  1. That's probably going to be the new location of the Shoreway boulevard.
  2. Awesome photo @urbanmyth!
  3. The difference is that, with the Gateway project, Amtrak and commuter services already exist and carry hundreds of thousands of people per day. It and the existing Northeast economy it supports will be damaged if the Gateway project isn't built. The South of the Lake Bypass is an opportunity that we will be better off if we build it but very little is going to be destroyed if we don't. If we start running 200-plus trains a day with 150,000 daily riders and reshape/grow our economy around this, then the SOTLB will equal the Gateway project in importance.

You mess with the bull, you get the horns -- and launched!
  5. West 73rd Apartments OK’d By Ken Prendergast / July 7, 2023 After more than a year of debate, the design-review committee of City Planning Commission gave its final approval of a proposed apartment complex at 1321-1357 W. 73rd St. in Cleveland’s Gordon Square neighborhood. The unanimous vote sets the stage for the developer Joel Zagelbaum of Brooklyn, NY to apply for building permits to start construction. 6. I've asked NW Neighborhoods' interim director. I'll post any answer I hear.
  7. @gildone Clarification -- the Illinois DOT RFP for Chicago-St. Louis was a long time ago. I think it was in 2005 when the state funded the doubling of its sponsored passenger rail services statewide.
  8. GUEST Business leader: An end to majority rule in Ohio? Issue 1 an unprecedented affront to democracy 'We are deeply troubled by this unprecedented affront to our democracy and will be voting "no" on Issue 1 in August, and encouraging everyone we know to vote "no,"' Richard A. 9. That certainly fills in a gap in the skyline.
  10. @Neal435CLE how about some photos from "inside" the Medley Apartments? If you prefer, post them to via private message and I'll put them in an article. 🙂
  11. To my understanding they don't involve very many permanent employees.
  12. @marty15 I wrote about this two years and wondered if it ever got done. Perhaps this is finally it.... https://neo-trans.blog/2021/07/31/higbees-public-square-facade-to-add-outdoor-gambling/
  13. Not surprising considering that all were built with Cold-Formed Steel Framing (CFSF) flooring systems and load-bearing walls above their 2-3 story reinforced concrete podiums.
  14. No. I haven't seen anything lately. But I'll check again in the morning. I've sent a couple of emails to the developer to find out when they will start demolition but have received no reply. Usually they respond when they have news to share and don't when they don't.
  15. A crane without a crew cab atop it? Dare we call this one "Ichabod Crane"?
  16. From Ed Gallek at Fox 8: Latest report shows 21 more people left the Cleveland Police Dept in June—only 5 retired…all others simply resigned

    This is funny. And sad.
  18. I heard Intel and Lorain County government were interested in getting rid of the Lorain County Airport for the chip factory that's heading to New Albany. But supposedly the FAA killed it. Gotta combine, clear and clean a lot of parcels for these big developments especially in developed areas like NE Ohio. Thankfully the state budget has an additional $350 million for its Brownfield Remediation Program and Cleveland has created a $50 million site-readiness fund that it wants to increase to $100 million.

Saw this great diagram on LinkedIn from Strong Towns https://www.strongtowns.org/ and Urban3 https://www.urbanthree.com/
  20. To clarify, the building isn't nearly 200 years old. The company is. The building is 136 years old.
  21. I was going to say the 1.4 million square foot Centennial would be larger. But only about 600,000 square feet of it will be residential. So depending on what Bedrock has planned for Landmark, you may be right.

  23. Busily working on a complex article about TOD. Anyhow, here it is.... Bedrock buys SHW HQ, R&D for $48.5 million By Ken Prendergast / July 5, 2023 Newly available public records show that Bedrock Real Estate of Detroit paid $48.5 million total for Sherwin-Williams’ soon-to-be-vacated Landmark Building and John Breen Technology Center, both in downtown Cleveland. Although the sale of those properties closed last week, their sale amounts weren’t public available until today. The Landmark Building is currently Sherwin-Williams’ global headquarters and the Breen Technology Center is the global coatings giant’s primary research and development (R&D) facility for another year or so. 25. A couple of previously unseen views of the proposed new research center that's going to be on Planning Commission's docket this Friday (per the latest agenda revision) plus a site plan.
