THE FLU
but it's younger people--teens, 20's, etc. who are most suseptible to the swine flu! I am 31 but not planning on the flu shot. While I know not everbody has paid sick time I welcome the time off :) I guess I need to read up on the swine flu, I saw something (Discovery Channel?) on the 1918 Flu strain that one of the reasons it was so deadly was a healthy immune reaction basically caused severe pneumonia and people basically were drowning.

NY Times hearts Cleveland... again
Me likes! Now what about the people from Cleveland and still live in the region, those are the worst? On a semi-related note NPR had a love letter to the Pittsburgh "Renaissance" this morning because of the G20 meeting tomorrow. (sigh) Someday...

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
Looks about the same condition as the rest of the building. I guess that is a good thing. I am digging the columns and the keystones over the windows. Thanks Mayor!

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
"Route 6 Cafe" in the old Niko's space on Detroit in Lakewood appeared to have their soft opening this weekend. Looks nice inside. I will try to stop in one night and report back.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Funny you mention the 86' season.... Below is an e-mail I wrote yesterday... "I think that this 10 year anniversary is a big deal. They are dangerously close to losing the fans for good. There is an entire generation of Browns fans who now have no memory of the browns as a winning team. Hell I am 31 and my memories are that of an 8 year old watching the 86 playoffs.I know they were the playoffs up until 91 or so, but I don't remember those teams very well. The older fans are pretty much disgusted. I know I am. The NFL is set up for parity. There is no reason one team should be bad for so long."

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Even more depressing is the fact the 3 most winnable games, besides Detroit are the last three of the season. It's going to be a long year. Unless this thing turns around I predict blacked out games next year.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Oops my bad, no more tinfoil hats (unless we are talking about the Browns) monday morning brain fart. On topic, I was talking to somebody who does commercial construction at a party this weekend and he confirmed that Wolstein is going fullsteam on at least the office tower. That was good to hear. He hadn't heard anything else on the loneger term mixed-use components.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Which make your glasses brown colored thanks to three stabbings and two drownings. There were the other millions of revelers of the course of the years who lived to see another day after a night of partying. I think the truth lies somewhere in between--but wish the city would have focused on cleaning up and improving what was there. The natural spot for a casino would have been in the midst of all that. Had we done so, I think business travellers would have started to look to Cleveland as a convention destination. The business owners who ran the bars in the flats were just as responsible for what happened down there as the city, cops and patrons. It didn't evolve. Was there any kind of Flats owner association back in the day or did they all pretty much do what they wanted?

Cleveland Browns Discussion
EC, you hit the nail on the head. What is most depressing is that even with a new coach, QB, GM they still look exactly the same. Blah! I didn't have enough beer in the house to deal with that game.... Edit: Never mind the season that our draft passovers Sanchez and Mantaluga appear to be having.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Beachfront bar anyone? :-D :-D It would have great sunsets... I am happy that this is moving forward I had visions of staring at the scarred landscpe and that giant hole already dug for the office tower foundation for 10 years, the turn around is promising. I look forward to seeing some final renderings. Would the final building exterior design have to be approved before they start construction?

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
As much as we would wish this, it's still a casino...where a majority of the patrons will not want to leave once they get there. As we all know, casino's are designed to make you lose track of time. Food and drinks provided, entertainment, no windows, no cell phone service in many cases... This casino will have restaurants, bars, etc...but I am with everyone else in wishing what is put in is as minimal as possible, with the aid of city intervention or guidelines. Well put MH. I am for the location behind TC with street level access and who would really miss TC Amphitheater. It's a tent in a parking lot.

Lakewood: Faerber/Morse House
Thinking about making an offer Mayday or looking to see if anybody on UO was interested? Anybody have any friends or family that are moving back to Cleveland after living in the DC, Boston or NYC areas that are looking for a screaming deal?

Ohio: GM, Ford, and Chrysler News & Info
I used to work at that plant as a supplier rep, although I left before it closed. It was a dead man walking for a long time. It was half empty and after they closed the Thunderbird line in the 90's they were left producing only the E-series van which is a 20 year old design. It was a wierd setup with the bodyshop and paint shop in Avon lake. They used to ship the van bodies 7 at a time in special enclosed trailers, which was one of the reasons that they had the turnpike exit put on Baumhart Rd.
