  2. Packed house views competition for new Kent State building (with poll) By Thomas Gallick | Staff Writer Published: January 18, 2013 4:00AM Students, faculty and community members filled Cartwright Hall with excited, yet academic debate Thursday night after four potential designs for the new Kent State University College of Architecture and Environmental Design building were unveiled following an international contest. That reaction was fitting, considering Kent State officials wanted the process to act as an educational opportunity for architecture students and local residents. Four finalists presented their designs for the estimated $40 million project, which will be located between South Lincoln and South Willow streets on the school’s Esplanade walkway, to a crowd of about 800. http://www.recordpub.com/news%20local/2013/01/18/packed-house-views-competition-for-new-ksu-building.modal Richard L. 3. Kent City Council continues talks about new police station By Marchae Grair Ohio.com correspondent “The land was turned over to the city at no cost,” Kuhar said, citing cost and the amount of land at the Mogadore lot as the primary reasons for his motion for the location. He said the land was tested and cleared for all environmental issues, so the cost would also be less than areas that needed heavier inspection. The consideration will stand, following a passing motion of 7-2, with Roger Sidoti and Heidi Shaffer dissenting. Shaffer believes the location at 800 Mogadore Road should be strictly reserved for industrial buildings or other businesses that will bring more jobs to Kent. http://kent.ohio.com/news/kent-city-council-continues-talks-about-new-police-station-1.365806

  5. q & a: kevin robinette, architect on imperial ave. memorial project Douglas J. Guth | Thursday, January 17, 2013 It's been more than three years since the bodies of 11 women were discovered at 12205 Imperial Avenue in Cleveland. The home of convicted serial killer Anthony Sowell has since been demolished, but the empty lot where the property stood is a grim and ugly reminder of the violence that took place there. Over the past year, the Imperial Coalition, a grassroots task force led by religious, city and community leaders, has been working with residents and relatives of victims on ways to reclaim the neighborhood. Talk has centered around the possibility of designing and building an "exterior space" at the Imperial Avenue parcel, an effort assisted by the Cleveland chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/features/kevinrobinette011713.aspx

  18. Could not agree more. I went there twice and it wasn't worth going back. I've lived, what, 3 blocks from the PS Bricco for almost 5 years and have only ever been once? I've been working in Akron for a year and a half and have been to the downtown Akron Bricco multiple times. It's not that it's that good - it really just is one of the better lunch dining options there! To state again, it's not a chef inspired restaurant, putting that aside, it is good.

  20. It's not only the food, I don't think the space has any character. It is very popular in Akron, but Akron just got their first "true chef" restaurant with DBA (Dante Bocuzzi Akron). Akron doesn't have near the culinary scene of Cleveland, but really, not many cities in the country do. Hoperatives: Rock Bottom changes brewers By Rick Armon Published: January 9, 2013 rockbottomHoperatives, the informative beer blog that covers the Cincinnati area, reports that Rock Bottom Cincinnati's award-winning brewer Mitchell Dougherty has left the company to take over Eight Ball Brewing, a new operation being set up at The Party Source in Bellevue, Ky., across the Ohio River from downtown Cincinnati. The website also says Rock Bottom has already found its new brewer: Gerry OConnell, who was the head brewer at the Cleveland ChopHouse until it shut down last week. The move amounts to a transfer for OConnell because the ChopHouse and Rock Bottom brands are both owned by CraftWorks Restaurants & Breweries. 21. Wow, that operating expenses "omission" is huge. If that is in fact true, they really tried to slip one by. They even included it in their calcs of the Geis proposal, but left it out of theirs. That's just shady and may have hurt them for anything in the future.
