  1. They may fly private out of Lunken for domestic flights, but if they have a lot of international flights they wouldn't be flying out of there. And I'm sure they require a lot of international flights. Even domestically, Chiquita employees and execs use Delta primarily. If you follow Chiquita's CEO on Twitter, he talks openly about his travel itineraries and tweets in flight via Delta's wifi quite often.
  2. Probably not the best place to discuss this, but that thought came into my mind as well. If AA merges, it will almost certainly be with US or jetBlue; HOWEVER, CLT is well position to still be a hub even with integration for a multitude of reasons.
  3. Kasich: Ohio's perks only for companies that want to be here http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2011/11/29/kasich-ohios-perks-only-for.html?ed=2011-11-29&s=article_du&ana=e_du_pub “The company has issues beyond what incentives can address," Kasich said in a prepared statement. "When it’s a priority to make sure incentive packages begin returning an investment for taxpayers as quickly as possible, we’re not going to be irresponsible and give away the store to try and keep a company that fundamentally doesn’t want to be here or which has already made up its mind to leave." I don't like the guy, but he makes a good point.
  4. The unfortunate thing is that Charlotte is already years ahead of Cincinnati in all the things you mentioned, especially considering how long it can take for things to get accomplished in Ohio and especially Southern Ohio. We are merely playing catch up at this point. And unfortunately I think weather counts more than one would think...
  5. I have a feeling it was no coincidence that announcement was made today....
  6. Bingo. The majority of Chiquita's ops are in South & Central America an Europe. CVG has exactly one flight to Europe, Paris, which still requires a connection there to get people to Chiquita's European headquarters in Switzerland. There are zero direct flights from CVG to South & Central America. US Air's hub at CLT will fill all these gaps nicely.
  7. Delta adding flights at CVG http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20111129/BIZ01/311290020/Delta-adding-flights-CVG?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE "Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines will add flights and air service at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in early 2012 in response to requests from the local business community, the airport announced today." Kind of a weak announcement though...nothing out of the ordinary, these additions will just make connections easier for flights that were once direct from CVG... Also, hilarious timing on this announcement from Delta considering its the same day Chiquita will leave Cincy for LACK of flights!
  8. US Airways does...they now have a new major corporate client with millions of dollars in premium business travel around the globe...
  9. It was only a matter of time. Regardless of if the city gave them a good incentive package to stay or not, CVG simply does not support their travel needs any longer and that's the bottom line. I think this should be fair warning to city leaders to be as aggressive as possible with maintaining and growing service at CVG. The only reason we even have the flights we do have right now (ie. CVG-CDG) is because of the robust business community here.
  10. The Hyatt Regency here in downtown Cincinnati has the same issues and I think is much, much more dated than the Cleveland location and their occupancy is typically quite high to my understanding. Not sure what occupancy is like at the Arcade...
  11. and to take it a step further, is CVG the other inter-Ohio destination that CO serves? Or are there flights to DAY and CMH as well? DL has cut CVG-CMH and CVG-DAY already.
  12. I was actually kind of surprised to hear Delta was cutting this route. Everytime I flew it there seemed to be lots of Cincy bound Cleveland business people just going down for a day trip or whatever. I mean, the drive is essentially 5 hours with traffic so there is a market for flights, BUT I'm sure Delta was using this primarily for feeder traffic. All those people can be just as easily served by ATL and DTW now though probably.
  13. It looks like this Sunday, November 6, 2011 is the end of Delta's CLE-CVG route. This might be a seasonal change but I doubt it because it's always been year round before and DL is shrinking the CVG hub so there are not as many connections for CLE originating pax to utilize anyways. We are seeing larger, mainline A/C on CLE-ATL now however. Sunday's final flight will be operated with a dual-class CR7 instead of the usual 50-seat CRJ/ERJ.
  14. hearing good things about Abagail Street so far from people that went yesterday for their opening. the first Yelp reviews are up too for a rundown of what to expect: http://www.yelp.com/biz/abigail-street-cincinnati
  15. I can't understand the need (or market feasibility) of MORE sandwich places. I was really hoping that this development would start to fill the gaps of services and retail that the area sorely lacks and would support, ie. dry cleaning, cheap clothing (H&M, Old Navy), home goods, health & beauty (GNC, Sephora, Ulta), etc etc. It was also reported awhile back that Mellow Mushroom was in, what happened to that? Changed their mind due to Adriatico's moving across the street now?
  16. Three more tenants sign on at U Square @ the Loop http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2011/10/31/three-more-tenants-sign-on-at-u.html?ed=2011-10-31&s=article_du&ana=e_du_pub "Great Clips, DiBella’s Old Fashioned Submarines and Firehouse Subs will all be opening locations at the $70 million U Square @ the Loop mixed-use development near the University of Cincinnati. The project is a joint venture between Al Neyer and Towne Properties LLC. SmashBurger, Noodles & Co., Qdoba and a hat store called Lids are four of the 11 retailers that have signed intent letters to fill slots in the 80,300 square feet of retail planned at U Square."

Yeah I think you might be correct. Realistically I'd be willing to get up into the $650 area for a place that really fits my needs well, but I just threw out $550 since that's what it seems like alot of things on CL are listed for...

I'm getting ready to graduate from UC in December and believe I will be entertaining some job offers in the Cin-NKY area in the coming weeks. If I do stay here, I'd like to leave Clifton and will be exploring OTR very heavily for rental options, which my understanding are few and far between since this area is not only affordable but also quite hot right now... So where and how should I start looking? Does anyone have any contacts I might utilize? Basically I will be looking for a 1 bedroom, $400-$550 tops, that is recently updated (modern amenities) and offers good access to Findlay Mkt/Main St/Gateway Dst. Any/all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  19. This project has been, by and far, one of the most over-hyped and under-delivered projects in the city since I moved to Cincinnati years ago. There are plenty of other developments that have been conceived and actually built in the time that this one has been stalled. It's incredibly frustrating because this piece of land sits in one of the most crucial, heavily-trafficked areas for UC but is a sad reminder of how much work Uptown still needs.

yes! epicness! I listen to TATW every week without fail. absolutely wonderful music.
  21. Downtown is dead. well, per the Enquirer, this article would imply so, yes.
  22. Pics of the nearly completed Abagail Street next to Senate. looks absolutely awesome! http://www.flickr.com/photos/anadequatenovel/sets/72157627893582220/with/6244482484/
  23. here is what's going into the old Lodge space... PLAY venue coming to 7th street "Seth Wiener, the owner of several local entertainment businesses, will open a live music venue in the 6,700-square-foot space formerly occupied by Lodge Bar on Seventh Street. Lodge closed earlier this year after about four years in business." http://cincinnati.com/blogs/developingnow/2011/10/14/play-venue-coming-to-7th-street/
  24. I heard the the hold-up on the demolition is Rent-A-Center unwilling to leave? Anyone have any details on this? If this is the case, I'm assuming they just have to wait until their lease ends rather than kicking them out early?
  25. My understanding is that Spicy Pickle corporate wanted to switch to more of a traditional fast food model using more frozen and pre-made food vs. made fresh to order.....the owner was not down with this and opted to exit the franchise. Also, the chain never really grew enough in the midwest to have any name recognition to justify the franchise fees. Most people thought it was a local business anyways because it was the only one in Ohio.
