From what I understand, the developer wants to incorporate the building. Plus, it's a listed on the National Register of Historic Places so the developer can get historic tax credits to fix it up/convert it to new uses. Yes, it has a climate-controlled waiting room, restrooms and sheltered boarding areas. Megabus used to stop there. I asked GCRTA if Greyhound talked to them about STJ but I got no response. Or the lack of food, bathrooms, shelter, etc. will cause passengers to leave garbage strewn around, relieve themselves in the bushes, or wander off in search of food. What a contrast to what the current station could soon become.- Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field

Greyhound station may leave downtown By Ken Prendergast / May 11, 2023 Cleveland may soon join the list of medium- and large-sized cities whose central business districts have lost their Greyhound bus stations to less-accessible locations. And that’s of concern to low-income travelers, college students and others trying to save money or avoid the stress of driving while traveling to and from Cleveland’s station at 1465 Chester Ave., downtown. There are many high-frequency bus routes in suburban Canada, offering a bus every 5-10 minutes on main thoroughfares and 15-30 minutes into residential-only subdivisions like what you would see in Rocky River, Parma or Beachwood.- Akron: Downtown: Development and News

@js_bsg To clarify, I was referencing the building to be demolished as not an architectural gem. The Welleon is a terrific project and I hope to see more like it along Detroit.- Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News

So 5416 Detroit is to be demolished for a surface parking lot the new Waverly & Oak building. I often take the Shoreway at rush hour. It is seldom like that except when there's a crash.- Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
No, because the city hasn't selected a basic design concept (depending on if the Shoreway stays as a highway or turned into a boulevard and if so, where would the boulevard be aligned). Once the locally preferred alternative is selected following the ongoing public input sessions, ONLY THEN will detailed design be undertaken. That's why it's so important to see the presentation being given at these public sessions (like the one this afternoon) and give your input there. I have a copy of the presentation. I will post a link to it here. Here's one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fhkzjmt15bazpcn/23_0504_Comm Eng Mtg 1_draft.pdf?dl=0 But I think this one really shows the range of potential design alternatives: https://neo-trans.blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/North-Coast-Connector-presentation_Comm-Eng-Mtg-2-options.pdf- Cleveland: Retail News

Addressing the shortage of for-sale housing By Ken Prendergast / May 9, 2023 Despite the rise in interest rates, there continues to be strong demand for new housing in Greater Cleveland, especially in hot sub-markets like where Cleveland’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood meets Ohio City. In areas like that, homes sell for about 2 percent above the list price and get an accepted offer within nine days of going on the market, according to real estate analytics form Norada Real Estate Investments of California. The public expenditure isn't just for one land use. It's to make accessible by a variety of modes of transportation (walking, biking, transit, car, train, bus) an otherwise harsh and largely unwalkable landscape and to promote economic development. That's the purpose and need as stated in this federally compliant project development process. You all really need to go to these public involvement meetings. The next one is this afternoon: https://clevelandnorthcoast.com/get-involved/ The planners involved noted that we used to have a nice lakefront in the 1800s and even into the early 1900s. We went from this.... To this .... the Great Wall of Cleveland!- Cleveland: Bars / Nightlife News
I suppose this could go here. Lady Caroline replaces the Nautica Queen which I rode for the first time for my 27th birthday party in 1994.- Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Actual design work hasn't been done yet. Only concepts for public input meetings to determine what to do with the Shoreway. some of the concepts have the landbridge continuing at a descending level all the way from the north end of the mall and landing at ground level by the water's edge. But not all do, likely because of the cost. But if does go all the way to the water's edge, I suspect the whole thing will be filled with parking (including to replace or incorporate the Science Center garage). If so, there's ways of making parking garages look like something else from the sides.- Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
As I said in the lakefront thread, where do you want the stadium parking to be? Hidden in a land bridge and associated structures or at the water's edge where the surface lot will sit empty for 350+ days per year? A lakefront is a valuable resource which people would be willing to live near so they can see it and enjoy it. But it is being wasted as a parking lots which are seldom used. Even when the Browns negotiate a renewed stadium lease, I guarantee you that they are going to want to make sure the city provides X number of parking spaces within Y distance of the stadium. Sure, there are other parking craters that need to be filled in the urban core. None are more embarrassing and unsightly or as valuable as those by the water's edge, IMHO. - Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
