  1. Mark your calendars! Bunbury 2013 will take place on July 12-14! Tickets will go on sale after Labor Day and will be the same price as Bunbury 2012. Prices will increase when we announce the headliners in February.
  2. Okay, I'm 100% on board with this now. This fills a huge gap in Hilton family brands downtown as well as limited service hotels downtown. These dual branded properties are becoming more and more common as a single property can use the same infastructure to cater to two different sets of guests: in this case, extended stay and non extended stay, but with one set of laundry facilities, one pool, etc etc. It brings the costs down significantly for owners I believe NYC and Atlanta have a few like this. Here's the link to the Atlanta property: http://www.homewoodsuitesmediacenter.com/index.cfm/newsroom/detail/20067?ref=hww
  3. "I think a newly done hotel will continue to boost the visitor perception of downtown (can't tell you how many visitors are ho-hum on our hotel offerings)." I cannot agree with you more on this and that is why I can't be too upset about a hotel over residential. It's ultimately a win-win: new hotel downtown, vacant space in an architecturally significant building is filled. I won't beat a dead horse here, but for how vibrant the business community is downtown, our hotel offerings are for the most part an absolute insult. Cities like Cleveland, Indy (especially Indy, in fact), and Pittsburgh have far, far better hotel choices than we do. Having the Hyatt remodel and likely 4 new properties downtown will really force the others to reconsider putting off major renovations much longer. The Hilton Netherland doesn't even have WiFi in their guest rooms. Are you serious?!?
  4. I was told over the weekend that the apartment building on the NE corner of 12th/Clay will go market rate following a major rennovation. The first floor will become retail and there is a bakery tenant already in place supposedly. My source did not include a timeline for this. Anyone have any additional information on this project?
  5. This news is bittersweet, but I'll reserve full judgement until there's a full press release on this project. I agree that this building would be excellent for apartment or condo conversion, but I also think downtown Cincinnati is underserved in the hotel arena (particularly by mid- and upper-midscale brands) The real question is... where does this leave the Terrace Plaza? With 4 (!) new hotels in the pipeline downtown (Holiday Inn Broadway, 21C, Enquirer, Banks) and a Hyatt rennovation, I don't see how they'll be able to re-open as a hotel anytime soon, but the developers have also stated that it's a poorly situated building for condos because of the small windows and lack of natual light.
  6. Don't patronize me. I am completely fine with weed. I don't care if people smoke and I think it should be fully legalized. Until it is actually legal, I think if you want to smoke you should do it in the privacy of your home. It doesn't help to have people using illegal drugs (regardless of my aforementioned opinion on weed) in a neighborhood with a reputation for drug trafficking and violence. It gives off the impression that the neighborhood isn't safe and the police don't enforce laws. If that is one of Joe Cincinnati's first impressions of OTR it could have a lasting, negative impact on his perception of OTR/downtown. It also doesn't help the legalization argument when those same people are yelling at people walking down the street and throwing their trash all over. It gives weed a bad name and something for the social conservatives to point at. Yes. thank you.
  7. Your sarcasm is noted, but the problem is the general attitude that this is even okay! And with this activity comes all sorts of other issues noted in this thread.
  8. You're one step ahead of the ballgame with that scenario. It's a catch 22: those desirable type of residents will not be moving in with the frequency we imagine unless these criminal activities, gunfire, loitering and litter are gone first. Moreover, developers are NOT going to be able to the the premium that will encourage them to continue building in OTR if these problems remain. You're living in a fantasy world if you think all these half a million dollar plus condos will fill when there's prostitution, gunfire, drugs and trash literally feet away. The good news is that while Mercer is under construction, residents have time to make their voices louder and hopefully the city can understand how to deal with this area.
