Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
And it will look even more different in a few months as the Silverhills development puts buildings between NRP's The Peninsula above and the river's edge below. Will be interesting to see how well these "step down" to the water.

Watterson-Lake development awarded financing By Ken Prendergast / June 29, 2024 Key pieces of financing were awarded this week to a significant development planned on the south side of the intersection of Detroit and Lake avenues in Cleveland’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. There, a 136-unit affordable housing project could see construction start by early next year on the site of the former Watterson-Lake Elementary School, 7407 Detroit Ave. MORE: https://neo-trans.blog/2024/06/29/watterson-lake-development-awarded-financing/

BTW, here's the reason why that graphic was created. This is the last LA-SF segment cleared and now eligible for construction... California High-speed Rail Authority OKs $22.6B Palmdale-Burbank Segment With approval of the Palmdale-Burbank segment, the California High-speed Rail Authority has completed environmental clearance for 463 line miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles. https://www.enr.com/articles/58898-california-high-speed-rail-authority-oks-226b-palmdale-burbank-segment

You're right! The person who posted it said it was from the early 60s and I didn't look at it so closely.

Look at how much back-n-forth is happening with the Chicago Bears stadium. "If it's Tuesday, it must be Arlington Heights."

Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
For those who say Cleveland hasn't changed much, this is an example of how much it has changed just in my lifetime. This is Downtown Cleveland, Scranton Peninsula, the Cuyahoga River and the Erie Railroad seen in the 1960s compared with June 2024. Photos were taken from near the intersection of Carter and Columbus roads, looking northward.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
My recollection is that the Akron-Cuyahoga Falls, next to and parallel with CSX, is owned by Akron Metro. But this section of the former Pennsylvania Railroad was abandoned first with track removed and a new switch installed connecting the remaining Hudson-Cuyahoga Falls track to CSX.

Need a train to have a station... We would have had one if not for the $16 million expansion project from the 1960s getting squashed.

Haslam’s mini-downtown – at Brook Park or Burke? By Ken Prendergast / June 28, 2024 The Haslam Sports Group plans more than a billion dollars worth of new development surrounding their proposed new domed stadium. But is that necessarily going to be in the Cleveland suburb of Brook Park? With an emerging effort by city officials to close and redevelop Burke Lakefront Airport, look for that site to be offered up as a location for the stadium and supportive development. Rumors are circulating that both could happen. MORE: https://neo-trans.blog/2024/06/28/haslams-mini-downtown-at-brook-park-or-burke/

Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
And with the stagnation in the housing/mortgage market plus the growth of AI, I dont feel good about Rocket Mortgage either. I hear Cross Country Mortgage is already laying off some people due to AI. The only reason why Rocket Mortgage won't be laying off people here any time soon is because they accepted a city grant to grown and sustain an employment level here. They're cutting jobs elsewhere but when the term of that grant expires, look for it to happen here too unless the mortgages market makes an unexpected turn around.

Now HERE's a list...... Ohio Capital Budget’s Cuyahoga County projects By Ken Prendergast / June 27, 2024 Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said he is eager to sign the largest capital budget in the state’s history. This $4.2 billion goody bag of Senators’ and Representatives’ gifts to their constituents was passed yesterday, resulting from a strong economy and robust tax revenues that fed a record budget surplus. In that goody bag are things ranging in size from $2,250 for the Solon Innovation Center to $20 million for Downtown Cleveland’s North Coast Connector land bridge. I reach out to them every time I write a new article and they don't respond anymore. Their executives have held meetings with employees and denied there is an HQ2 in the works.

Last winter, there was a lot of chatter from sources that a second tower was under serious consideration and that Valspar ofice and research staff would be moved here. The employment data and growth trends of that data backed it up. And then things went dead quiet. So, you start looking at potential secondary indicators like the SHW HQ parking plan which doesn't include the company-owned parking lots along West 6th/St. Clair. It's not a slam-dunk indicator so I'm keeping my eyes open in case there are others.
