  1. I agree! The only thing I can say is that it is a nice juxtaposition of the old and new in a dramatic sense. But..., after that thought wears off --- yuk!

Anyone have any photos of Battery Park before it was Battery Park? Perhaps from when it was an actual battery factory? Thanks!
  3. I looked at that -- what are the signs on the smokestack? Anyone know? So far I see a large letter "S" at the top and a large letter "E" at the bottom.

Travel to Europe and loose my gut. Maybe not in that order. I may want to spend some time at a nude beach somewhere.

or syrupy -- dump it! Best to make fresh daily.
  6. So, just checking in and bumping this. Good - -work continues on the Power House, slowly -volleyball courts are completed and bringing folks into the development to see what a great place it is -tunnel on W 76 was painted and looks good Room for Improvement -tunnel had some graffiti over the nice painting and needs cleaned again -tunnel lights and several street lights still out ?????? -will the next phase start any time soon? I thought it was supposed to start in June -what's happening with the Detroit street level project? When is the street widening supposed to start? I thought August. -Stone Water condo's in the old Pat Catans warehouse on W 76 must be "off". There is a sign on the building for leasing/development opportunity.
  7. Yeah, guess we gotta deal with it! Now, a Heinens in the old church like building - how cool would that be!

Just seeking knowledge here -- I try to use the reusable shopping bags. When I don't though I get the plastic bags. What I do with them is use them as trash bags in the trash cans as opposed to buying the thick heavy trash bags. So, my question is whether or not that is a good alternative at times?

How about an Urban Ohio reusable shopping bag for sale?
  10. Ooo! They deliver downtown! And until late too! Thanks for the tip! Warning: they do not accept credit card payments for downtown delivery (found out the hard way last weekend). They are open until 3:30am on weekends (not sure about weekdays). Do they deliver to the west side -- Battery Park area? So far all I can find to deliver here is Pizza Hut.

This one is simple as a marinade/rub for steaks. Works particularly well on flank steak: Equal parts of: -brown sugar -sea salt - ground -ground coffee (yes, that's right, ground coffee -- not brewed, just the dry beans, ground) Mix all ingredients. (I put the beans and the salt in a spice grinder and grind then mix with the brown sugar.) Rub on flank steak and refrigerate several hours or overnight. Remove from refrigerator and allow to set for 30 minutes. Grill to perfection. Enjoy!
  12. Pizza Hut only because they are the only ones who will deliver to Battery Park that I have found. Local shops are too worried about the 'hood I suppose. If it's not snowing and blowing then the walk to Red Stone is worth the taste of the pizza.
  13. He did. Nice photos BK!!
  14. Are these apartments or condos?
  15. I have written Matt Zone's office about the lights and the tunnel itself. I also wrote to CPP about the lights (and the missing/broken street light along Fr. Caruso Drive). There is a lady and a gentleman who work with students who are painting the tunnel. They do need some help with the tunnel.
  16. You are correct -- I am not ---- AND I need new glasses. Attention All Drivers -- stay away from me!
  17. Things are well, thanks for asking! Just hoping that they keep building and working on the Power House. I know the housing market sucks right now but I think if they put some work into the Power House including the sand volleyball courts it will be an attraction to bring folks to the property. I noticed some paint inside the tunnel on W 76, any idea when that was done? I am hoping the tunnel project gets moving as well. We worked with a group to clean the tunnel up last month, it was a great example of community activism that works for the better of all. We need lots more of that!
  18. Isn't there a Liberty Textile Building located on Detroit next to The Harp?
  19. Thanks Jim! Enjoying the new place this summer?

Right. And then people use that to run up the ladder to draw conclusions that may or may not be true. Just like a faulty ladder -- when the rungs don't have strength --somebody's gonna get hurt. Just ask the people trying to buy a house in Richmond Heights.

There's SOMETHING to most stereotypes, but the discussion seemed to be degrading into this myth that all gay men are muscle-men, and all straight men are slobs. I've know plenty of exceptions on both sides of that rule, and I am one of them (and people generally don't even put me in the "metro" category). There are CULTURAL PATTERNS and there are STEREOTYPES. That's the difference.
  22. I think Kimo closed or changed to something else.

Religion played a role in the founders leaving one country to start another one in the hopes of escaping the imposition of a particular religion. Not sure what part religion played in the whole racial discrimination/let's steal the land from the Native Americans process though but I suspect there was some "moral" reason given.

okay, whatever. Just let me say that religious beliefs were the basis behind the 9/11 attacks too. If you feel marriage is between one man and one woman in YOUR church, then so be it. Go to church and enjoy the company of others who share the same sentiment. However, in this country there is supposed to be separation of church and state. Think about it -- today it may be the gays who can't marry because many Christians believe it is wrong and Christianity is the prevailing religion for the moment. Tomorrow it may be anyone who is Christian who cannot marry because a different religion is the prevailing religion in the country at that time. Without a separation of church and state we no longer have a democracy. All we want are the same rights AND responsibilities when it comes to relationships. Religion has been used to justify everything from slavery to burning people at the stake. Be careful what you ask for, you might just get it.