  9. I think the thing that frustrates me the most about that block of townhomes is that those could easily be rented for a premium right now to people who would keep the buildings and street cleaner and safer. I have a huge problem with these individuals living there, disrespecting not only the space but also the public property by littering, rampant drug activity, loitering etc. and essentially bringing a whole part of OTR down. And tax dollars support this. It's not about having more people in the streets, it's about removing the source of a problem all together. This will continue to be a problems for years and years to come. Let's get real here: Mercer Commons is NOT going to solve all of these problems as many on UO claim they will. You think these people are going to give a crap that shiny new condos are being built and new people are moving in? Absolutely not. Get real.
  10. yeah I agree. The momemtum in OTR is kind of like a donut with this area of Walnut right in the middle. A serious problem as these types of events do reflect poorly on the rest of the neighborhood and the new condos that are a block away from this mess.

News Release Comair to Cease Operations No significant changes to schedules or locations served for Delta customers Jul 27, 2012 ATLANTA, July 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today announced its subsidiary, Comair, Inc. will cease operations after Sept. 29, 2012. (Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20090202/DELTALOGO ) In a memo issued today to the Officers and Directors of Delta Air Lines, Don Bornhorst, Senior Vice President of Delta Connection, said: "While regional flying has and will remain a key component of Delta's network, customer expectations and the unit costs of regional flying have evolved. In response, Delta recently announced its plans to reduce the total number of regional jets in its network while adding more mainline flying. This includes reducing the number of 50-seat regional jets from nearly 350 aircraft to 125 or fewer in the upcoming years. As a result of this reduction and changes to its customer-focused business strategy, Delta has made the difficult decision to cease Comair's operations." Ryan Gumm, President of Comair, communicated Delta's decision this morning to Comair employees in a memo, the full text of which is included below. The discontinuation of Comair's operations will not result in any significant changes to Delta's network, which has enough flexibility to accommodate these changes. Currently, Comair accounts for approximately one percent of Delta's network capacity. There will be no disruption to customers and no significant adjustments to Delta's flight schedule or locations served. All customers who travel on the Delta network, whether on Delta Connection flights or mainline aircraft, can continue to make travel plans with Delta as they have in the past. Cincinnati will continue to be an important market in Delta's worldwide network. Over the past several years, working with community leaders, Delta has right-sized capacity at Cincinnati to better match service to local passenger demand. Cincinnati is now a profitable market for Delta and the city continues to enjoy over 120 peak daily flights, with non-stop service to 49 destinations. No reductions in the number of Delta flights are planned at Cincinnati as a result of this decision. To All Comair Employees From Ryan Gumm, President Subject Comair to Cease Operations Date July 27, 2012 All, Today, I am writing to let you know that Delta has made the difficult decision to cease Comair's operations after September 29, 2012. Delta recently announced its intent to reduce the overall number of 50-seat regional jets in its network from nearly 350 to 125 or fewer in light of the significant changes in the economic and competitive conditions in the airline industry. We believed this announcement would have a negative impact on Comair because we operate some of the oldest 50-seat aircraft in the Delta Connection fleet, which also have the highest unit cost per flight hour. And, in fact, Delta has decided to remove the remaining 16 Comair 50-seaters from the Delta network, leaving Comair with only 28 aircraft in scheduled service. This further reduction of Comair's active fleet will only create higher unit costs, which equates to a business model that is no longer sustainable in this competitive regional environment. I understand that today's news is very difficult and raises many questions for you and your family. Human Resources is prepared to directly assist you during this time. They will post a memo and other documents on the Human Resources Epic page to keep you informed of the assistance available and to help answer many of your questions. We will also have staff available over the weekend to answer questions if needed. If after reviewing the information on Epic you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your departmental leadership as well. The discontinuation of Comair's operations is in no way a failure or a reflection of your work – it is an unfortunate necessity due to the economic limitations of our aging aircraft, cost structure, the long-term outlook for 50-seat aircraft, and our challenging industry and economy. The quality of our operations has continued to be outstanding during our lengthy restructuring efforts, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to lead such a committed team. I am asking that each of you recognize the importance of remaining focused on safety and the job at hand as we continue operations throughout the wind-down period. Your continued commitment and your dedication to a safe and reliable operation is a testament to the professional team we have built here at Comair.
