Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
They're using whatever is available -- Park-n-ride highway coaches, downtown trolleys, articulateds, regular ol' mainline buses. I'd love to know the policy for assigning which buses for which routes. I hope the policy is more than "Is the bus in serviceable condition?"

I'm pretty sure that's why it got torn down. Look for UCI to replace it with a parking deck that can support a future overhead development or even pursue a parking deck in partnership with an overhead development.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
So what does Playhouse Square need to become busier during the day, assuming office and retail are not going to be available to any large degree? Perhaps it needs so much residential that the share of remote workers in those residential spaces will help keep the district active in daytime? Or perhaps it needs something else to capitalize on the district's "playhouse" moniker, such as more media outlets, production facilities, advertising firms, small-scale theaters/schools, etc?

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
The old saying was that Downtown Cleveland rolled up its sidewalks after 5 pm. Now it rolls them out at 5 pm in some areas. Playhouse Square is one of the places where that's most true, due to its residential, restaurants and theaters combined with a decline in offices and retail over the years. The hope was that adding more residential would attract more retail and amenities and therefore encourage more offices. But no one foresaw the rise in e-commerce and remote working. Perhaps there's another trend around the corner that we can't see that will help or hurt downtown and especially Playhouse Square.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
Yes, it is a suggestion by a significant stakeholder into the FRA's long-distance study. The deadline for submitting input was last week. For this come about, the first thing is to get expressions of support for this in the form of mayoral letters, city council resolutions, county commissioner/board resolutions, chambers of commerce board endorsements, etc. The next step is for a service development plan (cost: probably a few million$). The following step is for preliminary engineering/environmental clearances (cost: perhaps million$ more). The step after that is secure funding for capital construction for stations, track, signals, etc. and train equipment necessary to implement the recommendations from the planning process.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
This was just posted by the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission.... note they are recommending restoration of the New York-Kansas City National Limited, which would give Columbus and Dayton an East-West route. Since much of the route between Dayton and Indianapolis has been gone for 40 years, I'm not sure what route they're suggesting. One possibility might be to route it via Hamilton via a new track connection. They are also calling for daily service on the Chicago - Cincinnati - Washington DC - New York City Cardinal route, additional service on the Lake Shore Limited route between Chicago - Toledo - Cleveland - Buffalo - Albany - New York City corridor as well as new east-west service via Detroit and Cleveland. The last one might be the cheapest new long-distance to offer. It could be done with only the added train-miles between Detroit and Buffalo with through cars operating on existing, state-supported Wolverine and Empire corridor trains. Link to their release on long distance corridors they are recommending to the FRA... https://miprc.org/News/MIPRC-News/miprc-member-state-dots-file-comments-on-fras-long-distance-service-study

Midtown developments accelerate By Ken Prendergast / August 29, 2023 Long considered as the affordable and accessible place to live between downtown and University Circle, the Midtown neighborhood of Cleveland is starting to take off. Multiple development projects are under way or planned in this area, midway between two of Ohio’s largest employment hubs — the city’s central business district and its eds-and-meds hub. And a project that many consider to be the key to unlocking further development in Midtown is finally moving forward. MORE: https://neo-trans.blog/2023/08/29/midtown-developments-accelerate/

Photos don't do it justice. It is quite a presence in that area. I hope the next phase across the street nearer to the RTA station is even larger. And at some point, CWRU is going to acquire the last few houses it doesn't already own along Fairchild and Glenwood right next to the station and add more density.

US Economy: News & Discussion
China’s Lehman moment is today with Evergrande down 90%. If that follows the 2008 contagion path, markets collapse within 3-4 weeks. Liquidity will flee China for safe haven assets, U.S and Non U.S. Some markets and stocks will be hurt or helped. If China collapses it is certainly not bullish for $AAPL or $TSLA, and very bearish for $LVS which has 90% of it’s properties in Macao now. https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/china-evergrande-economy-penny-stock-debt-real-estate-property-developer-2023-8
