Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
Makes total sense. That place is a sleeping giant given the location and all the underused land. And now that NIMBY woman is gone too, so the city doesn't have an excuse to wimp out like it did with the Telesis proposal along the rapid tracks. Here's an example. This company is buying up property in Duck Island to provide green housing: http://www.bergesllc.com/ Take a look at the "Two-Low-Energy-Houses" presentation. Interesting, I wonder what the ROI is on this, because it's not cheap to construct like that. Page 17 I think they have a little terminology mistake. They note an "air-barrier" below their slab insulation. I assume they mean vapor barrier. Not too much wind below your basement. Graywater system is nice, I wouldn't want the heating/cooling system they have though. VRF (variable refrigerant flow)

Better not be or some sign maker has to go back to spelling class! Are you thinking the "h" isn't there in "The"? Honestly, I think it's just because it's hard to read. At least from the angle in the picture.

Demolition began last week with interior work; walls are coming down this week. Hoover Sideliners, the high school booster club, plans to collect the bricks and sell them to raise funds for athletic programs. The demolition site is too dangerous to allow the public to gather bricks, district Business Manager Todd Henne said. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/north-canton-demolishes-former-nocahi-1.440905

Photos look stock, and yes, one could associate the Laurel Wreath on their logo with the Greek culture as well. Menu does not impress me. Looks like one of those cheap Italian chains like Fazoli's. There used to be one in Chapel Hill and also one called East Side Mario's. Neither of which made it.

There is a reason there is not a B Spot Downtown. I assume it's the "suburban allure" of driving your car to it and parking in the lot outside of the strip mall. It seems to be a no-brainer to me to put one Downtown, but maybe they don't want the competition.

Nuevo posted some pictures on 10/16 on their Facebook page . They still have a long way to go. I don't think they will be open by Thanksgiving, but they could be open in December. The new place next to House of Hunan is going to be called Pronto's Cibo Italiano Restaurant. I have not seen anything about any dates for it yet.

Posted by John Deike (Editor) , May 07, 2013 at 06:22 PM Good news is, several new businesses have either signed on, or are close to finalizing deals with developer Stark Enterprises for the proposed Portage Crossing marketplace. Bad news is, Michael Symon's B Spot and Panera Bread might be walking away from the project. At Monday night's Cuyahoga Falls City Council meeting, Stark Enterprises COO Steve Rubin offered a glimpse at the site plan, saying Best Cuts, Cinemark, Fashion Nails, Giant Eagle and Pet Supplies Plus had officially signed onto the project. http://cuyahogafalls.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/new-portage-crossing-tenants-announced-symon-s-b-spotfc011babd0 Looks like Burger Fi will take the place of B Spot. AUDIO Cuyahoga Falls Entertainment District Featured Written by Chris Keppler A long-planned development in Cuyahoga Falls could go beyond retail stores mixed with a couple of restaurants. City Development Director Sue Truby says Stark Enterprises has filed a Community Entertainment District application for the entire 26-acre Portage Crossing development. That does not mean, according to Truby, that Portage Crossing will be full of bars. She says the number of licenses is still limited, but the entertainment district designation also opens the door to museums, art houses, movie theaters or even a sports facility. Truby says the city is pushing Stark Enterprises to bring in a larger-scale restaurant to the development. http://www.akronnewsnow.com/news/local/item/126191-audio-cuyahoga-falls-entertainment-district

For Beachland to say the construction is the only result of their attendance lag is irresponsible. The street is a real mess and I don't see why the Beachland wouldn't also be hurt like the other businesses across the board. Because, I would assume, most of the other businesses serve the local community. The sausage shop for example, I'm not going to drive from Akron to get sausage from there, but I have driven to that area to see a show.
