  4. Stark State College to build Akron campus at Perkins Street and Route 8 By Rick Armon Beacon Journal staff writer Stark State College will build its new Akron campus on 11 acres of vacant, city-owned property along Perkins Street near state Route 8 just northeast of downtown. The Jackson Township-based school — along with city, Summit County and business leaders — announced the location Thursday morning during a news conference at the John S. Knight Convention Center downtown. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/stark-state-college-to-build-akron-campus-at-perkins-street-and-route-8-1.682501
  5. That is a total disappointment. I kind of feel Akron was duped. I believe the original plans called for 40,000 sf. I had actually kind of originally expected it to be a Whole Foods 365. Wallhaven doesn't seem like quite the place for a full-fledged Whole Paycheck, especially with Mustard Seed and Earth Fare both not far away. I heard that from someone else too and I reminded them that West Point was there before. I guess they could be looked at a little differently, but West Point was not cheap either.
  6. Akron Whole Foods plans downsized; grocery giant now plans one of its lower-cost, 365 by Whole Foods groceries By Katie Byard Beacon Journal staff writer Published: May 5, 2016 - 08:33 PM | Updated: May 6, 2016 - 11:05 AM Whole Foods — often referred to as “Whole Paycheck” — is set to open the more affordable store in spring 2017 on West Market Street. That’s the site of the former West Point Market property that was originally going to be a traditional Whole Foods. At 30,000 square feet, it will be 10,000 square feet smaller than a traditional Whole Foods. But the smaller, 365 model will be about 6,000 square-feet larger than the now-razed West Point. http://www.ohio.com/business/akron-whole-foods-plans-downsized-grocery-giant-now-plans-one-of-its-lower-cost-365-by-whole-foods-groceries-1.680961#
  7. PNC wants its name in lights on downtown Akron building By Betty Lin-Fisher Beacon Journal business writer Published: May 4, 2016 - 05:43 PM PNC Bank wants people to look to the Akron skyline and think of the bank. The Pittsburgh-based bank or its predecessors — the bank bought National City in 2008 — have had a downtown Akron presence for 47 years. Yet, while other tall buildings in downtown’s skyline including FirstMerit Bank and FirstEnergy Corp. have their names emblazoned on their buildings, PNC’s 23-story, dark brown building has had no branding on top. It has some limited signage at street level. http://www.ohio.com/business/pnc-wants-its-name-in-lights-on-downtown-akron-building-1.680630#
  8. And also in the Montrose area, Bomba Tacos & Rum, which is part of the Beachwood-based Paladar Restaurant Group, is set to open May 13 in the former Hudson’s at Cleveland-Massillon Road and state Route 18 in Copley Township. 9. Toyota, Volvo of Warren Building $4.5M Showroom By Josh Medore | April 28, 2016 NILES, Ohio – Even with trees standing on the future home of Toyota and Volvo of Warren, co-owner Jim Whetstone envisions a building that serves as more than just a car dealership for Niles. In the showroom, customers would find a 1,000-square-foot lounge with televisions, computers, a snack bar and a coffee bar. They could drop off their cars for service or pick up a delivery indoors, never setting foot outside. http://businessjournaldaily.com/toyota-volvo-of-warren-begin-work-on-new-building/
  10. Reopening Front Street could be a business boon for Cuyahoga Falls April 24, 2016 Updated a day ago By JENNIFER CONN t’s been nearly 40 years since residents could drive down Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls, park their cars and walk into a business. Back then, restaurants, hardware stores, drugstores, dry cleaners and camera shops were among the establishments lining the blocks running north from Broad Boulevard, edging the Cuyahoga River. But after 1978, when Front Street was converted to a pedestrian mall, most of those businesses eventually closed or moved. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20160424/NEWS/160419862/reopening-front-street-could-be-a-business-boon-for-cuyahoga-falls#utm_medium=email&utm_source=ccl-akronmorning&utm_campaign=ccl-akronmorning-20160426
  11. It's underway! $898 Million Energy Plant First of Three for Region By Dan O'Brien | April 27, 2016 CARROLLTON, Ohio – Were it a year ago, the vantage point where Michael Murphy stands would be a panoramic view of a lush soybean field nestled into the quiet heart of Carroll County. Today, as Murphy surveys the view from atop a hillside just off state Route 9, that soybean field is long gone. In its place is a giant worksite filled with more than 200 tradesmen clad in fluorescent green vests, scores of earth-moving equipment, mountains of dirt and gravel, and the foundation of what by the fall of 2017 will be an $899 million electricity generation plant. http://businessjournaldaily.com/carroll-county-energy-plant-first-of-three-for-region/

