  2. I think the pedestrian promenade linking the Red Line station's second entrance and the proposed BRT station is the key element, at least to RTA and therefore any funding request they would make. It would drastically shorten the pedestrian connections between bus and rail rapid transit lines. From rail platform to BRT platform, it appears as if it would halve the distance from about 875 feet to 430 feet, according to Google Earth.

  4. Your ears must've been burning @Htsguy! Canon, Cleveland Clinic form partnership By Ken Prendergast / November 27, 2023 Global imaging giant Canon Inc. and the locally based yet global Cleveland Clinic Foundation today announced their intentions to form a strategic research partnership to develop imaging and healthcare information technologies to improve patient diagnosis, care and outcomes. The announcement, initiated by Canon, publicly reveals the first tangible development in nearly a year since the company said it had created a U.S. healthcare subsidiary Canon Healthcare USA Inc. and would locate its headquarters in Greater Cleveland. That was to be the start of a downtown streetcar subway whose citywide bond issue in 1919 or 1920 was defeated by Cleveland voters due to postwar high interest rates and a belief that it should be a countywide bond issue. That photo is pre-1954 when the streetcar ramps and deck on the lower level of the Detroit-Superior were converted to a roadway that didn't work. Cars kept hitting the support posts for the upper deck which were inches from the roadway lane.
  7. I think it's another 30 feet into the manmade ravine. And I'm pretty sure the height is based on the street frontage (on Columbus).
  8. Why not post it to the hyperloop thread and ask that it be renamed as "new rail technologies, ideas"?

That's one of the fallacies of sprawl development. Yes it brings in new tax revenues but it incurs new city services including safety forces, road maintenance and sewers. The net fiscal impact of these developments is positive in the short term but negative over the long term when the infrastructure maintenance bills kick in. Communities keep developing until they're built out. When that happens, their tax burdens go up and push people to the next greenfield farther out where the taxes are still low. With sprawl, communities enjoy their peak prosperity for only 50-75 years before it moves on to the next outer ring.

Forget American football for a week. Crew and FC Cincy face each other Saturday for the right to go to the MLS championship. An Ohio team will be in the championship.

  15. Plaza sought atop Ohio City Red Line station By Ken Prendergast / November 25, 2023 In Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) and a private developer will seek federal funding for a bridge cap over the Red Line transit tracks, West 25th Street train station and the Red Line Greenway to improve pedestrian connections to existing and future developments. GCRTA’s board on Tuesday will vote on a staff recommendation to authorize the pursuit of funds to plan for and construct the bridge cap to support a pedestrian plaza and provide a second stairwell/elevator entry, called a station head house, to the rail station below. GCRTA’s board typically approves staff recommendations. MORE: https://neo-trans.blog/2023/11/25/plaza-sought-atop-ohio-city-red-line-station/

  17. HQ2 is proposed to front Superior, one of downtown's principal thoroughfares. I don't see how that is behind anything.
  18. It's possible Greyhound/Barons may serve both downtown and Puritas, like it used to. Just a different downtown station... Greyhound, Barons may offer downtown, west-side stops https://neo-trans.blog/2023/11/13/greyhound-barons-may-offer-downtown-west-side-stops/

  22. The Gateway property owner, Prospect Avenue Acquisition (aka Bedrock), did not submit a proposal to the county. In contrast, Sherwin-Williams' old HQ property owner Sapphire Acquisition (also aka Bedrock), did submit a proposal. That's the only property Bedrock bought under the Sapphire name. Bedrock used the DBA Savoy Acquisitions to acquire SHW's Breen R&D center on Canal Road. I keep hearing rumors that Bedrock may not put up a skyscraper (30+ stories) on the Gateway megaproject site. I expect they'll move some or all of Gateway East Parking's spaces to this site and construct an entertainment complex around it. It may include a residential/hotel building. If so, that may be the only "tower" built. But I doubt it will be much taller than 20-25 stories. Above that is when a residential/hotel building gets heavy enough to require caissons.
  23. If interest rates come down in 2025 (and banks start loosening up their lending), then 2025-27 could be a very interesting time for construction. I hope the construction companies around town have plans to get more young adults into apprenticeship programs because we may need them.
  24. Thanks again @Geowizicalfor the great massings. They really make the article. BTW, here's a crazy idea -- a pedestrian walkway between the two buildings, extending from the top of the parking levels in HQ2.
