  1. anyone know what's up with cue in OTR? Have they folded already? Drove by when I was in town this weekend, and the buildinglooked deserted and there was paper over the windows...but their sign was still up...
  2. Metropolis Nightclub on the west bank of the flats will close and do a complete remodel. The club will reopen with new decor and a new name.
  3. wow, let me be the first to say...KNOCK THAT SHIZ DOWN NOW! Short Vine is a MESS and hardly any students use it...it's all shady mobile phone shops and "urban wear" stores. Between this, the Hampton Inn on the corner of vine, and the Calhoun-McMillian project, there could be ALOT going on in this area in the next few years. Really exciting!
  4. Yes, this is really interesting. The 'for sale' signs are still up on the fence though?? Does anyone know whats up?
  5. I had to deal with Wendy's management a few times over the phone to set up a student group function and let me say...perhaps some of the most unprofessional people I have dealt with. Their current GM has no idea what is going on at her restaurant, and when I called to ask questions about setting up this event she would cut me off mid sentence and basically told me I was stupid. I've also had absurdly long waits for simple orders from the dollar menu and gotten downright inedible food. That place is such a mess...shame too because they have an eager student audience with their wallets wide open.
  6. Well let me start off by saying welcome home to Ohio and I'm sure you'll find our cost of living (or lack thereof) wonderful! I really don't think you can go wrong with either of those locations. I think Ohio City might be a bit rougher around the edges, but they are so close that I would be more concerned about finding a property that you really like. Ohio City has less of a neighborhood feeling than Tremont IMO, but has great amenities such as a good bar scene, rapid red line stop, and the West Side Market! I'd also encourage you to look not only at Ohio City and Tremont, but also Cleveland Heights (Coventry area) and Lakewood (Clifton area), both of which might be a bit more suburb-ish, but are both very, very gay friendly and very safe. They are also very accessible to RTA, although not 2 mins from DT like Ohio City and Tremont.
  7. Hey All, I am in Cincinnati and I'm looking for places to book a retreat for my student group this coming fall. We'd have probably 20-30 people that would need accommodations in the cabin(s). We do not want to pitch any tents. Nothing over 5 hours from Cincinnati. We'd definitely consider out of state (KY, IN, TN, WV, etc,) so shoot me some ideas! We'd like something with stuff to do around it, perhaps some hiking or a lake, or something like that. Thanks!
  8. Their first Cincinnati location will be under UPA in Uptown; however, part of their expansion plans are to take a city that meets their demographic and smatter it with locations, so I suppose a UC and OTR location would not be out of the question.

I know this is really creepy, but there is this forum I found TOTALLY by accident while researching prostitution concentrations in Cincinnati (my boyfriend lives very close to McMicken in north OTR) that is a disucssion within the community of people who actively patronize streetwalkers in Cincinnati. Really good info about locations, prices, law enforcement (and avoiding them) etc. REALLY interesting to read, but definitely creepy because these are all places I pas by on a regular basis. NSFW obviously. http://www.usasexguide.info/forum/showthread.php?t=3979&page=1&pp=15
  11. Looks like a charter service. Vague is not the word. Sketchy is! dun-dun-dun: http://ohiostadiums.net/air/ anyone care to make some phone calls??? May 4th is really soon....
  12. I did not live in Cincinnati 5 years ago so I was unaware of how bad it was. I'm glad those days are over with. That being said, it's still pretty bad IMO. Bad enough that I would probably not yet buy a property in OTR, and like I said, I'm very comfortable with urban living. What I think this means is that the loitering that is there is pretty unacceptable to alot of people. If you are a YP moving from an area like West Chester or Mason, or even Clifton, riff raff on your street at all hours of the day and night is going to be a big turn off. Plain and simple.
  13. Agreed. 3CDC and other developers can pour however much money they want into OTR but until a certain segment of the population stops using every corner, storefront, step and bench into their personal loitering space, we're not getting all the way there. Somebody made some comment on the Enquirer board about how its only safe to walk south from the Gateway district. I consider myself a a person thats pretty comfortable with urban areas, but I would absolutely agree. The northen part of Vine is pretty scary as far as the loitering goes, especially at night. A few weeks ago I had to actually stop my car because of some guys having a conversation in the middle of the street. wtf?
  14. well as far as indigo nation is concerned, I'm not suprised. They were never all that busy, prices high even for their segment, and the merchandise mix was bad. Tee shirts and the same brands of designer jeans, season after season. blah.
  15. Well I always wondered why they did not renovate their rooms to compete with the much more modern, higher end hotels in the area. You can stay at the Marriott at UC for a bit less and get tons more amenities. The VM, from a guest standpoint, while historic, was just not up to par with what the average traveler expects. Historic only goes so far and hotel operators usually understand this. Hence why the Hilton Netherland downtown operates like any luxury hotel in and major city. Other historic properties in the midwest have seen major updates to compete with the growing travel-saavy generation (ie Palmer House in Chicago) The place was very outdated inside, and their rates were too high for the product they were offering. I hope maybe they can renovate the place into condos for the medical community, or renovate and re brand as a luxury hotel again. I will seriously move if they go to Section 8 for this property. That would be a D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R.
  16. sad, sad, sad. I'm speechless.
  17. Also, see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FlyTAZ for your enjoyment. haha.
  18. http://www.flytaz.com/ anyone have any new info on this? those schedules look pretty sweet to me!
  19. Supposedly late 2009 with a completion sometime in 2011. ugh. color me disappointed. I wish they'd at least start moving dirt around and prepping now.
  20. GREAT photos. Keep them coming. That last shot ALMOST looks like OTR as far as density and heights are concerned....I had to do a double take when I first saw it.
  21. LOL "The Bottoms" sounds like the name of a trashy gay bar. Yes, I went there. haha.
  22. Great retort! That last part is particularly striking. My wife and I are basically the type of young professionals Cincinnati is supposedly trying to attract. We almost didn't move here because of negative reputation, and although we like it alright, it's doubtful that Cincy will be our permanent home the way things currently are. (And that seems to be a very common sentiment among the friends we've made here) But a streetcar system that gentrifies OTR and invigorates the center city into something like Portland would change all that. My wife is about as intolerant of grit and decay as any person I've ever met, and yet she was in absolute awe of OTR's potential and the latent beauty of the neighborhood. I don't understand why critics like the dean can't understand this. Just TALK to any professional in their 20s or 30s. They desperately want to live in gentrified urban places like Portland. The streetcar would be an amazing magnet for affluence. It's stunning that the city has come so far with its plans, yet people want to throw it all away. PLEASE please please send your story out to the decision makers in this city. Attracting YPs is so crucial to the success of this city in the future and they need to hear this kind of feedback.
  23. Imperial Theatre --282 McMicken Avenue, Cincinnati anyone have anything to share about this place? from http://cinematreasures.org/theater/8832/ "This theatre was a neighborhood theatre in the Mohawk section of Cincinnati on McMicken Avenue. In the mid '60s, they started showing adult movies (back then they were rated X, but now those movies would be a "soft R".) Later in the '60s, they had live burlesque shows and renamed it Imperial Follies. Now it is empty but the building remains, with the marquee" http://www.flickr.com/photos/10707024@N04/2880457106/sizes/l/