  13. Construction begins at Akron's White Pond Office Park April 20, 2016 Updated 11 hours ago By Dan Shingler The city of Akron planted the first seeds of occupancy at its 76-acre White Pond Office Park on Wednesday, April 20, as the accounting firm BCG & Co. and Cedarwood Development broke ground on what they said will be a 34,500-square-foot building when it’s completed later this year. The city won’t get any new employees right away; BCG has been based in Akron’s Merriman Valley since it was formed in 1986 and is moving. It has grown from six employees to more than 120 along the way, firm co-founder and managing director Dave Brockman told a crowd of media and well-wishers that included Mayor Dan Horrigan and other cabinet-level city officials. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20160420/NEWS/160429970/construction-begins-at-akrons-white-pond-office-park#utm_medium=email&utm_source=ccl-akronmorning&utm_campaign=ccl-akronmorning-20160421

  16. Akron sees no future for Rubber Bowl, would like it torn down By Rick Armon Beacon Journal staff writer Published: April 16, 2016 - 08:17 PM Nearly three years after a Canton company bought the Rubber Bowl with grandiose plans to breathe new life into it, the former University of Akron football stadium remains vacant and decaying. Graffiti dots the inside walls. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/akron-sees-no-future-for-rubber-bowl-would-like-it-torn-down-1.676518# Vacant Akron block south of downtown is listed for $4.25 million By Katie Byard Beacon Journal business writer Published: April 15, 2016 - 08:15 PM About 10 acres of vacant land bounded by busy Akron streets — near where a new highway interchange is being built — is on the market, with a price tag of $4.25 million. Akron’s iconic West Point Market reveals Fairlawn site of its new flagship store; hopes to open in several months By Katie Byard Beacon Journal staff writer The secret is out of the grocery bag. West Point Market is finally going public with the location of its new store in Fairlawn: the vacant shopping center at 33 Shiawassee Ave. The site — one building off West Market Street — is where the iconic Akron specialty grocery plans to reinvent itself, after selling its old site on West Market in Akron to make way for a Whole Foods grocery. The Shiawassee location is about two miles west of the old store, which closed at the end of last year. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/akron-s-iconic-west-point-market-reveals-fairlawn-site-of-its-new-flagship-store-hopes-to-open-in-several-months-1.674678
  18. Pro Football Hall of Fame celebrates initial milestone in $500 million village project By Jim Mackinnon Beacon Journal business writer Nothing beats a nice warm winter to quicken the pace of Ohio’s most visible construction project, the building of the $500 million Hall of Fame Village at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. 19. Plans for Menards store in Cuyahoga Falls delayed again By Paula Schleis Beacon Journal staff writer This week, the New Philadelphia Times-Reporter reported plans for a Menards store there have been put on hold, and used a quote from a company spokesperson that is almost word for word a quote that appeared in a Missouri newspaper in 2012. “We are a family-owned business and with the Obama Administration scaring the dickens out of all family businesses in the USA at present and with no certainty if the next administration will be any better, we have decided not to risk expansion until things are more settled,” Menard Inc. spokesperson Jessie O’Mara told the Times-Reporter this week. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/plans-for-menards-store-in-cuyahoga-falls-delayed-again-1.673981
  20. So what is / are "Residential Incubator(s)"? I was thinking "micro" apts., but those are listed on the level with the blue rooms.
  21. Then why is UA in the Akron real estate market?
  22. Could be, but why would one close suddenly and not the others? Especially if franchised. That was definitely not the only one to abruptly close, just the only one we have heard of in this area.
  23. Interesting that no one cares if you don't want a bunch of "Johnny manziel types" (ie. Bro's, frat boys, partiers) but if someone says I don't want all those low class bums on public square everyone explodes and says you need to be more 'tolerant', 'accepting' or "this is a city stay in the burbs if you dont like it". I can totally see why someone wouldn't want manziel types all over but if were gonna be PC lets not be hypocritical. One group is bothering the public, the other group isn't bothering the public... Oh? and which is which?
  24. 595 s.f. may be big for NYC or San Fran. This project is on the edge of Downtown Cleveland....Ohio.
  25. I don't think the UofA is in the market to host a brew pub.
