  4. Ohio gambling take up 2 percent in first half of 2018 By Jon Chavez | BLADE BUSINESS WRITER Published on July 10, 2018 The Jack Cleveland Casino, owned by Jack Entertainment, had revenues of $16.4 million last month, an increase of 9.4 percent. For the first half of 2018 the Cleveland property, which had been going through extensive remodeling, had revenues totaling $102.1 million, an increase of 2.6 percent. http://www.toledoblade.com/business/2018/07/10/Ohio-gambling-revenues-up-2-percent-in-first-half-of-2018.html
  5. Your last paragraph is very interesting and never heard anyone bring this up before. For all the reasons you mentioned makes the most sense for selling for me so far. If sold what do others believe are the chances for the Cleveland casino getting an upgrade? If not phase II, any type of upgrade or do you feel the buyer will keep as is? I feel the best chance was with Gilbert that had other stakes with Cleveland than an outside buyer that focuses mostly on gambling nationally or globally sadly. Very unlikely. Casinos aren't doing well overall, and I think they underestimated the competition from other regional casinos that were built soon after the Cleveland one. Interesting, this just came out: Ohio casino, racino gambling revenue up 8 percent in August; all 3 in Cleveland area post gains JACK Cleveland Casino had its best August since 2014 when the facility was known as the Horseshoe. https://www.cleveland.com/casino/index.ssf/2018/09/ohio_casino_racino_gambling_re_1.html

  7. Ha, yes, there is a Missing Mountain and Missing Falls. Including the two future breweries in Canal Place, that's four breweries that will have opened in and around downtown Akron is a short amount of time. Akronym Brewing and Lock 15 Brewing both recently opened. Yup, waiting to see on R. Shea at Canal Place though.
  8. This is unfortunate, but not unexpected. The new location was very badly designed. The layout was not conducive to a flowing, pleasant shopping experience and the remodel looked cheap. The original location was a wonderful place. Akron has a very impressive selection of grocers for it's size, so I think there are still plenty of options. I'm actually surprised Earth Fare in Fairlawn is doing as well as it is. Agree 100% and their selection of products was not what made them attractive in the first place. Earth Fare is great. Good prices on a lot of things.

  10. BW3 was before my time in Kent. Besides there wasn't much south of Erie Street in the 1980s anyway, except an old commercial district. Useless fact, the guys who started BW3's met at Kent State. But it was not where the first location was opened. That was OSU.
  11. West Point Market calling it quits after 82 years in the Akron area Published: September 5, 2018 - 7:31 PM | Updated: September 5, 2018 - 11:22 PM By Katie Byard In the end, West Point Market’s locally famous Killer Brownies and efforts to shore up the venerable family-owned grocery couldn’t save it. A business turnaround specialist advised “it’s probably best just to stop and liquidate,” owner Rick Vernon said late Wednesday afternoon. https://www.ohio.com/akron/news/local/west-point-market-calling-it-quits-after-82-years-in-the-akron-area
  12. The old BW's location. Spent some time in there. Didn't the same architect try to use dark brick on the new project in Ohio City which ended up being changed?
  13. Missing Falls Brewery aims for October opening in Akron Published: September 4, 2018 - 8:56 AM By Rick Armon Missing Falls Brewery has received its state brewing permit and is shooting to open in October. The Akron brewpub, 540 S. Main St., is located in the giant, red brick Canal Place complex downtown — and in the same building that will house the future R. Shea Brewing Co. production brewery and restaurant. https://www.ohio.com/akron/pages/beer/missing-falls-brewery-aims-for-october-opening-in-akron
  14. With the election in a few months, everything's on hold down there. There will always be an impending election with a project of this size.
  15. The malls are no longer there though. They are pieces of land that were marketed as industrial parks. Westland Mall is basically in the same position, though. https://www.columbusunderground.com/westland-mall-headed-to-100-vacancy-with-closure-of-sears https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westland_Mall_(Columbus,_Ohio) For all intents and purposes, it's no longer there. The occasional big event doesn't really mean the property is still active in any ongoing sense. Westland might not be quite as dead as Rolling Acres, but it's a lot closer to Rolling Acres than to Chapel Hill. Though of course Chapel Hill seems likely to get to the point of Westland and then Rolling Acres rather than the reverse; I certainly can't think of anything that would reverse its decline as a retail destination at this point. Is it still going to be referred to as Rolling Acres now that the mall isn't there?
  16. Akron-Canton Airport starts construction on new gate area Updated Aug 28, 1:20 PM; Posted Aug 28, 9:30 AM By Susan Glaser, The Plain Dealer GREEN, Ohio - The Akron-Canton Airport broke ground this morning on a $34 million gate modernization project, the final piece in a 10-year capital improvement plan. The project will decrease the number of gates at the airport from 11 to nine, a reflection of declining passenger numbers at Akron-Canton in recent years. https://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2018/08/akron-canton_airport_starts_co.html#incart_river_index
  17. Chapel Hill is going to be very tough because it's an island surrounded by fairly successful businesses (big box and fast food and fast casual). If someone's got $100 million or more to drop it would be perfect for a live / work / shopping lifestyle center. Minus the additional incredible amount of traffic it would produce.

  19. I've had the beer at some events and it's good and I've read some really good things about the food! The Spotted Owl looks to expand to Akron Updated Aug 28, 2:14 PM; Posted Aug 28, 2:13 PM By Marc Bona, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio - Will Hollingsworth has confirmed the rumor that The Spotted Owl is expanding south to Akron. Hollingsworth wouldn't discuss the specific location but said he is "very close to a deal" that should be finalized this week. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2018/08/the_spotted_owl_looks_to_expan.html#incart_river_index
  20. Former Rolling Acres site is likely spot for Amazon August 26, 2018 04:00 AM UPDATED An hour ago Stan Bullard [email protected] Online retail juggernaut Amazon looks to be ordering up the city-owned former Rolling Acres Mall site on Romig Road in Akron for another large distribution center, its fourth, in Northeast Ohio. City officials have stayed mum publicly as to the developer's identity — beyond the cryptic, Delaware-based Akron Romig Road LLC — as Akron City Council in July adopted legislation for the project. Council members authorized the use of tax increment financing to fund public improvements associated with a 600,000-square-foot warehouse on the site. The measure also authorized the sale of the site to the firm. http://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/former-rolling-acres-site-likely-spot-amazon
  21. New construction team to lead HOF Village effort By Alison Matas GateHouse Media Ohio Posted Aug 23, 2018 at 7:01 PM “Everybody’s worried about it,” he said. “There’s a lot of naysayers out there, and there always has been since we started.” The bricks-and-mortar element of the Village stalled for almost a year — from the end of 2017 until late summer of this year — while developers secured a bridge loan to pay contractors and reorganized the leadership of the development team. http://www.cantonrep.com/news/20180823/new-construction-team-to-lead-hof-village-effort