  12. Comair announcement planed for 8:30am tomorrow (7/27), including press release. DL and OH leadership to be present. Supposedly all Comair CRJ-200 (50 seater) flying will end on 9/4, after Labor Day. The remaining 28 CR7 and CR9 to be transitioned out through the month of September to other DCI carriers. OH effectively shutting down on 9/28. Where this leaves CVG is anyone's best guess, but it's obviously not good news for us in any case.
  13. Yes, I know who is behind it and something about the plans. I can't say anything else other than it is someone who has/is part of a business in OTR. Fair enough. Any idea when we might have some sort of announcement on this space from that party? or is this a buy now and sit on it for a few years investment property?

The new Elton John vs. PNAU collaboration is pretty nuts. Definitely great summmer pool party/BBQ/drinking music. http://www.amazon.com/Good-Morning-Night-digital-booklet/dp/B008E371EI/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1343334846&sr=1-1&keywords=pnau+good+morning+to+the+night read more http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/jul/12/elton-john-pnau-review
  15. So 1116 was the old Plasmacare space and 1110 is the space that is undergoing construction right now to remove the bricked up facade.
  16. When can we expect an official announcement on the hotel? Have they secured financing?
  17. Anyone used the lockers/showers/storage facility at the Banks yet? I referred a friend there who was looking for a shower before heading to his office downtown each morning and I want to know what the facilities are like....
  18. ^^^ wow. that's obviously being actively watched...
  19. I have some family visiting me in Cincinnati this weekend. Two adults plus two kids aged 14 and 8. The only thing they have planned for sure is a Kings Island day on Monday. Because of the relative age difference in their kids, I am struggling to think of cool things for them to do and also restaurants to take them to. I'd love to take them out to Gateway/Vine St. places but I kind of feel like those places are not especially kid friendly. Just wanted to get some opinions here. They will be in town Saturday AM thru Tuesday. Thanks guys!
  20. Getting the beers on tap isn't the problem. The problem is the massive amount of cooler space you need to fit all those kegs. I'm guessing most of them will be craft beers in quarter-kegs, but that's still a lot of space. This guy I know just tweeted a picture of the cooler of another Yard House location. Looks pretty massive: http://instagram.com/p/NXsKhxTES7/
  21. I also see that 1205 Elm St (the church at 12th/Elm across from Washington Park) is also under contract for sale. Any idea who is behind this and/or the plans for the space? This corner is a serious hotspot of loitering and drug activitiy even with the new park traffic and Music Hall. http://www.comey.com/re/homesearch/displaylisting/listnum/1301382/mls/mls_cincy
  22. ^^^Good news. When I saw the fence up and work going on this past weekend I was afraid they were just begining to brick over the windows. I guess I never paid much attention to what that building looked like prior to construction commencing.
  23. And evict the winos who perch themselves on Rhino's stoop and feel free to holler at passersby. Rudest winos in the city IMO. REAL TALK. That stoop seems to be a favorite for naptime or a cold malt beverage at any/all hours of the day and night.
  24. FWIW, the old Rhinos Bar building behind the Emery (one of the last vacant buildings for sale in this area) is under contract for sale now. I hear it will be studio space and apartments.
  25. jmecklenborg, why so much negativity against this event? First, you continue to slam them for attendance numbers that simple seem too good to you and then hate on them for soliciting volunteers to work this event. Even if the use of volunteers instead of additional paid staff increased their profits, so be it. Good for the promoters. They need to make money for this event to happen again. Besides, there were PLENTY of paid staff (in the neon green shirts) that worked 8-12 hour shifts each day. This event wasn't solely run by volunteers. Come down off your high horse.... nobody here was being "hosed by the industry" -- if one was inimpressed by the offer to go free all weekend, they did not sign up to volunteer. We even had the opportunity to choose our volunteer timeslots so we could try to plan around the bands we wanted to see. I also volunteered for 8 hours over 2 days and got free admission all weekend. I'll second all of ryanlammi's comments. We were treated very well, given free water/gatorade, breaks and free food vouchers. The organization was top notch all around.
