Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
I do see your point. Forgive my ignorance but if there is a concerted plan for downtown, particularly Tower City, I'm not aware of it. That is what is necessary. Right now there is momentum with SYC and from a retailers perspective SYC can "build to suit" as opposed to fitting into existing space. I'mnp\ot sure there is any one right answer. Would love to see TC be the home to Crate & Barrell, Nordstroms, and other places that draw people downtown!

Ditto. That is my biggest worry about Steelyard, that it may preempt Downtown retail. I think there is a lot that needs to be done to get stores in downtown. CB2 or West Elm would be good in Tower City but won't last if it costs too much to park. Since those are new concepts for the area, in my opinion, if a new concept fails in the area the rest will be gun shy. I know many of us would love the city to be walkable and a place like Tower City to be a destination retail/business place but it's just not there yet. Baby steps -- and I think SYC would be a good place to have a new concept introduced. As the article suggests the success of SYC is still up for debate. I want to see the debate go away and retailers be looking for the next hot opportunity. For my vote I hope that would be TC back in glory!

They are great stores and I have been to and spent or plan to spend in most. I do think the chains help support economic development on a scale that local businesses just don't have an infrastructure to do so. I think there is room for both in the city to help drive sustainability of the region.

Carole -- thanks. I grew up with one bathroom -- that is where I learned that patience is a virtue. The house in OC really would have been a dream just like all those Home & Garden TV dreams. I do hope someone takes care of it.

Carole -- thanks! I was curious. We met you when we looked at the building. Yes, it is a great building and would make a very nice restaurant or even a home. just lots of $$$ to renovate.

I agree, C & B would be good but not sure they would do it. West Elm -- I like that store and I think there could be a market. Given the $$$ value of housing stock I think their product line is consistent with what many people will spend to dress out a home.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Amen to that. A similar sized city close by is Pittsburgh. I lived and worked there for many years. The city is surrounded by hills and rivers -- that's the obvious part. The not so obvious part is that there are only so many ways to work around the hills and rivers and build roadways to get to the city. The traffice is phenomonal as anyone who has ever waited and participated in the event that IS 4 lanes of traffic collapsing into 2 in order to go through one of the many tunnels through the hills only to find one of 2 lanes closed due to an accident can attest to --- the traffic in Cleveland is a RELIEF compared to Pittsburgh! At least that is what I felt when I moved to Cleveland. So, if it takes 5 minutes longer on a commute because the speed limit is reduced and a few lights are added -- get up earlier, fill up a second mug of good coffee, and find some creative way to spend all that energy on instead of anger.

Okay, I'll get back on topic. Could a Marc's or a West Elm or Linens 'n Things be a good match for SYC?

And a back on topic question -- in Ohio City does anyone know who purchased the Oblock Building on W 29th? We looked at that as a great building to renovate for a house but too much work. The sign is down -- what, if anything is it being rehabed to be?

Wolstein replacement design? Did Wolstein pull out? I have been moving and away from most information including the Plain Dealer and evening news? Am I missing something?

Cleveland - New Developments Impact on Downtown Condo Values
I think if you truly want downtown then the Park Building is the way to go. If you want something upscale with lake access and still be in close proximity to the hustle & bustle, check out Battery Park and the 4 luxury condos on the northern end of West 76th.

Is this Detroit-Shoreway? Opinions on these townhouses?
Welcome! Battery Park is great and the taxabatement a major plus -- but, if you are truly only going to be here 3 years renting may be the better choice. We just purchased in Battery Park but if we were going to rent short term it would have been Ohio City or the Warehouse District -- probably OC for the parking needs of 2 cars. As others have mentioned the Detroit Shoreway is on its way back so for us it was an investment in helping create that energy while building toward our future. If you want to know more about BP, just ask!

Worst Song in the History of the World
Well -- it would be my high school class song. Not that it was bad -- but it was written by a classmate and only ever sung by our class. Certainly can never hear it on the radio and have a fond or frightening memory! So......., Lisa -- my best friend from high school and I chose our "unofficial" high school class song -- "Gypsys, Tramps, and Thieves" by Cher.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
BK -- I am here and ready to help. I think the access to the Shoreway DOES influence BP. While I am truly enjoying our unobstructed view of the city, the rest of the buildings are planned to have quite a few residents and hopefully will be built soon. That said, if the infrastructure and commerc cannot support the population then our house values go down and our condo fees go up from the roughly $100 bucks a month because the costs will need to be shared over a smaller base. I am also anxious to see the tunnel on West 76th Street renovated. Also along that street is supposed to be Stone Water -- the Pat Catan's warehouse building at the very north end of West 76th Street. anyone hear anything more on that project?

I agree with Carole. We need someone connected to the State. We just bought in Battery Park -- if this doesn't happen we'll be piZZed! We took a chance on helping to build the city -- why can't the State.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Dru -- Welcome! We just moved in to the area about 2 months ago. So far the area is great. The build quality is good, the builders are flexible with options and so far have been very willing to fix/correct anything that needs adjusted. We haven't had anything major -- just minor stuff. Likes -- the diversity of the neighborhood, close proximity and ability to walk to the lake/Edgewater Park. The restaurants in the area are plentiful and easy to get to. The West Side Market is close by. Haven't met many neighbors but I am sure we will. I spoke with someone from the Detroit Shoreway Development Corporation and the Councilman, Mat Zone, before we made our final decision to move. I feel pretty confident that the neighborhood is going in the right direction. Dislikes -- not really a dislike but understand, this is an urban area and is still going through change. You're going to find traffic and some areas that you may think twice about walking through. I know that I see a police presence throughout the neighborhood patrolling. One thing again -- not a dislike -- but we moved from a ranch house into a home with 3 flights of stairs -- took a little getting used to. Noise level is fine but it may take you a while to get used to the trains that run along the north end of BP. We are pretty much used to it now. We really do think this is going to be a great place to be!

Yes, they are working on the Power House. FYI -- there was some sort of music video filmed over there. The band is called The Audition and I think they are from Chicago. Anyway, Power House is getting worked on and it looks like they might start working on the next set of townhouses. Looking forward to seeing some work start on the tunnel on W 76 and some action on the Pat Catan's building (can't think of the name of the develpment -- Stone Water maybe?)

Hey -- Happy New Year to you too! We spend NY Eve on the third floor and watched the fireworks from somewhere off of the deck! When the weather gets better I am sure we will see you outside!

I would vote for number 2. A live music venue would be great. We have been to Beachland but now that we are on the West Side we were looking forward to Parish Hall and then.... it closes.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Hello all -- haven't been on here in a while. Too busy moving in to our new place in Battery Park! We are the first to move in to one of the single families on W 76th. We are really enjoying the place, working hard at unpacking and organizing. All went well and we are pleased. Can't wait for the warmer weather to start enjoying the lake and the green space! Hoping to see some more progress on the whole development soon. They are starting on the Power House. I think it will be a great place! Didn't know if you all knew it -- a music video was shot around the Power House. Hope all are well & thanks again to all of you on here who always respond and answer questions and helpd us sort through our decision to move!
