Staff reductions to hit Sherwin-Williams HQ By Ken Prendergast / February 28, 2025 With Sherwin-Williams due to move into its new headquarters tower in Downtown Cleveland later this year, there may be fewer managers making that move. Shaker Square demolition to avail housing site By Ken Prendergast / February 28, 2025 Although the demolition of an historic retail strip in Cleveland’s Shaker Square district was on Landmarks Commission’s docket, much of the panel’s discussion focused on what might follow the demolition. Ultimately, the commission unanimously approved razing the two-structured Van Aken Plaza located at 2742-2782 Van Aken Blvd. for a landscaped greenspace — for now. Watterson-Lake Apartments design approved By Ken Prendergast / February 27, 2025 Efforts by city officials to repopulate Cleveland neighborhoods don’t always go smoothly when residents and community officials have gotten used to not having people, density and activity around for decades. But a mixed-use project intended to restore some of that urbanity got approved today by the Landmarks Commission in a contentious meeting. Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
Or you can make friends with people who work for Amtrak and send you text messages every time a Cleveland train runs hours late. Or they share goofy news from elsewhere in the system, like drunk people getting evicted from the train by some podunk sheriff in the middle of nowhere. Or a train hitting a cow and delaying the train for hours. Or a train unable to leave Chicago because they can’t find three locomotives that work properly.

That's obscene. Twenty years ago, a new electric locomotive could be had for 1/4th or less of that amount. I remember pricing out entire five-car trainsets (with diesel locomotives) for $15 million. With electrics the entire set would still be less than $20 million.
