Seriously? It takes at least two years to build a tower. The formal groundbreaking was in Dec. 2021 with work starting in Q1 2022.

Lakewood: Development and News
I think many of you will not like the "temporary" use Lakewood site prepped for development By Ken Prendergast / February 3, 2023 Fences went up yesterday at Lakewood’s East End around a former National Tire & Battery (NTB) store and its parking lot at the southwest corner of Detroit and Coutant avenues. In the coming days, the NTB store will come down while hydraulic lifts in the building’s vehicle repair shop will be removed and possibly some of the soil surrounding the lifts, too. Those are just some of the activities that will prepare the site for the next phase of the Studio West 117 development. MORE https://neo-trans.blog/2023/02/03/lakewood-site-prepped-for-development/

Downtown’s next high-rise to turn residential By Ken Prendergast / February 2, 2023 Downtown Cleveland’s next office-to-residential conversion project appears to be in the works. But this one might not be a total changeover to a new use. Ohio Savings Plaza, with more than a half-million square feet divided among two buildings has something big going for it — it’s half-filled with office tenants. Or, half-empty if you’re a pessimist. Cleveland: Random Development and News
Some folks I spoke with said that mercury got into the wood floors which may have absorbed it and kept it from getting into the soil. But if that's the case, why not just replace the floors? I think it's just usual Fortune 500 slash and burn. Tear everything down, sell it and start all over.

I think GE is afraid of getting sued. They said the same thing with regards to their lighting plant demo on East 152nd. But I don't understand how this is different from Nela Park, which had similar manufacturing done as the former Brush Electric plant. And Nela has a new owner plus some new uses. https://neo-trans.blog/2022/09/13/ge-may-demolish-historic-factory-incubator-in-cleveland/

The owner, Gaslamp Capital, has a brownfield grant to clear and clean the former National Tire & Battery property, built as a car dealership and service garage going back to the 1940s. The developer would like to build a multi-story apartment building here.- Cleveland: Random Visualizations & Massings
In the 1920s/30s, it was supposed to look like the rest of the Landmark Building, which is actually four buildings (Midland, Guildhall, Republic and Medical Arts). They never built the fifth.- Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
The properties on the Northwest corner of West 117th and Madison have been targeted numerous times by developers seeking to buy their land. They want way too much money for their properties and it scared off developers. Ditto for the self-storage place on the south side of the tracks. That place is a cash machine and the owner, someone who lives in Florida, has rebuffed numerous offers to buy it. If RTA and each participating municipality approached in a systematic way the development of all developable properties around rapid stations for TOD, to achieve broad public benefit goals like addressing climate change, jobs access and social equity, they could have a legal mandate to acquire properties by eminent domain from owners who are unwilling or unable to join in the civic effort to pursue TOD and its benefits. Everyone deserves a fair price for their property but standing in the way of achieving public benefits and addressing overarching problems is not acceptable.- Is This How The End Begins?
I realized the inventors say, while it’s totally possible for this to become a T1000 someday, that’s not what they made it for, so everything’s fine. Why you tripping? https://mashable.com/video/metal-liquid-shapeshifting-robot- Cleveland: East Side Neighborhood Development
A good article that may get overlooked by it being posted only in the transportation section....- Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
That's a very good article. Lots of information and quotes from lots of people.- US Economy: News & Discussion
The article also notes that while layoffs have increased somewhat since the spring of 2022, that increase has had a much smaller impact on the US labor market than the large cutback in hiring over the same time period... Job openings surge to 5-month high By Cate Chapman, Editor at LinkedIn News Updated 14 hours ago Job openings shot to a five-month high at the end of last year, the Labor Department reported Wednesday, confounding expectations of slower growth just ahead of an interest-rate decision by the Federal Reserve. There were just over 11 million available positions in December, compared to 10.4 million in the prior month. That's equivalent to about 1.9 openings for every job seeker, close to the all-time high and up from 1.7 in November. The ongoing tightness in the labor market contrasts with growing signs of slowing inflation, including cooler wage growth during the fourth quarter. Companies hired at a slower rate in January, according to ADP data. Private firms added 106,000 employees, down from an upwardly revised 253,000 in December. Wages rose 7.3% year-on-year in January, the same rate as December, ADP reports; workers who switched jobs saw a median increase of 15.4%. I bugged them for a quote from the director, and two weeks later they finally gave me one. So here's an article with a little more information on why the theater is being sold...... Why the LaSalle Theater is for sale By Ken Prendergast / January 31, 2023 Earlier this month, NEOtrans broke the story that a Collinwood landmark, the LaSalle Theater, 823 E. 185th St., had hit the market after 14 years of ownership by the Northeast Shores Development Corporation (NSDC). But with the building stabilized and the NSDC ending its service to the Cleveland neighborhood, officials from the community development corporation said it was time to sell. I like this live cam view too. It's from the 3-mile water intake crib and it tends to be a brighter view. Here you can you see how the SHW tower will add to this view, as the crane is completely unobstructed. From this view, one can imagine how the SHW tower will look here, rising to almost as tall as 200 Public Square (the 3rd tallest tower).- Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Some at RTA were very interested in TOD but many others believed the city was dying and the transit agency was just a victim of it and couldn't play any role to help stop it, if not reverse it. I'm hopeful this RTA TOD plan will propose developments (and incentives) for station parking lots. - Lakewood: Development and News
