Brightline West to get $3 billion from US. If this is from the federal-state partnership program as it appears, it's one-fourth of all funds available. This will go to the $12 billion Los Angeles-Las Vegas project. https://x.com/reviewjournal/status/1732061953906851914?s=20

They have nothing planned for that site. It's a buy-and-hold. That could change in a year, but Bedrock is focused on the riverfront.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
The same thing was done with the City Club Apartments. They held a topping-off ceremony with all of the officials but the last structural steel was raised weeks later. I don't get it either.

Columbus Crew Discussion
I think this is going to be a big ratings coup for Fox Sports. If so, they (and other networks) might make an offer to MLS to broadcast more games next year and in coming years.

Ohio Public Corruption
Sam Randazzo, Ohio’s former top utilities regulator, indicted for bribery, embezzlement crimes https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/12/sam-randazzo-ohios-former-top-utilities-regulator-charged-with.html Yes, I know an indictment isn't proof of guilt. But why did DeWine, a former prosecutor, defend Randazzo? Might want to look into his closet too...

Ohio Marijuana News
Guess the people are going to have to spank these little theocrats with a redistricting amendment and a marijuana amendment. Direct democracy is the only recourse when republicans try to codify their extremist religious beliefs.

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
That was the word BEFORE construction even started. Not cool that it's the case now as construction is wrapping up. Doesn't bode well for a follow-on project in the future.

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
Jonathon Holtzman acts as if he's bipolar -- calm and friendly in one communication, a raging fire the next. Were there any thoughts shared as to where he will build next? I hear he's focused on getting projects going in several other cities right now but may come back to Cleveland to build in University Circle afterwards.

From: https://x.com/ByERussell/status/1730651986737910017?s=20 Amtrak's VP of Network Development Nicole Bucich says they expect a decision "soon" from the FRA on what Connect U.S. corridors will be funded under the BIL. But even if they're funded, don't expect trains to run anytime soon...

Cleveland: East Side Neighborhood Development
I'm redirecting this discussion from the Opportunity Corridor thread because it appears there's a potential development project here. @MuRrAy HiLL started by sharing this demolition post.... Realtor Tonya Perkins of Shaker Heights appears to be either the owner or the owner's representative of the property on which that demolished building stood. The property was acquired in 2020 by 2740 Grand Avenue Enterprises LLC. That company was formed in late 2019 by Calabrese & Associates of Solon. Interestingly, the permit application for this demolition wasn't submitted to the city until yesterday. Cost of the demolition according to the permit is $647,777. That is a very expensive demolition if you're not going to do anything with the property afterwards. None of the surrounding properties have transferred recently nor are they owned by or appear to be affiliated with 2740 Grand Avenue Enterprises.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
I have some notes from back in July regarding the buyer (hint: a local restaurateur who also gives workers a second chance). Totally forgot about it. I'll follow up with him in the morning and see if he wants an article about it.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
If the timeline for HQ2 follows that of HQ1, it could. With HQ1, they went through the city approvals process in the summer of 2021 and had it wrapped up by the start of fall. Construction equipment and materials began arriving on site in October. So if the approvals process starts in late summer or early fall, they could conceivably start work by early winter. I'm told there's a possibility the HQ1 work is delayed a bit, which is why SHW extended its lease at the Skylight Office Building. While the workers laboring on HQ1 won't be able to transition over to HQ2 since it's completely different work and workers at those stages of construction, the construction management team is already assembled and on site.

Can't open it, but I heard the plow on the front of the locomotive fell off as the train headed east of Cleveland. The plow struck and broke an axle on the cafe car, two cars back into the 11-care train.
