WM, formerly known as Waste Management, is seeking a conditional-use permit to construct the WM Akron Eco-Center at 1400 E. Portage County unveils new emergency command center Diane Smith Ravenna Record-Courier RAVENNA TWP. − The Portage County Emergency Management Agency unveiled its new command center, which it said it hopes it never will need to use for a large-scale emergency. The EMA hosted an open house Tuesday at the new facility, 2978 State Route 59 in Ravenna Township. The building cost $4,458,469, according to Shannon Kautzman, director of internal services. Construction, which came in under budget, was funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act.   12. The 20' is not the issue. They need that just to get cars in and out of the garages. The question is why do they need the access drive off of 5th St.? A truck would not be able to make that 90 degree turn onto Jefferson, nor would they want to back out onto 5th.

Akron looking to sell CitiCenter building September 12, 2024 By Eric Poston Also during the meeting, Council held several public hearings regarding conditional use permits, including to change the parking space requirements for the South Plaza Shopping Center on East Waterloo Road. Currently the zoning code requires one parking space per 200- square-feet of retail space and the conditional use will reduce the requirement to 250-square- feet-per-one-parking space. City officials said plaza officials plan to construct a new restaurant in the northwest corner of the property where the former Paparoni’s Pizza building currently stands. With the construction of the restaurant, the number of parking spaces in the plaza will be reduced from 883 to 773.   22. Community tours new Green Middle School September 05, 2024 By Eric Poston GREEN -— The community had an opportunity to tour the new Green Middle School during a walk-through Aug. 30. Attendees were also able to sign a wall in the school during the construction tours. The new 187,238-square-foot building will include grades six through eight and will include natural daylighting, improved technology, enhanced security, a library/media center, band and choir room and arts, music and STEM labs. Sixth-grade classrooms will be on the first floor with seventh- and eighth-grade rooms on the second floor. The district is also partnering with the City of Green for the construction of the Green Community Courts building, which will be connected to the middle school. The recreation center will include indoor court space, a turf practice field, walking path and studio space. The middle school is expected to be complete for the 2025-26 school year. Final phases of work including the demolition of the existing middle school and Green Intermediate School and installing the final parking lots and driveways. The 14-screen theater, which opened in the 1990s, closed in June 2023. Following the closure, Serra Auto Park purchased the approximately 1.2-acre property in January. Local police and fire departments including the Green Fire Department have used the building for training exercises. Tom Flory, managing partner for Serra Auto Park, said the company purchased the property with hopes to expand its brands.
