It's an appraisal; not an attack. I rode SEPTA lines in 2023 and was horrified to see how much the system has declined despite all the urban core development. Same deal in Cleveland and other cities where most of the gentrifiers living in the urban core own cars or take Uber/Lyft, walk and bike everywhere but won't be caught riding transit. But Philly was a mini New York to me transit-wise when I was a young adult and saw it as an equal to Toronto's transit scene -- especially right after completion of the Center City tunnel that unified the former Reading and PRR systems. Not anymore. Not even close. BTW, when my family and I visited Philly two years ago, I loved it but my European wife and 10-year-old son thought it was dirty and seedy. I don't mind a gritty city -- I live in Cleveland after all!
  2. I might request reprint permission for that terrific photo someday @MayDay.
  3. Outstanding, @MayDay!

Probably better to respond here.... Not surprising. SEPTA ridership is a shadow of its former self. When I visited my sister who was living in Philadelphia in the late 1980s, station parking lots overflowed with commuters' cars and the trains and trolleys were full. Now, there seems to be more homeless than commuters riding and occupying the stations.
  5. There's going to be an announcement next week.
  6. Far from it. That's why I took them to task a little bit for seeking a temporary construction sign.
  7. It's already old news here at UO though.... University Circle’s ‘Holy Oil Can’ is up for sale By Ken Prendergast / April 11, 2025 When a church has been around for a long time, its name can often change. But for the 97-year-old Church In The Circle, 1919 E. 107th St., its appearance-based nickname has not changed — the “Holy Oil Can.” Nor has its ownership — until now. 8. Yeah, because it has a new owner.
  9. Just to clarify, it's not my suggestion. GCRTA has suggested this. Gotta give 'em some credit at least some of the time...
  10. Awesome stuff. But do you have a girl/S.O.? 😉
  11. Especially since the city of Cleveland's funding offer was based on a 30-year TIF of lakefront stadium-generated tax revenues.
  12. Bibb has nothing to do with Brook Park. Ronayne could keep the sin tax money out, leaving it $120 million short (or $4 million per year which can be made up). Brook Park will create a stadium-area TIF district to service a $480 million bond issued through one or more port authorities or similar entities. No. Under the current legislation, the state share cannot be more than one-third of the total stadium project's cost. With Brook Park, the state is being asked to finance one-fourth of the cost.
  13. Of course, this assumes GCRTA has the operating budget for such frequencies. But increasing the Shaker branches' frequencies to every 20 minutes all day is the low-hanging fruit. GCRTA could also cut the Red Line frequencies to every 20 minutes all day with a Green Line extension to the airport, giving them service every 10 minutes between the Airport and East 55th.
  14. GCRTA intends to increase the frequency on the Blue/Green lines from every 30 minutes all day, to every 20 minutes off-peak. I've heard that they also want peak frequency to be increased to every 10 minutes on the branches (meaning every 5 minutes on the trunk between Shaker Square and Tower City). I wouldn't be surprised to see the Green Line extended all the way to the airport. If so, look for the Red/Green lines west of Tower City to be every 10 minutes off-peak, and then every 5 minutes peak. East of Tower City, the red line would probably run every 20 minutes off-peak and every 10 minutes peak. Too bad we couldn't build a UC-Shaker Square connector to run a new line from the Van Aken District to Windermere every 20 minutes off-peak and every 10 minutes peak. 😁
  15. Ohio City Starbucks OK’d by Landmarks panel By Ken Prendergast / April 10, 2025 A plan to renovate an historic car dealership with retail uses, including a new Starbucks in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood, was approved today by the city’s Landmarks Commission. But the question of whether a proposed drive-through should remain in the design was referred to the city’s Division of Traffic Engineering to decide. 16. The application doesn't matter legally. A building permit does. No permit has been awarded for the drive-through yet.
  17. New restaurant going into the new Driftwood Apartments at West 11th and Fairfield. Several of the plan renderings show a project name as "Keen-Driftwood Catering" but after searching on that in multiple databases, I cannot find anything with that name to provide more information.
  18. The article I posted above also noted this year. It also noted that: Ferguson said the bond package likely led five Republicans to join all Democrats in voting against the budget, and suggested other Republicans wanted to make it clear they didn't like the plan.
  19. Here’s the Scoop: Ben & Jerry’s to Playhouse Square By Ken Prendergast / April 10, 2025 While NEOtrans doesn’t normally devote an entire article to the planned opening of a small retail space, this is a new ice cream parlor in a high-profile location. And, of course, everyone loves ice cream, especially when it’s enjoyed before or after a show at America’s second-largest theater district, Cleveland’s Playhouse Square. 20. There are likely state sales taxes currently being generated by the existing lakefront stadium that are going to the state. Some of them are coming back to our area for public services but others are going to statewide uses. Question is, do you want that tax money to pay for public services here and statewide, or just for a stadium. Unfortunately, there's been no analysis released publicly about this yet, per this article published today.... https://www.statenews.org/government-politics/2025-04-10/most-ohio-house-republicans-team-up-to-pass-budget-with-600m-browns-bond-package?_amp=true
  21. No it's not. It's a state-authorized value capture mechanism of taxes generated by activities associated with the stadium to service a $600 million bond issuance. No new outside money is coming.
  22. Shame we couldn't get rail/transit into this big infrastructure ask. More than half is going to roads.... https://govmarketnews.com/ohio-voters-to-decide-on-2-5b-infrastructure-bond-package/
  23. Tony George buying Lake Avenue site By Ken Prendergast / April 9, 2025 A high-profile businessman is near to acquiring a piece of property between Cleveland’s stable Edgewater neighborhood to the west and the fast-growing Gordon Square neighborhood to the east. But despite the number of new residential developments emerging nearby, this commercial site is apparently going to stay commercial — possibly charitable.
