Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Actually it was: http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2012/10/did_csu_and_neomed_play_it_too.html For some reason people have a notion in their head that an initial design concept is a final product. The University of Akron just completed a revised Master Plan which in fact does include greening through the center of campus. They also do not have a major thoroughfare going through the middle of their campus. In fact, they eliminated streets going through parts of their campus some years back. Either way, it's a bad comparison.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
The building design is really not that bad considering it's Pelli. I recall most people on this board thinking it was the best proposal during the short list. Take a look at Pelli's portfolio and it fits in with the rest of their work. ...and if you think this is bad, wait until a design is released for the Convention Center Hotel.

Akron: Random Development and News
Acme has 17 stores in Greater Akron and Giant Eagle has nearly that many as well. Location wise, I think it would fit best in Fairlawn / Montrose which already has the following: Marc's, Giant Eagle, Acme, Earth Fare, Wal-Mart (new location in a couple of years), World Market As audidave stated, not much room left for competition.

From their reaction I assume the drive to the studio parking lot and leave to head back the suburbs at the end of the day. That's especially embarrassing for Wayne, a know figure in Cleveland. Cue Charles Barkley:

APS deems King CLC work ‘urgent necessity’ 8/15/2013 - West Side Leader By Becky Tompkins The Akron Public Schools (APS) can now again seek bids for work to complete the King Community Learning Center (CLC), thanks to a vote by the Board of Education approving a resolution to proceed under urgent necessity. The vote at the board’s Aug. 12 meeting enables the APS to dispense with the required competitive bidding process. This will permit the district to proceed with soliciting proposals for the work without having to take the time to advertise, said Paul Flesher, APS director of facility planning and capital improvements. http://akron.com/akron-ohio-education-news.asp?aID=20123

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Correct, which is why I'm guessing the location on the site has changed once the Architect's had a chance to work with CSU and their overall goals. This isn't anything greatly new. See their 2010 Master Plan below. The building shape at that time was simply a place holder. I guess at least the shape touched the sidewalk in spots on three sides.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
Ha, Aldi's takes offense to that. They are extended stay hotels. There is on in Green that can be seen from the highway and their sign has and LED display with the actually price per week on it that can change. Either they changed their model or were not allowed to use it at this location.

Cuyahoga Falls: Development and News

It just comes down to dollars. The dorms are done by private developers, ie; more building space, more rentable space, academic buildings aren't as important on the total square footage, especially when dealing with State funded projects it comes down to what they can afford to build and what they actually need. I wouldn't count on it. Stantec is the local firm working with Pelli Clarke Pelli, the Design Architect.

Nope, usually they are not going to release those types of things, unless there is some investigative journalism going on. I doubt that will happen in Akron. Knight Foundation would not release that info.

Rocksino project on schedule for December opening By Rick Armon Beacon Journal staff writer Published: August 11, 2013 - 11:18 PM NORTHFIELD: The interior of the new Hard Rock racino doesn’t look much like a gambling and music venue — at least right now amid construction. Wires hang from the ceiling. Dirt and materials cover the concrete floor. Sparkling steel studs are everywhere, creating a huge, shiny metal skeleton upon which the state’s newest gambling attraction will be built. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/rocksino-project-on-schedule-for-december-opening-1.420452

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
As long as the demand for downtown living continues at the current pace, it wouldn't be a problem unless they charged too much. Im going to disagree, since downtown is still not truely 24/7 and "location" based amenities, within 5 blocks aren't there. However, this speculation and we've taken the thread off topic. Thus why I said IF the demand continues, that when amenities follow.

Architect Steven Kordalski said he expected the new hotel to be a compelling piece of architecture “as opposed to the Medical Mart, [Global Center for Health Innovation] which is non-compelling.” Fair enough, I'm sure he can say that from his amazing portfolio: http://kordalskiarchitects.com/projects/high-pointe-corporate-park/index.html whoops....
