Perhaps this has already been addressed in here, but does anyone know if the Fifth Third skywalk is slated for demolition? This is the one that crosses over Walnut connecting the main Tower to the 580 Building. This is a heavily used section due to 5/3's presence in both buildings, but is in very poor condition. Chunks of concrete are falling off and rebar is visible...
  2. Also they may have included all staff, volunteers, vendors, band members, etc. in their counts which would provide a significant bump in the total attendance. After all, these people did indeed "attend".
  3. Okay, some thoughts... THE GOOD: -Very well organized >plenty of ATMs >free water stations and misting tents >friendly, helpful staff >great beer and food options >volunteers treated very well -Fantastic venue -Affordable >$5 beers, $2 water, most food under $10 -Great showcase of downtown -Park kept very clean all weekend THE BAD: -Poorly located DJ stage with mostly-unknown talent >A big miss IMO since all the other festivlas are booking house/trance DJs now -Questionable weekend with Reds games and WCG -Food vendors absolutely slammed during peak dinner hours..waits of 1/hr+ -Lack of diversity in talent booked -Very poorly designed maps and directions (almost unreadable) -Probably missed attendance targets (judging by amount of excess staff, beer vendors, ATMs and bathrooms they were likely planning for a bigger crowd) -Well behaved audience...saw only one person being kicked out all weekend.
  4. I would love to know if anyone has perspective on whether this festival was a financial success or not...ultimately that will dictate if it happens again or not. My understanding is that as of Friday night, they had sold under 11K pre-sale tickets, but walk-up sales during the weekend were pretty robust.
  5. I attended all 3 days (worked Friday and Sunday, went for fun on Saturday) and felt that overall, this was a successful event. It was very well organized. I'll post a full review later on. Oh, and I now love Sawyer Point even more than before. What a terrific space!
  6. and do what? It has been Delta's plan for many years to A) Dissolve Comair and B) Draw down the CVG hub. I would hope our elected officials are well aware of this. I don't like this anymore than anyone else, but I think the damage has been done and it's really a downward spiral from here on out. Comair's business model is no longer sustainable in the current market.

    1. I can't speak for parking -- this weekend will be a shi*show with World Choir Games, 2 Reds games and Bunbury Music Festival. All bets are off. Expect there to be limited capacity and high prices. If it's not too late, I would seriously reconsider not staying someplace with walking distance. 2. Go to the Gateway District (Vine St. north of Central Parkway) and check out Bakersfield (tacos), A Tavola (pizza), Senate (dressed up street food), or any of the other places over there. Waits can be an issue, so if you want to do this expect to put your name in and grab a drink while you wait (I'd recommend Neons or Lackman for this purpose) This will be a much more "authentic" and "local" food experience imo. You can also make a reservation at Moerlein now I believe (check their website) but I don't particularly care for their food (awesome space and great beer though!) 3. All of those are solid places and you should visit them all if you can. Also check out Eden Park on your way up to Mt. Adams and consider driving over to Ludlow Ave. near UC if you want to do some window shopping or grab some Skyline. A walk through UC's campus is also a treat for anyone into architecture. Devou Park (in KY) has - hands down - the best view of downtown and it's a quaint, wealthy neighborhood up there with some great homes. Hyde Park Square is also a nice walking area and is an area quite popular with YPs in Cincinnati. You could really spend a day just seeing what's in OTR, but I think Gateway Quarter for dinner, Washington Square Park, and Findlay Market (on Sat AM) are the highlights right now. Bring an umbrella and raincoat...we are hearing rain this weekend is a possibility! I'm happy to give you my cell number via PM if you have any last minute questions when you get here :-)
  8. ^^^ That would make sense. There's been lots of buzz about this especially as DL seeks to remove its 50-seat flying. I heard that CVG will be down to 70 flights by October. This was from a CVG-based DL employee and could very well be an exxageration, but who knows. I would assume this would mean that without feed the Paris flight would have to go as well.
  9. looks like MidPoint headliners will be playing in the park! more great news!
  10. On 12th street you have 1132 bar and the blue building it's in, which looks terrible--like OTR of a decade ago . Plus the crowd hanging around there can look intimidating. Yeah even the crackheads that hang out in that general vicinity seem more confused than usual by all the new visitors and action in the area haha
  11. Does anybody think I'm crazy for really liking Atlanta? There's something about the mix of the international community and the south that really gets me. It's reasonably priced. Plenty of beaches and weekend retreats within just a few hours drive. Great restaurants and shopping. Solid arts scene. Huge gay community. Largest airport in the world. Traffic and sprawl is a huge problem there, but if you live and work inside the perimeter it's really quite a nice place imo. I really need to get up to Minneapolis sometime soon. I hear good things constantly. Any thoughts on Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Denver or Seattle?
  12. ...where would you go and why? *And I'm thinking American cities here. Of course we'd all love to move to some exotic location far away, but purely from a quality of life and urban amenities standpoint, what cities peak your interest?
  13. Looks like Delta will trim CVG-LAS to just 3x per week in September. Unclear what days it will operate on and/or if this is just a seasonal adjustment or not.
  14. Not sure if this has been posted or not, but it's a video from Siemens about the Charlotte LYNX system and some reactions from riders and residents. Worth the watch...about 7 mins only. While this is light rail, lots of the same themes and goals are true to our streetcar system.
  15. Well, equipment is on site and they put up the rendering on the corner. Anybody with a good camera should get over there before they fence off the site...could make for some really remarkable before and after shots! Particularly a Vine St. panoramic and some shots of the buildings on Mercer St.
  16. you're not serious....
  17. Mercer groundbreaking tomorrow! Anyone have the deets?
  18. okay, thanks guys. If I make it up there tonight I'll report back. I can imagine tonights might go quite long given discussion around the recent teenage homicide, Mercer Commons construction and the whole Music Hall debacle.
  19. Does the OTR Community Council meet tomorrow? What should I expect from one of these meetings?
  20. YIKES. Talk about a bad headline.... Financing will add $46.5M to streetcar project http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2012/06/financing-will-add-465m-to-streetcar.html Financing costs will add $46.5 million to the price of Cincinnati’s streetcar project, based on a June 21 memo by City Manager Milton Dohoney. The memo to Mayor Mark Mallory and members of city council summarizes the city’s current estimated debt service on three future bond issues totalling $64 million. Bond proceeds and federal grants comprise the bulk of funding needed to cover the streetcar’s $110.4 million budget.
  21. Terrible reporting. What does "steering clear of alcohol in the area" mean? Are these going to be subsidized units?
  22. Took a walk over here tonight as the sun was setting. The park looks good, like REALLY good. Stupid good. and nearly complete. Landscaping is almost completely in, they are finishing sidewalks and bench installation. The barricades are still up of course, but you can navigate around them to see most of the main areas of the park. It's really strange to walk over there and look at the contrast of the park and the currently dilapidated buildings surrounding it right now...thankfully that will all change soon.
  23. JohnClevesSymmes, you're absolutely right. In fact, many of my friends make the obligatory hipster/yuppie jokes when OTR comes up. That being said, lack of available rental property is a problem. If I had a nickel for every person I know that has told me they'd love to move OTR/DT but can't find availability. Really, new inventory cannot come online quick enough.
  24. Senate's new brunch menu is now on their Facebook page. Looks kinda 'meh' to me, but I am not a huge Senate fan as it is. Great to see another option in the neighborhood though and I'm sure they will be busy.
