  1. Where can I donate! (Just trying to show enthusiasm, I know the answeris probably buried a few pages back in this thread. I can't wait to catch a movie there. Glad to hear the Grand Opening went well)

Feeling good? No. Feeling better than the last 3 week? Yes Losses I can take, Cleveland fans are conditioned to take heartbreaking last second losses. I have a big callus on my heart that has built up over the years to handle that. The public humiliation of the end of last year and the first 3 games of this year really were sticking me in a new uniquely painful spot.

A loss is a loss... But I do feel a little better, this season is over but at least I have hope that we wonm't be starting over again next year, which from the first 3 weeks I thought we would be.

  6. Replace White with Irish, Italian, German, etc. and I don't think that people would bat an eye. Even the majority can be subdivided into minority groups. I think it would have to do with the perception that events exists that are all inclusive and if you try to create an event to exclude the minority then it is bigoted, etc, however if you create an event to exclude the majority (meaning here not of whatever minority is sponsoring the event) that's OK. I guess another way to put it is it that most people find it is OK to celebrate what you are Gay, Christain, Irish, etc.Whatever makes you unique.Along those same lines is not OK to celebrate what you are not, which is inferred by the "White Games" meaning not Black, Hispanic, etc. I gave explaining this rational a shot. Let the flames begin. I am ready. :shoot:
  7. if you want that Burrito you need to walk to the counter like everyone else.... :-D

Sheeple? I love that! Yes we play things up a bit too much and Rusty you are right, it really is just splitting hairs, but it is in good fun. I just wonder how long until the outlet mall model takes the big retail dirt nap too.
  9. Is that the first closing in Steelyards? I was thinking to myself as I drove by the otherday that it looked like everything was still open two years later even with the current state of the economy.
  10. I guess I should be the one to answer that. Despite being one of the oldest games known to man and easiest to both pick up and play while drinking, Bocce is one of the games that was a staple at the original Neon's. Ours is a celebration, not of German history, but Over the Rhine history and we are attempting to bring back some, not all, of the original character of the space. Neon's is a part of that rich OTR bar history and although recent, historically significant none the less. The reason Bocce was there to begin with is that 1) it is different than what most bars are even able to offer due to space requirements 2) it is lawn bowling and an interactive piece in a garden which the outdoor space at Neon's was designed to be. 3)and most important, it gives people a reason to show up Mon-Thurs for leagues and who knows, perhaps have a drink or two. Thanks. I was just wondering because the outdoor courtyard/ pavilion is obviously a German influence but the Bocce courts threw me for a loop. Don't get me wrong I think the combination is pure genius like chocolate and peanut butter together. I am from Youngstown and a lot of older clubs/bars have bocce courts but they are usually in the basement or separated from the main bar/dining area. Although I think that the most obvious reason to play is that a Bocce ball is the perfect counter weight to a full beer.
  11. I am not all that familiar with Cincy, but what gives with Bocce courts at the beer gardens? I know that the one right byUC campus has them too. Just wondering. Cincy is not know for Italians.

Just went to Einstein Brothers to get my morning cup of Tribeca Blend, and they switched it to some sort of something called Autum Blend. I am not happy. Tribeca was nice and dark, a little bit smoky. This is OK but not worth the two block walk. The state of coffee is pretty poor right now in Downtown Akron. Angel Falls is opening a store in my building though, in the old Susan's spot. Hopefully that will help.
  13. Good one Rn'R'r. This great news for Cleveland. Things are starting to get rolling again around here again. And the fact that we beat out Dc and Boston make it all the sweeter. Kudos to all of those who worked hard to get this.
  14. Great pics
  15. Just my input from what I am seeing on the ground in the Lakewood, West Park area. There are not nearly as many houses for sale as a year ago, probably a lot of people sitting on the sidelines until this shakes out. In fact I would say it could be below the normal level of houses for sale. The properties that are coming up are moving fast. My neighbors sold their house in less than 3 weeks, My carpool partner has an acquaintance that sold his in less than 5 days. I am assuming that a fast sale means a sale price pretty close to asking price. I know the expiring 8 grand tax credit is a big reason these properties are moving (at a good price too) but I am wondering if the shortness of supply is affecting it too. We'll have to see what happens after the tax credit expires.
  16. For godsakes the whole power house complex is surrounded by a fence!

Don't worry I will waste my Sunday afternoons and give you updates on how watching the games feels. Barring a miracle I would expect it to be pretty bad.
  19. It was nice to see smoke coming out of the stacks on the way into work this morning. It was a little creepy when that giant plant was sitting there inactive.
  20. Good question. I still think that the backside of tower city would be in the running. I wouldn't want it in the warehouse district parking lots or the west bank.

EC, I know how passionate you are about rivers and waterways but I think the point would be to take a negative and turn it into a positive. The Phoenix rising from the ashes. It would be a nice metaphor for the push for Cleveland as a green and sustainable city. Fire is a very powerful symbol of creation and destruction. This celebration would represent a rebirth for the city. And much like the phoenix it would be representative of the second coming of Cleveland after it's first glory as an industrial powerhouse. Plus imagine the NYT coverage!

Whoa, that Waterfire program is cool. I hadn't even thought about a permanent installation.

Interesting take W. 28th. Maybe we could have the Burning River festival climax with the burning of the river (or atleast setting some barges on fire). I am imaging something like Burning Man but a lot less freaky. Let me clarify the barges on fire. I am imagining a giant pyrotechnics display with flames shooting 75 ft in the air. I can't imagine how you could safely set the river on fire, from an environmental and personal safety view. Edit: Burning River Roller Girls Definitely sounds more badass than Forest City Roller Girls

You are probably right. I don't know if it was the flu or not but I was sick as a dog starting on Christmas eve morning on 2005 (the day of the horrible Browns-Steelers game). That was not fun.

I might be taking a little liberty with that, note the smiley but when I am sick it is the only time that i get to do nothing. Karma is going to bite in the rear for saying that anyway. I will probably get the swine flue and something else at the same time...
