Sycamore Township: Kenwood Collection
I have an easy solution for these misplaced tenants: GO DOWNTOWN. You'll have no trouble finding ample retail space ready to quickly be renovated at prices that are probably less than Kenwood. Kenwood has a great selection of the types of shops I like (J.Crew, Nordstrom soon) but the place is one of the worst logistical clusterf*cks I have ever seen in my life. The parking there is a disgrace.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
All viable options, but there are dark horse(s) that you haven't mentioned. That being said, I know nothing of the short list, and especially not the finalist if one has been selected yet. Righto. There are so many others... boutique hotels are the "hot" thing now and every major hotel company has at least one product that would meet this label. 5 years ago it would have been W or Kimpton for sure. I will say this much, having a Westin already in the city makes a W possibility VERY, VERY promising.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I will give my first born to the person that can hit up their connections and find out what the flag will be for this "boutique" hotel in the flats. My money is on a W, Conrad, Hilton Garden Inn, Hotel Indigo or Kimpton product!

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
So I am sitting at the Panera on Calhoun eating lunch right now, and I happened to sit down next to a group of four guys who are discussing this very project. They have dozens of full scale renderings from all angles (ones that are not floating around online) and they seem to be heavily focusing on the hotel aspect of this project. They guy who is talking alot is wearing a Schnippel Construction shirt....they keep bringing up the Hilton Garden Inn brand. They've also been talking alot about codes/architecture, and specifics like parking garages, electric panels, fire alarm systems, and even key card entry systems. VERY interesting!!!!

Skiing around Cincinnati
Snowshoe looks good, but 7 hrs is steep for a weekend, IMO. Is there anything up by Toledo or Detroit/Windsor areas?

Skiing around Cincinnati
Can anyone name some decent ski resorts within, say, a 4 hour drive of Cincinnati? I'm originally from Cleveland, so I was spoiled by the dozen or so resorts that can be had within a morning's drive, but I'd like to see what there is down here and maybe take a weekend later this winter... Thanks! Mark

Cincinnati: NEXT Hotel and Residences (Crowne Plaza)
I was originally the The Terrace Plaza Hotel, built by the same family that built the Netherland Plaza earlier. It was a Hilton, then a Crowne Plaza before foregoing a flag alltogether. Basically, Netherland Plaza got their Hilton flag when they dropped Omni.

Landlord/Heat Legality Question
I am on the lease. My bedroom is considered one of the 5 bedrooms in the house. We currently have 4 tenants living in a 5 bedroom house, with the 5 bedroom (in the basement) deemed uninhabitable by us and used as storage. I plan on sending him a note in writing with my November rent and then contacting him maybe 72 hours later (because I know he won't call me). I have not contacted him yet, but will keep you all posted. I won't take it up with a public body until I feel that I need to.

Landlord/Heat Legality Question
I have personally gone around to every vent in the house and closed those in utility rooms or hallways as to direct as much heat as possible into the bedrooms, but I get nothing in the third floor even still. The Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority seems to only deal with low-income and senior housing. Who deals with renters rights?

Landlord/Heat Legality Question
Hi Everyone! I live in a house in the CUF area of Cincinnati with 3 other UC students. I live in the third floor bedroom. While there are 2 vents up here, absolutely no heat or air conditioning is emitted. I don't care so much about the A/C because I have a standalone unit just for my bedroom, but I am really concerned about the lack of heat. It's 54 degrees up here now...and I cannot wait for January to come. Can the landlord legally rent this room as a bedroom even though it has no HVAC flow? What should I do to try and resolve this problem? I cannot keep using a space heater all the time. Any help, tips, or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
They are expanding like wildfire and who else is a better fit, bigger statement, and actually attainable? I could be wrong, but I sure wouldn't bet against it. I hope so, but it could also be a Kimpton product, or some other completely random brand since Boutique hotels are all the rage these days....

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
UC*Metro to require new IDs to ride buses The questionable student status of some riders and unanticipated levels of ridership will require users of the UC*Metro program to use a new Metro-issued swipe card beginning Oct. 19. The current program provides all University of Cincinnati students, faculty and staff with free rides on all Metro buses as long as they have a UCID. Over the past year, Metro drivers have noticed a large number of people who do not appear to be affiliated with the university obtaining free rides with a UCID. “There seem to be people who are riding and based on their usage pattern it doesn’t appear they are necessarily current students, faculty members or employees,” said Sallie Hilvers, spokeswoman for Metro. “It’s not fair to UC and the students who are paying for it that people ride free who don’t really deserve to.” With the new system, riders will need to apply for a new card each quarter to ensure people who leave the university will not be able to take advantage of the system by using an old ID, according to Hilvers. The initial swipe card will be provided free of charge to current UC community members, but a replacement card will cost $50. According to Hilvers, the fee is there as a deterrent to keep people from registering for multiple cards and passing them out to ineligible riders. jmicha, that is exactly what I saw and mentioned earlier in this thread! glad someone else noticed too. keep us posted on any other developments when they happen since you have such a good view of the site. I live on the west side of campus now so I don't walk on Calhoun every day anymore...

framing for large billboard-type signs was installed on the opposite corners of the McMillian/Calhoun site. I'm thinking they should be putting up renderings and/or project information soon. Watch this! I'm really excited to see some momentum (finally!) at this site!

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I agree, but I think that housing is a CRITICAL part of this project. Part of the reason Newport is doing so poorly is because it has identity problems and no residential component. A hotel is also critical, but I think condos are perhaps a bit more important than many people would like to think.

September 22, 2008 The Banks eyes hotel, drops condos http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080922/NEWS0108/309220036/1055/NEWS By Jessica Brown [email protected] The Banks riverfront development is on time, under budget and may now include a hotel in its first phase instead of condos. Project manager John Deatrick told Hamilton County Commissioners this morning that one of the buildings which was originally planned to become condominiums is now being considered for a hotel instead.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
mcadrenaline replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructionone thing to note about UC is that we only have so much room to expand, and expansions are and will be necessary, but because of the already dense nature of a square campus, they are going to have to start looking to acquire neighboring properties to build out. We will need more dorms, college of business is growing year after year with an aging building, and of course the law school....

Buying a used road bike in Cincinnati??
When I move back down to Cincinnati for school next week, I am going to be on the hunt for a used, inexpensive road bike to get around Clifton and the UC area. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to obtain one of these? I'd like to spend maybe $50-100 for just something basic and reliable. Is CL my best option? Any tips, advice, etc. is MUCH appreciated!

Cincinnati: Corryville: Hampton Inn & Suites
I have to admit, when Sbux announced their plans to close hundreds of stores and realign their markets, the first thing that came to my mind was their involvement in this project, so I'm not surprised they are out. I still think and IHOP would do fantastic here, but I don't think they are willing to take any risks given the market and economy. I still hope the Hampton Inn pulls through because that is the focus point of this project and a limited service hotel would be a great addition to this areas offerings. so what do you guys think....is this project going to happen or not? I'm glad I know what is going on, but I'm still concerned that all parties involved will not follow through to make this happen.

is anyone planning on going to this? I would be there SO FAST if I was in Cincinnati that day. I'd really like to get the scoop on this project and I hope somebody can make it and report back. I wonder if they will have renderings???

...and I'll just put it out there: the fact that no one on here knows anything about the status of this project and/or the land REALLY scares me! no joke!
