Sherwin-Williams’ HQ2: how big? By Ken Prendergast / November 22, 2023 Just as NEOtrans was publishing breaking news Nov. 10 that Sherwin-Williams in 2024 would advance planning for the second phase of its headquarters, a trusted source responded with some remarkable data. That source provided employment data for Sherwin-Williams’ various office locations in Greater Cleveland and in Minneapolis which shows the company is dramatically expanding with new jobs that, if continued, shows the urgency in the company’s consideration of a second headquarters structure in downtown Cleveland, hereinafter referred to as HQ2. And based on that employment information and other insights, it is likely to be a significant structure or structures. MORE: https://neo-trans.blog/2023/11/22/sherwin-williams-hq2-how-big/

Wonder where the so-called capitalists come down on this one https://x.com/StrongTowns/status/1726974796758765799?s=20 "As reported by The Globe and Mail, residents spent a total of $181 million at curbside patios within 13 weeks of summer in 2021. If those spaces had remained dedicated to parking, only $3.7 million would have been reaped during the same time period."- Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News

Input sought for Watterson-Lake development By Ken Prendergast / November 20, 2023 At a recent community input meeting, a basic concept was revealed for redeveloping the former Watterson-Lake School site on Detroit Avenue, between West 74th and 75th streets in Cleveland’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. The design concept, called a massing, suggested a mixed-use, mixed-income development offering 112 apartments in a five-story building set back from Detroit, 12 rental townhomes, retail and small business incubator spaces fronting Detroit, plus community and park spaces. I think we're talking past each other. I don't oppose on-street parking. But I do believe that the street needs to be downsized and redesigned to spur population and business growth along it.- Cleveland: St. Clair-Superior (non-Asiatown): Development and News
The fantasy is the false presumption by too many people about what makes urban settings attractive. Population in urban settings is attracted to places with amenities and great public spaces. A wide street that encourages vehicles traveling at high rates of speed is brutalism personified -- the antithesis of an attractive urban setting. There are alternatives: https://www.pps.org/article/livememtraffic The data says car dependency hurts business. Walkable settings produce more retail sales and economic development then car-oriented settings: https://www.cnu.org/publicsquare/2021/08/18/ten-economic-benefits-walkable-places https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-12-08/for-store-owners-bike-lanes-boost-the-bottom-line- Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
Some interesting data here https://x.com/dro_sohrabian/status/1726438444023304246?s=20 80% of people who work in Cleveland proper live outside of Cleveland. 36% do not live in Cuyahoga County. This is a symptom of regional sprawl sickness.- Cleveland Browns Discussion

Glad it's a rivalry again. It's only a rivalry when both teams have something to play for, and/or at least have an equal chance of winning the game. https://x.com/KenCarman/status/1726611541821374781?s=20- Cleveland Browns Discussion
After Red Right 88, I erased all of the Browns songs I had recorded on my new Sears stereo system. And after listening to Uncle Vic on G98 on Sunday night, he talked me down and then I regretted erasing the songs. After the Ravens and Art Modell won the Super Bowl in 2000, I swore off the NFL forever. I paid attention to the Browns in their 2002 playoff season, but I couldn't get emotionally involved in this poseur Browns team. The Browns were an afterthought to me for the next 16 years and I didn't have any hope for them until the Browns traded for Jarvis Landry, Tyrod Taylor, and Damarious Randall in one day. That's when the Browns started becoming relevant to me again for the first time in The Return era. BTW, tell me without looking who was the Ravens QB in the first half of the 2000 season? He was so bad he was benched for Trent Dilfer.- Other States: Passenger Rail News
Nearly half of NC's trains don't travel outside of the state. They link Charlotte-Raleigh, 170 miles apart, which is an easy drive. But the route now has five trains in each direction. Thirty years ago, it didn't have any trains after a state-supported Amtrak train that ran through to Washington DC failed to produce ridership and was canceled. Despite that, the state DOT was convinced it was a good route and decided to sponsor a Charlotte-NYC train. The ridership between Charlotte and Raleigh was good and resulted in the addition of a standalone train between those cities. And then another. And then another. And then another. With record ridership, North Carolina looks to expand passenger rail system https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article281987988.html- Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters

Yep, and even more places to linger. I covered a public meeting where Crocker Park was being proposed and when Bob Stark suggested a street as a place to enjoy and linger, he got a few incredulous laughs from the Westlakers in the audience.- Other States: Passenger Rail News
Is Wisconsin so different politically from Ohio? Know what the difference is? From Day 1 of Amtrak, Milwaukee has always had decent train service to Chicago. That became the foundation constituency for more. Ohio has never had that foundation and neither Amtrak or the state government is willing to make the effort to change the status quo. - General: Complete Streets, Road Diets, and Traffic Calming
