to place the fate of Downtown Phase II before voters has failed, after the city determined that the petition was “insufficient.” Finance Director Jeff Knoblauch, based on advice from City Solicitor Matt Vazzana, determined Oct. 26 that the petition was “insufficient” because Council’s motion approving the preliminary plan for the project “was an administrative action” which was “not subject to referendum proceedings” under state law. Knoblauch was required to make a sufficiency determination on the petition under the parameters set up in the city charter. http://www.mytownneo.com/news/20181029/hudson-petition-effort-insufficient-for-vote-on-downtown-project

Akron: Summit Lake Developments and News
I think everyone that can see the vision of Akron agrees that Summit Lake should be further exploited. The housing around the area however is the lowest in Akron. There is barely any reason to build new in the middle and upper class areas of Akron. So, unfortunately looking at today's standing, there is next to no chance that anybody would take on building new in the Summit Lake area. What you hope is that revitalization in Kenmore will start to spill into Summit Lake. It will be a slow process, but the City government and other groups are pushing forward with small improvements.

Summit Lake area looks to a fresh future BETH THOMAS HERTZ [email protected] With a report released this summer showing that the water quality in Akron's Summit Lake is better than previously thought, plans that were already underway to work closely with residents to rejuvenate the area have been given new life and new leverage. The Summit Lake Vision Plan — being developed through the Akron Civic Commons, the city of Akron, Summit Metro Parks and the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition — proposes many improvements that would encourage people to come to the area that has been underutilized in recent decades. Ideas include a lighted fountain in the lake and an amphitheater area. Also proposed are a marble-themed artistic display/play area, boat ramps, kayak/canoe rentals, a splash pad, a boardwalk and road improvements. https://www.crainscleveland.com/akron-news/summit-lake-area-looks-fresh-future

Cleveland: Fairfax: Development and News
This is hilarious. Why would someone sit on the corner of a busy intersection? A busy intersection in the boonies, as depicted. Welcome to the only "Development Strategy" whose goal is no development at all. I don't mean to say we shouldn't be aspirational, but I think this is overly negative. It's an overpass. What do you want them to do? A twenty story residential tower built over the air rights of the RTA tracks with a Shake Shack on the ground floor? You have to start somewhere. Unfortunately our rail system was built on a freight rail corridor and it's inconvenient to get to. Nicer alternatives to this (like a cap) are very expensive. No, let it be what it is. Not every space everywhere is pedestrian friendly. And this one is clearly not. Why invest money in benches, hard and softscapes that will never be used and cause a maintenance issue?

Didn't see that coming. No, not good for Barberton. Unfortunately this seems to be another one of those times when large companies are shifting HQs to other nearby cities. Akron just lost Myers Industries. We went through this about 5+ years ago. Akron lost Omnova to Beachwood. Cleveland lost Eaton to Beachwood....

Putting this in here because of this quote in the article. Akron tried to keep Myers Industries, but isn't sure it had a chance Dan Shingler He also noted that the city has land available right downtown for new construction, thanks to the closing of the Innerbelt highway, and said the city would have worked with any company seeking to build a headquarters there — a point on which Hardy concurred. http://www.crainscleveland.com/akron-news/akron-tried-keep-myers-industries-isnt-sure-it-had-chance
